This sure was something, the first 8-9 episodes it tries to manage way too many plotlines and characters at once, causing the story to come across as very diluted. From 10 onward it picks up the pace but it also drops the ball immensely, including a cheap retcon. It's one of those things where the concept is interesting but it's executed so incredibly poorly. While some may attribute this to being a visual novel adaptation and shoving that much content into one cour never goes right, this isn't the case for every single adaptation. There's absolutely been moments where the pacing could've been a lot better. However, some events seemed relatively cheap just for the sake of drama and what should've been addressed never was in favor of shoving in story elements it could've been fine without. One of those being the tonal shifts, with an example being going from something very shocking to playing happy holidays music without warning. It caused me to struggle with taking it seriously near the end. Anime link |
