This manga is one of the most messed up things I have read. Starving and killing all six of your children and letting your wife die in order to be "a true samurai" really makes me think of what a stupid system feudalism is.

This manga was so twisted and mind numbingly stupid that I had to drop it.

The art is great, some stories though are not that focused or cathartic. Still, I think it's worth checking out.

Wow... so the English translation had been spotty at best until now, but for the final page of the really engaging third story, 'Taking Care of the Wife', where they needed to stick the emotional landing, this was SERIOUSLY botched.

The samurai's tragically smelly wife left a cache behind upon her death, containing the samurai's true love's head and two notes, one from the true love, and one from herself.

Fan Translation -
True Love:
If the love is genuine I pity the princess
Wife:
Two will not be served in the world

Original Japanese -
True Love:
恋実らさば
姫様悲し
Wife:
二方に仕えん
あの世にて

The first letter is completely warped, and the second is completely inverted in the TL. I am not fluent in Japanese, but obviously the TL reads completely wrong given the context. Its like they read all this malice into the two women where throughout the story you could tell it was the exact opposite.

The first one died so the samurai might move on, allowing both him and the noblewoman to maybe find some sort of happiness, and then the noblewoman, overcome with loyalty to the one person in her life who saw her as a human being, immediately self sacrificed upon his death. Coming up with 'Two will not be served in the world' is completely laughable! Obviously she killed herself so she can attend to both the man who did her right and the woman who gave up her life to give them a chance.
Maybe the severe mixup was due to dated or 'classic' Japanese verbiage, not sure. Don't shoot me for consulting AI, and feel free to correct me. But this seems like a more accurate rendering.

True Love:
If our love were ever fulfilled,
the princess would only suffer.
Wife:
In the next world,
I shall serve you both.

Really amazing story though. Deserved more attention.

It’s time to ditch the text file.
