@LuxuriousHeart so are you in your 20s?
@DesuMaiden Yeah. Though I fail to see the relevance here...

IIRC, Digimon Frontier and Digimon Savers.
But we're not counting "YouTube 360p in three parts", then it was Strawberry Panic.

It was Kodomo no Omocha, back in the late 90s. It was a 320p RealMedia file pixelated af.

If "watching on the Internet" means streaming, then it was Tower of Druaga: The Sword of Uruk in 2010, likely on CR.
If it means "watching any Internet-distributed pirated content," then it was Trigun in 2004. However, I watched that and others via files friends gave me on CD-R; the first show I actively used the Internet myself to obtain and watch would've been Piano: Melody of a Young Girl's Heart in 2005.

I never felt the need to watch illegal streams, whether through the "uploaded in 3 parts on YouTube" pipeline or on anime-specific bootleg streaming sites. If I couldn't obtain a show via legitimate DVD/Blu-Ray/stream or didn't feel like paying for it, files acquired by torrents/IRC/direct-download were always better quality and more reliable.

Pretty boring answer, but for variety's sake: Demon Slayer S1 on Crunchyroll, 2019-20.

I've torrented a few anime movies before that, if we're counting downloads, not just streams. And Cowboy Bebop, but didn't watch that many episodes back then.

I watched the first several episodes of Dragon Ball on YouTube. This was 2014, so it was easier to find stuff like that. Then again, the second episode was a completely different dub from the first (which 11-year-old me didn't notice somehow) which cut out a set-up that was pivotal to a punchline in the third episode, the upload of which was the newer uncensored dub. As you can imagine I was quite confused
Some of you never watched Bakugan Battle Brawlers on TeleToon in 2008 and it shows.

I think it was actually Bleach. I had been watching it on Adult Swim, but started watching it subbed on the Net back in 2010 or so. Went so far passed CN episodes, I completely spoiled myself & eventually got tired of it. LOL Moved on to Hellsing ( & Ultimate), also Hell Girl, etc.

Stumbled into Inazuma Eleven and Wakfu on the internet as a middle schooler, then in high school went looking for Sword Art Online as it aired.

It took me another two years and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood to really start wanting more anime though

@eksratu You just reminded me. Funimation or Aniplex once uploaded all of the dub/sub anime episodes of both 2003 and Brotherhood on youtube back in 2010 I think. That was a great time. I think that might have been the first time I realized Brotherhood even existed and watched it.

I think the first anime I watched was on Youtube way back in 2007. Was that a long time ago?

Higurashi no naku koro ni (2006) on Youtube. And it was English dub in all its blurry, low quality 360p(or 240p?) glory, divided into multiple parts.

But the mystery surrounding Hinamizawa was interesting that the quality didn't bother me at all.
