In the early days when I first watched Evangelion I wasn't a fan of KawoShin but after interacting with fans of the show and listening to their points of view it gradually became a ship I can appreciate, even if it's not my favorite.

Of course, not all of fandom interaction is positive. I love Jojo's Bizarre Adventure but online I think it has one of the most annoying fanbases, though I've noticed it also depends on what their favorite parts are. For example every Vento Aureo or Stone Ocean fan I've known were chill, cool people; while Steel Ball Run fans... well, not so much.

I try to separate the anime from the fanbase as much as I can.
If I had to choose between One Piece and a girlfriend...I think I'll go with One Piece

Probably a few but not by that much tbh. There are some annoying fanbases but that is never going to fundamentally change my opinion on a certain anime. I think I'm actually more inclined to get better opinions of animes because of their fanbase (the Jujutsu Kaisen manga experience wouldn't have been half as good without the memes).

i will say the new gen fans and the weird debates make me question if solo leveling , chainsaw man , jjk arw watchable, i once interacted with a bleach guy never thought much but it did gave off impresion to watch the anime i started liking bleach more , whenever i tried watching one piece the reels come in my mind , in offline people who like one piece are quite toxic my thoughts on one piece are super negative

@thegeassgate I kind of feel you. I'm still debating with myself about reading Solo Leveling and JJK, but I must tell you that I absolutely loved Chainsaw Man. I know saying "it's not your average shounen" is a cliche at this point but Fujimoto, the guy who wrote it, has far more in common in his storytelling with psychological mangaka like Asano Inio and Shuuzou Oshimi than he does with other shounen mangaka IMO. Truly one of my favorite writers.

No, bad community does not equal bad anime. For example I avoid most of mainstream anime communities because of (riddled with misinformation, toxicity, constant fighting between each other etc.,) but when it comes to actual anime they are good to great I am having very enjoyable time with them.

@jacobPOL and only participating with the non mainstream communities that cover niche topics within anime/manga community that should not have been, and communities that cover non mainstream anime or written sources and most of these non mainstream communities are very friendly relaxed peaceful and laid back that is great to be there.

I also have that with one piece community, I love this series it is my favorite manga but the community I avoid them 99% of the time and only watching some select few content creators because the reason? riddiled with misinformation e.g one piece anime pacing, constant figthing between each other that, and toxic discussions surrounding the story.

Well, I certainly changed my view of some anime because of other people takes on it ... in the sense of "learning" some details or possible analysis that I didn't perceive by myself beforehand.
Maybe I sometimes also think less of an anime I have already (partially) disliked because I cannot understand the reasoning behind the praising words of it's fans. Therefore I'll assume I didn't miss anything important about it - so it's pretty certainly as bad as I thought instead of just probably.
But I don't think that people of the community (or it's critics) being nice/unsympethatic noticably influences my view of the anime itself.

Yes, some people will rebuke my argument aggressively if I critique about something I didn't like of an anime. Everyone's entitled to have their opinion about their favorite anime at the end of day.

Unless things get better in the sequel, my perception of that particular anime won't change.

In the past, yes. However, I stopped interacting with fanbases a few years ago and now I've reached a point where I hardly let such things affect my perception.

I haven’t done this lately but for a while I would pick a newer show to watch based solely off twitter twits Reeeing over a particular show. I’ve gone back to my usual apathy towards certain anime fandoms and just watch something because it interests me.

Ngl having to see the jeagerist infestation that was in the AOT fandom made me question a bit on how efficiently certain parts of the story were executed especially when the manga ending dropped

I already loved Re:Zero to death, but interacting with the fandom has been awesome. They all love Subaru and give him the utmost respect he deserves, unlike some other fandoms where many of them can't stop trash talking their own MC (lol).

It depends, but the Chinese fujoshi fandom of Ne Zha only makes me love Donghua even more. I liked the movie, but the fandom made it even better. Thank you, Chinese fujodanshis, you're adorable!

Nope. Every fandom’s got its fair share of 'annoying' people, but that’s not gonna change how I feel about the actual anime. The only time it really gets to me is when the fandom can’t keep their mouths shut and start spoiling stuff

I started to dislike konosuba because it's fandom are basically isekai tourists, memelords and most pretentious filth and the show is the symbol of "muh isekai fatigue"

I think the anime fan base is good, especially if they are uploading hentai on social media.

As much as I love Dungeon Meshi, I find the American fandom deeply annoying and it has, despite my best efforts, managed to devalue the work in my mind. Basically, I was a fan before it was cool, and now that it's cool it's not cool anymore.

Not really. I used to think like that when watching MHA and watching some people post cringy TikToks and sort of generalizing everyone in the fandom like that. Ofc when I eventually stopped looking at the oddballs, my perception grew more fond :)

Fandoms don't really change the anime experience for me unless some part of it makes me see the anime in a new light.
