Jidou Hanbaiki ni Umarekawatta Ore wa Meikyuu wo Samayou

A man with a passion for vending machines awakens to realize that he has not only died, but he has also been reborn as one of his beloved machines! Although he is a modern appliance in a fantasy world, he requires money in order to keep functioning. He is stuck in one location until a young girl named Lammis stumbles upon him. Amazed by the drinks and food he sells, Lammis uses her "Blessing of Might" to lift him with ease and take him back to the village of Clearflow Lake. There, she officially dubs him Boxxo.

Despite his inability to converse with the villagers, Boxxo becomes an essential part of the community. His goods provide nourishment, and, as he gains new abilities and products, he becomes a staple of daily life. Nobody is as loyal to Boxxo as his first and best customer, Lammis. The more time he spends with her, the more he tries to help her elevate her skills as a young hunter.

Never in my wildest dream did I expect to like an anime titled "Reincarnated as a Vending Machine", but here we are! Hahaha

I actually can't believe they put in a decent amount work in this anime. Good voice actors, good songs, good animation.

I love how unique the premise with Boxxo not being able to speak normally. I like the problems, misunderstandings, and learnings they encountered early on.

But of course, in due time, Boxxo just became the usual OP MC but I still like the creativity.

Also love the feel-good vibes. Great characters too. Pretty sure I'll be watching season 2.

Mixed Feelings

Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon – Another Isekai Anime! 😅

I just started watching this anime today, and I’ve already completed 6 episodes. The main reason I picked it up was the bizarre yet unique concept—being reborn as a vending machine! I was really curious to see how they would execute such an idea. At first, I couldn’t even imagine how a machine that can’t even move could be part of an adventure anime! But the storytelling takes an interesting approach, making it somewhat engaging.

But don’t take this as high praise—it's no masterpiece 😅. The story mostly revolves around Boxxo (the ... vending machine MC) and Lammis (his companion). The vending machine can change types as needed—sometimes a food vending machine, sometimes a book vending machine, and more. The concept is definitely unique, but the execution doesn’t feel very impactful.

Overall, I’d rate it 6/10. It’s different, but not something I’d be super excited about. Watch it if you want to try something new, otherwise, you can skip it.

UPDATE 4 Nov 2025: The second season is slightly better. But with how I disliked Season 1, I'm not sure if most people are willing to put up with Season 1 just to see it get better in the second season.

The first season of Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon is a bit popular, which is why it has been renewed for a second season for Summer 2025. How does it fare compared to other isekai?


§ Overview
...
A certain man dies due to being hit by a vending machine. Upon waking up, he sees himself as a vending machine that has to have some points, which he earns through anyone purchasing from him, to survive.

He soon meets the girl Lammis, who calls him Boxxo, and his adventures soon begin.


§ Notes

1. Let's talk about the studios and the staff.

⚫ This is a joint production by Studio Gokumi and AXsiZ. This is not their first collaboration, as they also worked together in Seiren, as well as in " I'm Getting Married to a Girl I Hate in My Class.

⚫ The director is Akitaya Noriaki, who is also the director for Summer 2025's 'The Shy Hero and the Assassin Princesses.' He has directed a number of anime, but I can't comment on them as I haven't seen them.

⚫ It has several staff members in the animation department and storyboarding, but this anime's visuals don't impress me. It's pretty much serviceable.

⚫ As for the character design, which was done by the illustrator Yuuki Hagure in the source material and Yamauchi Naoki in the anime, who is also the chief animation director, the character design for Boxxo is great. It's ordinary for the rest of the other characters.


2. Let's talk about the rest.

⚫ Just as the character designs are mostly so-so, the characters are mostly so-so too. Perhaps the vending machine whose name is Hakkon and translated as Boxxo (from the Japanese word hako, meaning box) isn't bad. Lammis looks like the typical blonde gyaru but has a unique ability. Hulemy seems to be the cute but so far unremarkable engineer.

I find it hard to be invested in the characters.

⚫ Hakkon is somewhat an okay protagonist, but he is not somebody you can root for, not even in a self-insert manner. His abilities seem arbitrary and appear more convenient for dealing with the episode's challenges. If you compare this to how Naofumi unlocks certain skills in The Rising of the Shield Hero, this vending machine isekai looks lame in comparison.

⚫ Most won't notice this, but what irks me with this isekai is how the gold and silver coins inserted into Hakkon are gone. Ceteris paribus, assuming no gold, silver, and brass are mined and coined, this is deflationary, assuming that Hakkon were to live forever or at least so many years and not return into being a human.

Unlike in other isekai where the protagonist buys and sells stuff to earn money, Hakkon's stock of money does not flow back into general circulation, so there's that aspect of worldbuilding that is handwaved here.

⚫ As for the story arcs, they are worse than mediocre. They're just there to showcase Hakkon's abilities, but there's nothing too exciting.

⚫ The only decent episode is the final episode, where a great enemy revealed himself, and who will likely be the threat for Season 2. On its own, I won't recommend this, but Season 2 promises to be better.


§ Conclusion

This isekai is mediocre at best, but often boring or uneventful. It's nothing offensive if you can turn your brain off, so you can watch it to pass the time. But really, it's not worth it if you're looking for a wonderful story. Campfire Cooking is better.

It is only salvaged by the final episode, where it seems Season 2 might get better.


NOTA BENE: A grade of 3 out of 10 means that I did not enjoy watching this anime despite being either well-regarded or at least popular, or perhaps I happened to rank them below my 4's but above my 2's.

My enjoyment spectrum lies from 4 to 10. If I have scored an anime below 4, I actively dislike it.
