The "less than 5 favorites" item requires it to be at least 16 minutes long, whereas the one I'm talking about can be any length.@abhutrash oh god, I haven't noticed that challenge, at first I though you're saying about the one with 'less than 5 favorites' in the 3rd tier, which I've already done. So they've made an even harder one ._. Thanks, I'll either watch that or exclude this task (I haven't removed anything yet, so I have 3 additional ones in the 2nd tier). Here's where the zero favorites start: https://xss.now.cc/topanime.php?type=favorite&limit=9100 Main obstacle for me was trying to find things that are even available to watch online, which is why I went ahead and recommended Speed. Of the zero favorites, I also watched Embah, which was trash, don't do it. I can PM you a link to Speed later if you have trouble finding it. |

It seems to be more about nitpicking and researching inofficial wiki articles and treating them like gospel even if you can obviously see that the hair is 'not' just black, than just having fun with anime. When you have to spend more time arguing about silly details like this than actually watching anime, not sure it still deserves to be called Anime Challenge rather than a competition of who can navigate their way through this Kafkaesque bureaucracy attached to it. I don't want to hate but I think it's sad what this challenge turned into. Originally it was just a motivator for having some fun with anime, but now the fun has taken a backseat and the whole organisation cares WAY more about being extremely pedantic about the silliest things. Valuing wiki articles more than common sense and just generally being extremely inflexibly in every regard. The rules are more important than people having fun is the impression I get. If you're having fun but one of your entries isn't 100% defined as fitting the age or color or whatever requirements or you missed a screenshot you're doing it wrong and don't deserve to finish the challenge according to the organisers and imo it should be the other way round. At the same time challenges becoming more and more narrow so that there is less and less freedom to really choose for a lot of them. Many literally leave you only a handful of options and you'll end up having to force yourself to watch something you know you won't like or to 'cheat' with shorts or other loopholes which defeats the point imo. The current approach is encouraging watching stuff just for the sake of ticking off a list item, and ideally spending as little time as possible on it because for a lot of the items you simply won't find anything that interests you because of how specific the parameters are. I used to enjoy participating but I'm not even gonna bother this year. This has become 80% bureaucrazy and 20% having fun watching anime which is just not an acceptable ratio for something that's supposed to be casual and enjoyable. This most recent page is the perfect example. When you have to argue about haircolors and their definitions for a whole page, priorities are seriously misaligned. I expect this to become a very niche thing for dedicated pedantics in a few years if this trend continues. Just my two cents. Seeing fun and casual events ruined by bureaucrazy and an over-eager organizing team is just kinda sad to me because I find pedantic bureaucracy to be a pretty toxic thing, which is like the opposite of what a challenge like this should be about. I don't expert the organizers to really care because they've continued this trend for the past few years even against constant waves of feedback that criticize these developments. They enjoy doing it like this, so everyone else has to as well. Not pointing out some wrong things you have said of minor importance, it seems you have given this much thought. Which is good. If you feel that strong about this challenge, you are free to share your ideas to make this a better event for the community. You can share what you think is a good way to run this. You can point out all the things that shouldn't be part of this and the things that should be incorporated, brought back or simply worked on a bit more. Since, most of the time, many complain but just a few try to help to make it better. I'm not saying that only complaining is a bad thing, since like that we can learn if we made a mistakes or what people think could be better. If you do have more feedback, feel free to send it to me in a private message. It will be easier to look at it later when making next year's challenge. (same for anyone else that has new ideas for this challenge) PinkChardam said: For those that have participated previously does event staff respond to complaints and make changes? Some quick questions as I was looking through stuff: 1. What's the difference necessarily between a web manga and a digital manga? I'm guessing how they're published but I'm not sure what separates the two. 2. Would a light novel adaptation count as being adapted from a book or would it be different? 3. Does anyone know of any anime adapted specifically from picture books? That one has been the hardest to find tbh Thanks!! I'm only doing 40 anime this year but I'm already really excited for all the new shows I'll be watching~ |

(21) Watch an anime with a main character that is a professional in their field: Would Starship Operators count for this? The description says: To gain funding, they make a deal with a galactic news network - and find themselves the "stars" of their own "reality show. So they are the stars of a reality show. So in my opinion that are professionals in that field since they are getting paid. |

When a item on the list has a number of main characters needed for it, like ones with a certain amount of main characters needing to have natural hair color, do the characters have to be listed as main characters on MAL? Something like The Tatami Galaxy has only natural hair-colored characters, but only three of them are labeled as main on MAL. |

All the re-occurring characters in 91 Days are older than 18 (including Angelo, I checked the wiki), but only two of the characters are actually marked "main" on MAL. To be considered "main" they have to be marked as main on MAL. (49) Watch an anime adapted from a Book: Would either of these fit for the challenge above? https://xss.now.cc/anime/1441 https://xss.now.cc/anime/7193 If not I'll look further o7 Also I have some general questions: 1. for the hair color challanges, "watch an anime with x or more main characters with a natural hair color" the show can't be used if there aren't x main characters at all, correct? For example, Tamayura has 4 MC's, but everyone in the show has natural hair colors. It would still not fit the "watch an anime with 6 or more main characters with a natural hair color" since there aren't 6+ MC's? 2. for something like "watch an anime with no opening or ending themes listed" it can be a film as well? 3. For the stand-alone OVA challenge, FLCL would no longer be usable, correct? |

Here's a list of examples if you need help finding something. Examples 1. Correct. If MAL doesn't have 6 characters listed as main then it can't be used for a challenge that needs 6 main characters. 2. Yes. Unless a challenge specifically says movie, ova, or something like that you can use anything for the challenge. 3. Yup. You cannot use FLCL for stand-alone OVA, since it has 2 sequels listed in the database even if they haven't aired yet. |

(75) Watch an anime with 3 or more main characters with unnatural hair color excludes black, brown, blonde, red, white and gray What about characters with 2-tone hair that uses those above colors? Like Kagami from Kuroko's Basketball who has red hair gradients into black. Or Hasegawa from Haganai (even worse, it's brown at the roots then becomes blonde then becomes brown again at the tips yet is his "natural" hair color according to the description). Not a natural look by any means but it technically does use natural colors listed. |

I'm going need some help understanding some of these challenges, so here go. (36) Watch the last movie part of a Movie-Series. Does it means that for a movie series, etc like Code Geass: Boukoku no Akito, the last movie part of this movie-series is Code Geass: Boukoku no Akito 5? (29) Watch an anime from the predictive search using a participant on your sign up page. How do I go about with this 'predictive search' thing on a participant's anime list? (I'm presuming I have to do that in their list.) Just type in a random letter and watch the first thing that appear? (68) Watch an active staff member`s favorite anime. Does this apply to both MAL and challenge staffs? And at this part I guess some suggestions/recommendation would be helpful. (85) Watch an anime with 30 minutes or more per episode. (86) Watch a related anime that aired at least 15 years before/after a previously completed series. (105) Watch a completed anime that doesn't have forum discussion threads. I guess that's all for now. Advance thanks to anybody who help! |
