I don't think we watched the same anime. Hinako's baggage is a big part of the story, not something to be simply written off as edgy. Unless you don't value emotion in character

The Summer Hikaru died presented itself as a horror mystery but did nothing good on that aspect, the mystery was hardly noticeable and making creepy drawings doesn't make it a good horror, not to mention the ugly art. This Monster wants to eat me doesn't advertise itself as a horror mystery and is much more enjoyable and your comparison is flawed. Hikaru's author wrote big interviews but her work is just a trash. You most likely have never been in a position where you want to die but cannot take your life and wish for someone else to end your suffering that's why you are calling it edgy.
