Recently I've been on a huge IOSYS and Yousei Teikoku binge. IOSYS has a huge range of styles and are just funny songs, Yousei Teikoku do great heavier stuff which are always good at high volume.

Well, so far, I only know of:

Abingdon Boys School - they did the Darker than Black opening
and
The Pillows - they did the music in FLCL.

No other Japanese bands have really caught my attention yet. :]

Really depends on how you define "Japanese."

They're pretty good stuff, but from New York.

Edit: Just saw this was already mentioned. Oh well.

Don't mean to swerve off topic, but does anyone know the name of The Pillows' song that would play towards the end of an epsiode of FLCL, just before the credits. I'm asking because I've seen the word pop up a few times in this topic.

Thanks.

Wait, me? SamboMaster isn't a boyband....at least I don't think so, OreSkaBand is an all-girl band and Ikimono Gakari has female in its band(think she's the lead singer).....anyways I'm a dude so I don't like boybands whether they be Japanese or not....

Gauge Means Nothing.
Considering the fanbase of this band, I probably just gave away my anonymity here at myanimelist.

I'm a big emotional hardcore or "screamo" fan.
I like other Screamo bands from Japan, but gauge means nothing is probably my favorite. Oddly, Envy, the most famous screamo band out of Japan, is my least favorite screamo band out of Japan.

Other favorites inclued Nitro Mega Prayer and Nervous Light of Sunday.
(Yes, probably named after a Circle Takes the Square song)

Another Japanese favorite of mine is Intestine Baalism.
I also love Coaltar of the Deepers. Especially the song Dead by Dawn, which incorporated extreme metal very well.

Gallhammer is ok, not one of my favorite metal bands. I really like Blind my Eyes how it mixed the pure sugar of moe style Jpop with tortured blackened doom metal.

There's another song by gallhammer which I haven't listened to in a while, in which their vocals sound like Ju-On, it's very long and very ambient, that one's probably my second favorite.

As far as early punk goes, I'm a big fan of the Stalin. Moreso than other Japanese early punk bands. I can't really name a favorite, but I've listened to the song 365 quite a lot. Oh, and Romantist.

I think that's a good enough summary of my favorite (Japanese)bands for now.
I'll come back later when I think of more worth adding.

Old avatar and sig retired for now.
