Anime that exists as anime in another anime's universe

What Counts:

Lucky Star, Konata is an open fan of Haruhi Suzumiya

Genshiken has the characters watching Kujibiki Unbalance

Sailor Moon S has a boy with a Shin Chan backpack pin

What Doesn't Count:

Oreimo, the characters in that show are fans of 2 fake anime, one bright and cute, the other dark, moody and gothic
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

You aren't going to find too many examples of this because of copyright issues. Usually they change the name a little, like Precure to Prepure. The reason Konata could be an open fan of Haruhi was because Kyoani had the rights to both series.

It is unfortunate that such free advertising is rejected. I have read multiple books I otherwise wouldn't have, after hearing fictional characters profess a love of them. In America, at least, titles can't be copyrighted.

Might be a cultural thing in Japan vs the US. In America the idea that there's no such thing as bad publicity is huge, probably not the case in Japan.

I don't believe the legal rationale has anything to do with publicity. You can title your movie "One Piece" and get away with it here, provided you write an entirely original story with no connection to Oda's.

Not exactly a perfect fit to your questions, but most (if not all) characters of Kageki Shoujo!! like The Rose of Versailles with the main character (Sarasa)'s passion for Oscar being an important part of the story. The thing is, most of them care above all about the theater adaptation of the series. Still, Sarasa is an anime fan in general and we can see a poster of Oscar with the manga design in her room so I bet she also likes the anime adaptation.

This is a weird one, because KujiUn was made up for Genshiken and then they actually turned it into a proper anime.

Does Sailor V in Sailor Moon count? It only has a manga irl, but in Sailor Moon there was an anime movie about it being produced.

@Lucifrost Perhaps if "here" is the moon. You're unlikely to on Earth. Mainly because that would be a trademark infringement which must be procecuted or risk loosing the trademark.

Not if the title hasn't been trademarked. It's difficult to trademark a title.

@Lucifrost Only if it's generic - like "Limitless". The anime "One Piece" is more distinctive and has indeed been trademarked all over the place in many domains. I think you would end up in court one way or another.

Well they were referenced as games but also could be understood as anime -> Persona, Stein's Gate and Akiba's Trip in No Game No Life [Sora's original world], aswell as they used Laputa spell from Flying castle movie. It was very open that Sora and Shiro are familiar with anime, video games and even H-anime games so it shouldn't be a surprise. Also almost forgot they wanted to quote Jojo and did which was among their most wanted lines they wanted to say out loud, so they are 100% jojo fans.
Some popular donghuas are seen in My ACG Parents alongside with cosplays made for them [I've only recognised Tian Guan Cifu, Bai Yao Pu and Daily life of immortal king, but there's way more titles] - The MC is familiar with them, but her parents are donghua fans.
Bleach, DB, Naruto, YY Hakusho in Jujutsu Kaisen as Yuji referenced them - maybe not a fan but we know he watched them.
Erika Karisawa and Walker are often found with light novels so they are Sao fans, for example in Opening 2 of DRR you can see Sao's first volume, while somewhere at the beginning of the show you can see them walking with a cardboard layout of Holo from Spice and Wolf -> I don't remember if there wasn't by any chance a small conversation about their favourite light novels/anime.

In this opening in 0:52 when you pause before Kadota's face [after Erika's introduction and that buddy] you can cleary see Sao first volume Light novel, there's few more but I am not that familiar with Light Novels/Mangas. I only recognise Sao cause I've read them myself.

@Zettaiken Kadota whole gang is based on Kadokawa authors, and both Erika (she compares Saiya to Shakugan no Shana) and Walker (he poses with Spice and Wolf Holo, among others) torture methods are based in anime.

@Sasori56483 Thanks for info, It's been a long time since I watched it so I forgot any details on them [outside that little detail about Holo cardboard scene and Sao Novels] Oh and wait! Their truck had Miyuki from Irregular Highschool on the doors or somewhere.

They're both fans of everything Dengeki Bunko, which is the company or magazine publishing all these light novels including Durarara!! I remember when I watched the first episode of the show that their introduction seemed rather nonsensical in nature, but watching it again after experiencing some other works like Dokuro-chan I realized they were just speaking in Dengeki Bunko references. They were also carrying around a Holo gigantography as you said.

Wotakoi has Macross Frontier references, among some other series, that I don't remember.
Hayate no Gotoku manga often has Nagi talking about how she slept while watching some series (Ashita no Nadja, Princess tutu, ...) that the author wanted more people to go through.
Sore ga Seiyuu!, they basically go through popular anime openings, Futaba freaks out when meeting Goku's seiyuu, among other characters.
Bakuman is another easy one, because they go talking about jump works. My favorite scene is when the male characters are talking about censorship and they say there needs to be a place at the magazine for To Love Ru!
Inuyasha had people cosplaying as Munto in the school festival. But it was not Kagome, so I am not sure if it counts. https://xss.now.cc/character/9467/Munto
