Good day, children of the internet. Your friend and weeb extraordinaire Coolidger here. By the unlikely chance you have lost your way on this site and stumbled upon this profile by accident, please proceed to hit the x button on the top right corner of your browser and try again. If you've actually come here with the intent and purpose of learning more about my history with and tastes in the lovely and sometimes weird thing we call anime, then read on.
I, like many of my North American peers, was lucky to grow up in a day and age when anime was starting to gain an audience outside of its country of origin, Japan. Thanks to childrens television stations I was exposed to some early shows like Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z, Beyblade and later things like Inu Yasha and Naruto. It wasn't until I grew older that I grew a better understanding of what anime is and expanded my horizons. I started picking up the odd show here and there in 2006. It was 2012 when I really dived into the medium though. I was invited to and attended my first Anime North, an annually held cosplay convention in Canada, and from there my interest in anime grew and I started picking up shows off of recommendations and/or research, shows I would not have picked up prior.
To this day, I pick up a good variety of shows each season to watch and review. I take pride in my opinions regarding what I watch, but I also understand that my perspective is simply one of many and everyone looks for something different in a show. I love hearing and discussing new perspectives on a specific series with others that can help me look at a series in a new light. That said, I still have my own wants and expectations from the shows I watch, and will trust in the opinions I've formed regarding the series as well, to an extent.
And speaking of reviews, I finish almost everything I start, regardless of whether I'm enjoying it or not. I don't believe it's fair to judge a series without being able to judge the full thing, as some series have high and low points at different parts of the story. I will stick out a series to the finish even if I loathe it, not because I am a masochist or to prove anything, but simply for my pride as a completionist. There have been a few exceptions to this, shows I've dropped in the past, but I generally try to finish what I start.
As for preferences, if you want to see some of my favorite series and characters ever, I'll try to keep the favorites sections fairly up to date. Overall tastes though, I'm open to and have seen some good and some bad anime from just about every genre, with one notable exception. Mechs, or mecha anime. I can't do anything revolving around or heavily featuring mechs in anime. Don't ask me why, I've never been able to figure out the reasoning myself. It's just the way it is, as soon as I see a mech fight in an anime I lose all interest.
That's about it. You can check out my Youtube page if you want to see some of the reviews and podcasts I've done about anime, or you can check my anime list which contains a rating for every series and movie I've watched, as well as a short mini review of the series by scrolling over it with your mouse (if it looks uneven, adjust the zoom% of your browser). My ratings might seem a bit low to some, but keep in mind that I'm a fairly harsh critic and I like to use the full 10 scale when rating things, with 5 being the middle ground/average. Anything above 5 means I liked the show/thought it was good, and anything below..well yeah, you get the picture.
Ask me quest chins:
Q: Hey Coolidger, why are you asking yourself a question?
A: Because no one has asked me anything yet. When I get some questions I can put here, I'll get rid of this placeholder. ; )
