Anime Relations: AKB0048

I re-read my last post on the JPLT4 (now JPLT 5 as of 2014) and all i gotta say is wow... What happened? LOL. I suppose its a good thing as 教科書 have been updated since then. A lot of the content of the older books are no longer used. Like L.L. which is language learning lab. Who the fuck uses that?

As of today I've learned over 300 kanji and I'm currently in chapter 8 of 12 grammar sections in genki volume I. It takes me 1 week to complete a chapter and I think that is sufficient enough. Kanji is thrown at me left and right and it consumes alot of my energy. Sometimes I can recall the kanji and not the pronunciation itself, which is very bad and yet good. Because my brain sees the image of the kanji.

There are 12 writing and reading sections as well in this book and I kinda feel that it will be a breeze. I'm gaining a lot of confidence when I actually read and understand a manga or a letter from the book. Seldom I will forget kana. But that is mostly due to my pre Alzheimer's. Writing is becoming 2nd nature though it will never reach native level. But the japanese people will never reach my level of English proficiency, though i would like to help them get there. Regardless, it wont take me 12 weeks to finish like the grammar portions.

I felt really proud of myself at one time this past month. I understood what people were actually saying at a section of a show and I felt a great feeling of satisfaction. In addition, I realize that translators sometimes don't always translate people's words correctly. Kocchi kocchi shoudn't be run for your life. That's fkin retarded.

And that is a shame as it misinterprets the situation and maybe even ruin the scene itself.

There are other stuff i watched but didn't finish... like death note (live action) and "immoral relationship*" (it's about a sister and brother love) --thats disgusting by the way.

In the end, I logged in about 140 hours of streaming on aznv.tv . It's a pretty good for streaming videos.

* That's not the right title.

Simultaneously, I am currently downloading my 5th episode of Kimi Kiss Rogue while writing this.

Like what the title said, I'm currently going for the 4th level certificate of the japanese language proficiency test. This test require that you know around 100 kanji and 800 words, and also have 150 hours of studying.

That, even though somewhat insignificant to what is required to live in japan, requires extreme amount of work. While the grammar may not kill you, the memorization of kanji, which contains both a chinese meaning and a Japanese meaning, will. Not to mention the countless amount of words to go along with that. Currently, I've learned about 30 kanji. And with a dictionary, a book containing 2k kanji, and a textbook at hand, I strive to learn even more every night.

It's demotivating, to say the least, when you begin to see paterns in the kanji, just to realize that that method works for that set only. For example the kanji 明 means 'following' or 'light' depending on its context used. This 明日 means the following day (ashita) or tomorrow. One might think hey, I can use the first kanji for next week or next month but in reality, it uses a different kanji.来週
The first symbol is different, but it also means 'to come' or the following/next.

Regardless, this language is a very fun language to learn. I spend about 2 hours a night learning grammar and another hour on kanji. Hearing people converse in Japanese is becoming more slower than before.
