As a first episode, it was a good introduction. Not much else to say about a pilot.

I've finally started watching this and wow, the animation really is as beautiful as everyone kept saying. The meteor shower scene especially. It was absolutely gorgeous.

Also, poor Himmel… he really did not age well compared to the rest of the party. Even Heiter looked like a reasonably older version of himself, but Himmel was almost a completely different person by the time Frieren came back.

Overall, I really liked this first episode, and I’m looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here.

Pretty easy to understand for N5-N4 beginners. I have about 60% comprehension on this one.

The greatest introduction to a piece of media I have experienced. In twenty minutes you feel like you have experienced two hours. They introduce you to a great cast of characters, and get a deep sense of some of the most profound things that trouble someone throughout a life time. The way they portray the passage of time through the people around Frieren as they age confronts the viewer with one of the most unique manipulation of a trope, and left me with tears the first time I watched it.

Today I finally decided to start watching Frieren. It really feels like the perspective of someone who wished for eternal life, only to slowly watch everyone they love grow old and fade away while they remain the same. There’s something deeply painful about how quiet it is, how time just keeps moving forward without mercy.

I loved seeing Frieren's perspective as someone who's life span is much longer than most. It's interesting that this show starts after a big adventure and I loved seeing how all the adventurers aged. A lot of plot points concluded and started with this first episode. Excited to see more

Doing my third re-watch right now right before the second season is coming out, and man I don't know why but every time I rewatch the scene at Himmel's grave it makes me cry a little bit more... I remember on my first watch I didn't even shed a tear and I even thought Frieren was a bit apathetic and cold which is crazy to think about cause over time she became one of my favorite characters.

Amazing first episode!

I can't believe how good that was. It got me in the feels right off the bat, its kind of crazy. I like this beginning, seeing what happens after the hero's party journey end's is something that's pretty interesting. I feel I have an idea of the themes that this show will cover just off this episode and idk if I'm ready lol. I'm excited!

An incredibly dull first episode, with a horrible OP.

Will soldier on and see if it improves but, so far, not remotely impressed with anything about it -- incredibly basic character designs with little detail to them (pretty backgrounds, character designs are horrible), average writing, average animation. Overhyped. But that's to be expected as the minute any anime becomes popular, half the planet jumps on board just so they can say how "cool" it is and so feel included.

And don't like Frieren as a main character at all. In fact, all of them left me completely dead inside.

I watched today the first episode.
I already know Frieren by the manga, which I'm currently reading.
I think this is a beautiful story about the passage of time, the losts we have in life and the riches of the human connection.
The opening could be better, for sure, but the ending is good and much more fitting.
The OST is quite amazing, it certainly capture the essence of this series.

No idea why it's so much hyped. Didn't like the 1st ep much. I couldn't relate to any of the characters.

Will see.

Late to the party, but I must say this first episode seems very cinematic - or maybe it’s the more prominent use of music along with scenery and no talking.

Also the main points about Freiren not truely understanding how fleeting life can be - she understood it on an intellectual level, but didn’t quite *get* that innately - casually telling her party to meet again after 50 years, walking for a WEEK to a meteor shower, or not comprehending that leaving something to Himmel for half a century, would make him see that object as significant. Especially when he still agreed to take it despite the ominous evil aura.

Also, something that doesn’t come across well as a clip watcher until now, is Himmel’s narcissism. The generousity and selflessness he has yes, but I didn’t see until now, in full, Freiren’s little anecdote on how he drove the sculptor crazy choosing different poses for 18 hours, and that the statue falling into disrepair could be payment for his pride.

Heiter clung on much longer than I thought after meeting Freiren again! Sly old coot almost doing some kinda salami slicing, foot in the door, smaller favour to rope Freiren into having Fern with her.
Also very funny of him just standing in his undies, taking in the sunlight while standing in a stream!

I was intending to watch only this ep, but I went across and watched the second ep anyway, even though it’s now two in the morning!

Also love the seiyuus… Ichinose Kana having a much better reception, I’d imagine, than back during Darling in the Franxx

I couldn't understand the excitement over the first and second season of the show. But, I started re-reading the manga. After watching the first episode, it has a nostalgic vibe. Himmel passed away --- emotional. Meteor showers fifty years ago and fifty years later. The gist of the series and the episode is for Frieren to learn the value of human life. Time does not mean anything to her because fifty years or a hundred years is a trifling thing; it's just another day to her. As viewers, we're here to learn that lesson. I do understand why this series could be "boring" for viewers. Same here. That's why I have to re-read the manga before watching the first episode of the show. YOASOBI did a fantastic job on the opening and so did milet: soulful and nostalgic music.

I think this is an interesting start to an anime. Instead of a beginning, we're kind of seeing the ending. I like aloof characters like Frieren, so seeing her cry brought a tear to my eyes.
