Sayounara Ryuusei, Konnichiwa Jinsei

Long ago, a human managed to defeat the oldest, most powerful dragon of them all. This dragon was so strong that even the gods feared it, but it accepted its end all alone. Then, suddenly, the dragon woke up in a new life as a guy named Dolan, living in a faraway village.

Living as a regular person now, Dolan works hard in the fields and hunts for food. Even though life in the village is simple, it's also cozy and makes him happy in ways he never felt as a dragon.

But one day, while exploring a swamp, Dolan meets Celina, a creature who's part human and part snake called a lamia. She's looking for a partner but admits she's not great at getting humans to like her because she's part snake. Despite their differences, Dolan and Cerina start to become friends. However, they face lots of challenges from outside forces.

Join them on a magical adventure as a once-mighty dragon begins a new life in a quiet corner of the world!

It's a decent anime that isn't trying to be anything more than it really is: dragon -> human and wanting to live a happy life that he didn't have before. Of course, there are mysteries of why the hero betrayed and killed him, but those aren't really the focus. The focus is Dolan, Christina, and Celina, who live a peaceful life in the village and go on adventures along the way. Super chill. Characters actually have personal goals rather than trying to f*ck the mc non stop (looking at you Arifureta). A solid 7/10 anime if you just wanted a simple, chill anime. The harem ... aspect is also very light, which gives it extra credit.

Mixed Feelings

This is a mix bag, there is a huge amount of promise and potential to it, it has so many good moments, but rather than being a stand out slow-life anime with great characters and thoughtful moments, it ends up being only slightly above average due to not being willing to commit to such a concept and instead adding in large amounts of generic action storylines and moments.

Maybe I'm the odd one here, but I don't want to plotlines that are so generic that you can easily predict what is going to happen, just because it feels it needs to be exciting and have action ... battle scenes for those who are easily bored and hate everything else in the series, it pleases no one so just stick to the slow-life themes because that is where the series is the strongest.

The slow parts and the character parts are where this series shines, the series is about loneliness, acceptance, being who you are and learning to live life to its fullest.
Dolan an ancient dragon lived a fairly lonely life, and he didn't care when his death came as he didn't care much about life at the time, he is reincarnated as a human and starts to learn what it means to live his life, he loves the village he's in and the friends he's made, he is worried however about what people will think about him should it be exposed that he has a dragon soul.
Enter Celina, a Lamia, Dolan meets her when he is away from the village and due to events becomes her friend and decides to help her move into the village and become a part of it, which is easier said than done as Lamia's are monsters and people are scared of them, so he has to get them to be willing to see her for who she is and accept her for who she is and see past her being a monster.
Celina has the most character growth, gaining confidence and strength, and even becoming aware of her own feelings. Celina steals the whole series and is hands down the best thing about it.
It was the interactions between Celina and Dolan and the bond that forms between them that kept me watching, this was what formed the heart of the series.
Christina... they could have done more with her, much of her development comes in late, and then nothing is done regards it after that.

The main parts of the story, the heart of it could have been reached without the need for including serial killers, demons from other dimensions or the very obvious, 'it was a dream' if it had just committed to the slow-life premise this could have been another Isekai Nonbiri Nouka, instead it barely stands out from the generic fantasy series that are two a penny.

This series is however enjoyable, its potential does shine through, but it would be very average if it wasn't for that and if it wasn't for Celina.

I was cautiously excited about a non-isekai fantasy.
I hoped it might have a better writing quality and more solid and meaningful plot.
But nope. It's just as bad as any generic isekai, but without the isekai aspect which I personally am a huge fan of.

What I liked:
- the design for the dragon was quite cool
- potentially interesting couple, a human who can change his body parts into those of a dragon (I wonder if down there...) and a woman with snake's lower body (I wonder if down there...). At least they can get creative in bed.

What I particularly disliked:
- the extreme genericness of everything from plot ... to characters to style of storytelling and animation and the typical MEGA boring structure of "introduction, allies, fights, end" repeated by 90% of these one-season money-grabber low-effort copy-pasted fantasy.
- MEGA boring fights
- very poor character design
- shallow personalities
- weird demons looking like mechas, and one looking like a yandere loli
- MEGA BORING "good guys vs evil demons", such a BASIC plotline just to find a generic agreeable common enemy without putting any effort in worldbuilding
- very lazy writing

Overall, among the most basic and least enjoyable fantasy I've ever watched. Still not completely bad, but very far from good.
