Best Anime-original City Hunter Characters
For an episodic anime like City Hunter, it does not matter much that 80 out of 140 episodes are fillers, especially when the show writers are as good at channeling the spirit of the original manga as they are. Through the anime medium some filler moments and characters even manage to surpass the original manga, mainly because the City Hunter has incredibly good music which is important to me. Although I mainly wanted to save moments from the manga since I will not reread the manga as much as I will rewatch the anime, it felt right to also list some unique points of the anime adaptation.
Here I list my ten favorite anime-original city hunter characters in decreasing order of how much I like them from left to right. From left to right, these characters are Sarah (SPOILER WARNING, ep 90), Hans Siegfried (ep 140), Kaede Hannnya (ep 75), Michael Garland (ep 32), Masumi (ep 48), Nana Yoshida (ep 34), Tsubaki Yamaoka (ep 124-125), Ikkan Saotome (ep 65), Yuka (ep 29) and Angel heart (ep 25).
Best City Hunter Hammers
A tribute to the superpower that only Kaori has mastered but other characters also manage to draw upon in certain critical moments. The anime has its fair share of hammers that are sometimes more creative than those in the manga. However, there already is a hammer compilation for the anime in the artbook included in the official City Hunter DVD box.
Here I list my ten favorite city hunter hammers in decreasing order of how much I like them from left to right. From left to right, starting with the upper row, these hammers are the final hammer (ch. 191), the dual hammer (ch. 188), the premium hammer (ch. 176), the idiot hammer (ch. 68), the heaviest hammer (ch. 175), Umibozu (ch. 179), the celebratory 1991 hammer (ch. 175), Kasumi’s gravity hammer (ch. 93), Kaori’s first hammer (ch. 176) and the hammer earrings (ch. 183).
Best City Hunter Boners
A tribute to the manifestation of mokkori power, Ryo’s 100 t boner, that was killed during the adaptation of the manga to the anime. The anime shows at times how dependent Ryo is on his mokkori power but only in the manga does it resemble an actual superpower. This story of the “mokkoriman” and the ”roaring hammer girl” begs the question of which superpower would win. Thankfully, Kaori’s hammer and Ryo’s boner have never collided because then the universe would probably implode.
Here I list my ten favorite city hunter boners in decreasing order of how much I like them from left to right. From left to right, starting with the upper row, these boners are the super mokkoriman boner (ch. 72), the inverted pull-up stake out boner (ch. 76), the anti-weakpoint boner (ch. 48), the roof-breaker boner (ch. 86), the levitation boner (ch. 145), the tripod boner (ch. 72), the door-breaker boner (ch. 73), the trotting boner (ch. 90), the peeping pull-up boner (ch. 49) and the doll boner (ch. 71).
