WELP; simply put - after rewatching Mononoke hime I can't let a nostalgia score effect my views. Sure it was good before...but..from an overall subject I think if most newer people who have never seen it watched it today they would have a similar score because it's not that great.

As for Made in Abyss......I have NO idea why it has such a high score that is does. I am not a fan of the slowness, the pacing, lack of character development, or anything else in the show really. It's DRY. I kept waiting for it to be decent, but with such a LOW score it's not hard for others in my opinion to out perform it.

Just like anything in life, noboody is safe from subjectivity, and therefore a few opinions out of many can turn out unpopular. Me rating a few anime, including a BIG one (Evangelion) as very low is inevitably a path to unpopular opinion. Even though I watched hundreds of anime at this point (many are not listed here). Unfortunatelyy I'm lazy to explain why I liked those three more than Oregairu, Evangelion or Anohana, BUT I can explain instead why I didn't like those 3 supposedly great anime.

I'll start in order:

1.Oregairu - It's evolution sucked. It's pacing sucked even worse. The ending was bland. And maybe my own subjectivity preferred the edgy Hachiman from season 1 (which btw I rated highly) over the rest of the story (s.2 & 3)

2.Evangelion - Same as Oregairu the pacing was bad. And despite it being a psychological, deep anime, which some regard it as possibly the best overall, for me it simply didn't stick. And a big pet peave of mine here, is the WEAK male MC. I practically believe that Evangelion was one of the early and big contributors to the weak male MC trope, one of the most tired and shitty tropes, that still plague anime TO THIS DAY. I don't like weak male MC's, especially when they are so blatant. And I know Mirai Nikki had a weak male MC as well, but the sheer shock value of that one and the pacing being much better made it a more enjoyable experience overall. Besides in Mirai Nikki his weakness ironically worked in his favor, which bolstered the evolution of the story.

3.Anohana - Honestly I don't know, but to squeeze out a reason...it seemed a bit too simplistic I guess. This is the only one to which I kind of agree with you, that I may have been too harsh. Either that or I'm dead inside and cannot feel the emotion of this particular series. Maybe I'll rewatch it some day.

Because made in Abyss is hiiiiighly overrated with sub par predictable story and graphics weren't good enough make up for a boring storyline.

And watching Mononoke in 2020+ is simply not as good. Cautious hero...debatebly not that great. It had a few enjoyable moments, but after reflecting on your comment, I definitely wouldn't give it a 7, so I dropped it to a 6. I gave made in Abyss a 3 because it was bad. Mononoke Hime seems pretty fair, 5 is average; and really, SAO has some great seasons, and some bad ones. Season 1 Pt 1 of SAO was fantastic and everyone loved it before it was cool to hate. Part 2 was pretty good; and where gun gale online arc dropped the ball...it actually set up the foundation for where the story was going next which fluctuated back and forth from being damn good...and lacking in a few areas. Mononoke Hime is a 2 hour movie, to say it's as good as show with 24+ episodes and multiple seasons...it would have to have a superb storyline and stronge character development. Who can name 5 characters from that movie off the top of their head? Now who can name 5 characters from SAO? Akame ga Kill was good but they dropped the ball in alot of areas and blew the ending. Akame had the potential to be an 8, or even a 9 if they didn't blow it; BUT if it was ranked a 6 I wouldn't complain. Even STILL; that would still be higher than Mononoke, which I gave a 5 average, and Made in Abyss which I gave a 3. Made in the Abyss is over hyped; and was extremely boring.

Lastly, just peeking at your list, you have a lot of things ranked 8,9,10....your average score is 8.75 on 60 completes, mine atleast for now is 6.79 on over double that so really, it just seems like I grade a little bit more harshly. Not a problem. LOL I'm not judging at all. We just like different things and grade differently.

Because my higher rated shows aren't pretentious like Lion or Madoka. Also YLIA is a terrible drama and made me laugh more than cry a single tear.

-Re:Zero s2 was boring, not that I didn't like it, but it wasn't thrilling and just flat out bored me like Breaking Bad, also not a bad show but slow and boring AF, I am looking forward to a 3rd season as the story and setting very much pleases me.

-Can't quite give you a full explanation on Demon Slayer, It was very lame at the start and I dropped it, maybe it becomes great after a while, like Katekyo Hitman Reborn! That was way worse at the start, but I'm not a kid anymore I don't have time for things that don't catch my attention at the beggining, need to work to avoid starving me and my dog to death.

-Evangelion is just the most overrrated thing I've ever seen! Did not watch it in my youth, Watched absolutelly everything after adulthood trying to find what's good about it, but nah, nope, it's just some characters thrown around with things happenning simply for the sake of getting an overeaction out of them; especially the main character, a lot of religious things are thrown around with absolutelly no meaning, the story itself has no meaning, the entire thing is even less explained than Lost's ending, at least Lost was good for a while. Yeah, maybe it should be called "Random Shit Happens" I'm not amused by it, I don't rate it high, that's just that! And honestly I try to give the rating I feel like things deserve when I rate it, and that's directly correlated to age, that's why you won't see me rating Saint Seiya or Dragon Ball Z a 10/10 because I found them incredible when I was 10, yes they're nostalgic, but nostalgia has a very different meaning than good, great, amusing or entertaining. I now know of better things and as such they were rated comparatively lower.

TLDR: I rate things in a scale of what amuses me more!

Maybe because I'm not a hipster and mostly enjoy popular anime. I tend to not like anime that are overly emotional, the emotions have to be tied to actual things that happen in the plot. A lot of the shows you listed second were just really boring. A lot of the shows you listed first were shows that are bangers (how can you hate tokyo ghoul and mirai nikki?) so idk what your problem is. Maybe we just watch anime for different reasons, I feel like even if I don't agree with someone's picks I can sort of understand their taste by seeing which shows they like or don't like.

I read the manga of Beastars but I guess I probably didn't like the animation. idk why I couldn't get through Nichijou but I think the highlights out of context are really funny. Your right, I should probably revisit dororo shouwa genroku, serial experiments lain, akira, nichijou, anohara, sangatsu no lion ect but I am just too bored. I hate when shows are centered around games I don't know the rules too. I think I gave monster a 6 or a 5 and that is pretty good considering when it was released and the amount of episodes it has. When you compare to onizuka sensei it fell short although it does have one of the best anime villains.

Your probably right about me missing all the deeper meaning in your lie in april. Maybe I wanted romance, didn't get any and I was just too bored out of my mind to notice. I like when anime is deep but imo it has to be tied to things that happen in the plot. You can't just toss around a bunch of themes with nothing happening on the frontend and expect me to like it. Being brain dead doesn't necessarily make a show bad. If a show had a tone of conflict and interesting characters without exploring deep themes I would probably like it.
