What is the most annoying thing someone can do when discussing anime?

It's a little frustrating when people wander into a long series or a franchise with a long history, or something made with fans of the franchise or genre in mind, just to complain about things that are fairly standard to said franchise or genre. I do think people suffer a bit from a condition that renders them unable to accept that not everything is made for them, and it shows up a lot in anime and games.

I completely understand if something that was for you starts to morph into something else, but I mean things like people showing up for GQX and then complaining that a main character kills people in space combat. Even Kira Yamato kills people, it's not even a spoiler!

When something isn't for me, I don't complain, I just wander off somewhere else.

People love to throw the term "woke" as an excuse for being racist/homophobic/transphobic/sexist. They just don't want to acccept they are bad people lol. I always found so funny how some folks complained (for example) about Ellie being gay in the TLOU show and calling it woke when she was gay the entire time.

@DarkFirefly72 @Cheesyb3n Woke means forced representation and its even used by many of the people mentioned by Cheeseyb3n, its not a word limited and said by certain groups of people or gender. Women, POC, LGBT+ people, men, everyone, also use such word. It's not a something "with us vs against us" mentality, its something more complex. You know something is not ok when many people are complaining. Anime can never be woke since no author or studio was forced to make characters, for example, gay or POC since they were created without external pressure. Also anyone who claim Anime is woke don't watch Anime or they don't know what woke is.

I'm more worried about people falsely accusing others of anything ending with -phobe, pedo, incel, nazi just for not sharing a similar opinion about a show, refusing to watch a show, liking/not liking a genre, liking/not liking certain Anime, etc. Cheesyb3n also fail to mention the amount of death threats towards, for example, authors and studios for refusing make their characters trans or lesbian officially. Oda and Sunrise receive a lot of death threats for such things and still many people still think tourists don't exist, they exist and they are real. Some are less obvious than others but they are still tourists.

@ComeInReiAsuka I'm one the best references for Anime you can found here. The year I started watching Anime is not really relevant. What it matters are how many Anime I watched, if I watched all genres, my days watched and knowning a lot of Anime story along with Japan culture, etc. I did all of such things and I watched more Anime than a lot of people who started watching Anime before I was even born or when I was a kid. A lot of years in the medium are irrelevant if you don't use such years properly like I did.

Anime was always gay, etc, not sure what is the point of your comment, I was saying it was never forced (and still its not) and its the only animation media where it can show such characters (along with others) without feeling they are just there for representation and nothing more. Western media and especially Western Animation are the exact opposite of what Anime is doing since at least the mid-2010s.

And with this comment, I announce my permanent retirement from most forums. I won't be active in any forum except in clubs, episodes discussions or other Anime specific threads.

I saw someone complaining over High School DxD having fan service once, it is an ecchi anime and it is infamous for being very fan servicey yet someone would still choose to watch it and complain about it, why watch it then?

To be honest, it is not rare for a show plot to change tones later and address some of the concerns of people. So it really depends.

When people insist on liking a series even after you've told them it's shit and crap and garbage and mid and overrated af, and explained to them in detail what they should be watching instead.

This may be a controversial thing to say but, the term "tourist" seems to be based in some reality. If I think about where most of the irritation comes from, it's because of people who don't really care about the artform, still acts like they are otaku, and brings in some utter bullshit. An extreme case seems to be "Anime doesn't has to strictly Japanese". Like wtf is that even supposed to mean, you are telling me "an animation project doesn't has to be japanese in order to be called japanese animation aka anime". But if I bring that up people will call me "narrowminded purist", "gatekeeper" and whatnot.

And then there are those who can't stop bitching about sexual themes. I don't care what you think about it, can't you just ignore it and move on with your own shit. There are grown-ass adults who feel "traumatized" because they learn about the mere existence of Boku no Pico. Apparently putting "R18" on it isn't enough and they want it purged from existence.

Anime was influenced by Western animation and comics. So... Yeah... If it was strictly Japanese, it would've had another art style entirely. Series like Attack on Titan, Berserk, Vinland Saga, etc., just wouldn't exist.
