some of my favorite reads of the year so far have been The Two of the Windy Town and Kiyo in Kyoto

my most anticipated reads right now are Seaside Beta and
Mothers from Glacier Bay books which should get to me somewhere this month

as for anime it's the second Mononoke movie which finally is coming to Netflix this August

i’m good too, thanks for asking!

and me too, though i’m more interested in manga than anime these days, what doesn’t help is the anime i’m interested in and want to watch are all upcoming. i’m really too tired after work to focus and watch something so reading is easier

have you read anything good lately?

I absolutely loved the Yorknew City arc. From the moment I watched it, I knew this show would be very special to me. Except for Kurapika, I loved all characters. I dislike him because he is petty much single-minded and drunk on revenge rather than collecting the eyes (although I can't understand what good it will do to collect eyes of a bunch of people who have already been killed). Also, his way of tackling the awesome Phantom Troupe felt like absolute plot armor, which is true as he traded his power with the limitation that he can only attack the spiders. And also I hated him because how Pakunoda had to sacrifice herself. Apart from him, I really like Killua, Gon, Leorio, they really resonate well with each other.

Hisoka's presence always made things very interesting, you can always feel something's going to happen soon. I feel what you say. He really shined with the main duo in the dodgeball game.

Sorry for the delayed reply, I was watching Gintama': Enchousen (Season 3). It was so PEAK that I literally made it my #1 favorite, replacing One Piece. Gintama is great not because of a crazy plot twist or story (the story is great btw), for me Gintama is the closest thing to my heart among all the things I've ever seen. It touched my soul, maybe it's sound like cliché words, but it's not. Looks like I'm blabbing too much :))

You can give it a try, but if you don't enjoy it then it's fine too as it's starting episodes takes some time to introduce a lot of characters than kick-start the story. Take care bye. ✌️

Thank you so much for accepting my FR, Marithe! (≧▽≦)ノ

I noticed you recently finished Hunter × Hunter (2011)—how was the experience for you? I absolutely loved it, especially the Chimera Ant and Yorknew arcs. Chimera Ant's character, drama and emotional intensity was peak, although time to time it took fair amount of time for build-ups.

Did it come close to making your top 10 favorites? If not, what could it have done better in your opinion?

Also, if you haven't already, I highly recommend checking out:

Mushishi – pure, atmospheric vibes

Samurai Champloo – cool Edo‑era meets hip‑hop flow

Terror in Resonance – cerebral and haunting

Let me know what you think! 😊
Feel free to discuss!

I'm so glad you liked them! And YAY VEIL! Right?? The art is like straight out of an exhibit, and so many panels make me swoon. The atmosphere that this couple creates is both so tender and sensual - they've got me kicking my feet with every chapter. Veil is one of the manga I actually submitted for the You Should Read This Manga 2025 challenge, so I'm thrilled that more people can be introduced to it.

Fair enough haha. I was never one to use Discord until I met my bf, but there's been a few great communities I've been able to interact with there, which has been really nice. You could check out the AWC Yearly challenge if you wanted a glimpse at what the club might have. The yearly is a MAL official challenge, so it's got a ton of different themes and prompts all in one challenge, while the AWCc offers a wide variety of challenges that target a specific goal. I think they're pretty fun, but I'm just a sucker for checking off lists xD. If you're interested or have any questions about the challenges or club, I'll help in any way I can :)

I was going to start Lazarus this season as well! My bf and I were waiting until the sub was available on HBO though, since they weirdly released the dub episodes before the sub. I think the first subbed episode should be out now, if not soon. Good to know that it's an enjoyable watch though - can't wait!

I hope you end up liking it! I couldn't put it down and immediately had to pick up the sequel xD

I feel you on both those fronts: this anime season is quite lackluster, and I have plenty of manga I should be catching up with before starting something new, but it's so hard (︶^︶). New = shiny = forgetting about 'on hold'. Though I did finish the last 4 chapters of a manga I started ages ago, so it was nice getting that outta the way.

You should totally give them a shot! I'm a part of both the Anime Watching Challenges Club and Manga Reading Challenges Club, and working on various challenges have been a real joy! You can go at your own pace and pick the challenges that most interest you, but I think you might like it. With your bio motto of "Anime is more than just entertainment—it’s a gateway to new perspectives, emotions, and experiences", I think you'd find the club to be a great way to experience new perspectives and anime :)

They also have a discord where I've found everyone to be so helpful and welcoming - they've created a truly great community over there.

That sounds lovely! I've always wanted a charm bracelet, but I'm so bad at remembering to put on jewelry or just remembering where I put it. My birthday's coming up in May, and my friend is more excited for me than I am 😭. It always feels like just another day, but family and friends can really make you feel special in the most surprising ways.

Now it's my turn to apologize for responding so late! Life and school have been so hectic lately - gotta love finals.

I believe I tried reading Choking on Love quite a while ago but couldn't get into it at the time. I am trying to reread/rewatch things I've dropped before, so I might just have to pick that one up again.

Kowloon sounds super interesting! I haven't been keeping up with as many seasonals lately, but I'll give that one a try once I'm done with school! All the anime I've watched recently were to finish AWCc challenges, so I'm kind of in an anime slump at the moment. After consuming so many light and fluffy anime/manga, I started craving more violence, so I recently completed Tokyo Ghoul + :Re and Kiseijuu (Parasyte), which were incredible reads. I did sneak in a lovely, cozy BL called Old-Fashioned Cupcake in between the dark fantasy/sci-fi, which immediately landed itself in my faves. It's just so sweet and wholesome, and the art is stunning!

It looks like you had a recent birthday! Happy belated!! Did you get to do anything special?

Hey, it’s been awhile! Have you read or watched anything you really enjoyed recently?
real_slim_jadey Jan 12, 5:11 PM
Yes, I totally agree! The author did a splendid job building their relationship organically in such a short amount of time. There wasn’t really any drawn-out drama or huge miscommunication between our two main characters, which I really appreciated. And we had consent! I hate how this genre is so riddled with non-consensual relationships that it can be hard to find a spicy one without it. You touched perfectly on how I felt about Pink Heart Jam when I first read it, so I’m really glad you liked it!

That cover is gorgeous! I’ve been wanting to read a short and cute BL recently, after some of the action-packed series I’ve been reading lately, so this will be perfect! I’ll try to get around to it soon and share my thoughts with you :)

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! It was a pleasure finding the best manga for you. Kamibukuro-kun was such a wholesome, lovely read for me, and it seemed like one you would appreciate as well.

You'll have to let me know what you think of the other recommendation after you finish it!

Happy New Year!

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the recommendation if you are able to get around to it. I intended to offer another rec along with the one I went with, but it was finals week and time got away from me, so I had to rush through just the one. Pink Heart Jam was the other quick read I was going to suggest based on some of your tastes. It's a spicier BL, but I think it does a pretty good job of exploring both main characters' ambitions and struggles in the short time it has. This was my first MAL Secret Santa event, and despite school stressing me the heck out, I really enjoyed challenging myself to find the best manga for you.

So thank you, and I hope you had a lovely holiday!

Hi there! Thank you very much for your Secret Santa manga gift :D I read it this past week and I really enjoyed it ^^. Might have helped that I also have cats on my own, so I could relate a lot with the main character haha. Was also impressed with how it set up the rules around the cat transformations (or lack thereof) and committed to it in the end. Had a lot of fun with it and I also recommended it to a friend who read it a day. Thanks for sharing this fun story with me ^^.
