I'm completely caught up and have read chapters at release since it began, but I don't think I've actually liked it since the end of the Danmara Arc (ch 165). This isn't meant to be a hate thread, I just want to know how other readers feel about the manga in general now that the initial shock of "What a wacky new story!" has worn off.

I definitely think reading chapters to chapter every week affects your enjoyment. I know it was like that for me when I was reading Chainsaw man. but also I don't sense an end goal with Dandadan. This feels like we're doing random crap while they're holding relationship elements just to tease us. I'll probably take a break from reading it and then get back into it when I'm ready.

There is no real direction. Being wacky and chaotic gets repetitive and monotnous fast. Once all the chapters are out or something I'll catch up again. This isn't the kind of series you need to read weekly imo, I stopped a few months ago

I posted my thoughts more thoroughly in a recent chapter thread but basically I feel like Dandadan has never had much of a direction outside of specific arcs and after 200 chapters of just being a bunch of loosely connected stuff you've got to start questioning if there's any meaning to it. Its important to be able to step back and ask yourself "What needs to happen for the good guys to win and end this series?" and have at least the elements of an answer. Nobody really knows what "Find the one piece" actually means but it is a guiding mission for One Piece. I have absolutely no clue what has to happen for Dandadan to complete its story even if Okarun gets his other ball back.

But yeah, generally, I'm not very happy with where the series is at. Its an endless parade of new characters that suck that just push events around on the plate like a little kid trying to make it look like he's been eating an unappetizing dinner. I've never found the toilet humour of Dandadan to be very amusing but lately the increase in it feels like a sad replacement for real content.

I think the only arc I've liked after Danmara was the Typhoon Human arc, purely because it was incredibly well drawn, and it was a funny idea, alongside a weird execution making it memorable (nothing special tho, but still entertaining for me). I love yokai, onryou or yurei, and Shinto mythology in general, so I was excited when an Enenra appeared, but his fight was really disappointing. After that, Momo lost her memories, making all chapters until now pretty insufferable, with boring interactions between characters (and I haven't been like that neither lately, since there are many characters now).
Agree with you about how now it doesn't have that charm at the start of having more recontextualization with the folklore and urban legends.

i love the show but yeah its quite repetitive as of now. i think it could have ended near the part before she loses her memory so we could have a nice ending for the relationship and some other stuff

I’ve been loving every chapter each release since I caught up back during Vamola’s origin story. I’ve never taken this series seriously nor have I had any expectations regarding the story. It takes me back to watching “Looney Tunes” or “Tom and Jerry” on Saturday mornings as a kid. Enjoying each chapter and what whacky shenanigans are in store for it. The fact theres any story at all is a nice little treat. Sure, it can get repetitive now and then but I’m having fun, the art is great, and the fights are cool. I see some people talking about loss of “shock value” and what not but that’s not what made the series stand out. It’s the blending of many things that make it special. One arc they’re fighting aliens, next arc is literal Jumanji, then they’re back in school chasing mannequins or fighting Mozart. It’s like opening a toy chest and slapping figures together as a kid. All the things you like (or the mangaka likes) wrapped up together. Who cares about having point to it… it’s just fun to watch unfold. That’s just my perspective on it. Everyone is different. Hope the series will reignite the spark for you! If not, then I least hope you can look back and say you had fun along the way. :)

yea, it's same for me. I lost interest in Dandadan long ago. like, I was super into DDD from ch 1 to 166 which is the Kintama Hunt Saga and where the Danmara Arc ends. then after that, the subsequent arcs are the Kozuka Knives Arc, Typhoon Human Arc, Shimane Arcz and the Current Arc. I liked the first 2 arcs even if they were meh compared to the Danmara Arc and the rest from the first Saga but ever since Momo lost her memories, i have just lost almost all my interest in DDD as a whole and no, it isn't because of the weekly schedule. I read some manga and novels that have monthly and bimonthly schedules, lol, so it's just how I feel about DDD now.

it's mostly wacky stuff with no direction now, at least that's how I feel.

I do think it got less enjoyable after that arc, yes. It feels like the author is dragging things to delay the confession as much as possible. I mean, Okarun confessed and then we got two (2) different arcs of "wacky thing happens to Momo so she can't answer". First she got tiny, now she lost her memories. The confession was chapter 159, and it's really going to drag it for 100 chapters minimum.

I don't really get it. The story doesn't have to end when they get together, it can keep going. So why stalling it so much that you remove the best dynamic in the series just so you can postpone the main event?
