uhmm fruits basket was pretty cute in general, i found it a bit cliche though ;w; and also it's soo obvious it was based off a very old manga, since a lot of the messages in the show were a bit... sexist in a way? but ehh it was alright x)
i hope you get well soon too~ and also i hope you had a great holiday season!
Yup, I finished with exams two weeks ago. I won't having more exams until May if I'm not mistaken, which is super great! Anyhow, thank you, I think I did well enough. Right now I'm just craving the spring break so much.
I'm jealous! Everytime I have the opportunity to practice my pronunciation or have a conversation in English I forget all the grammar rules and everything I've learned for some reason. I'm better at the listening and writing part. I still have my mistakes though, some accents are pretty difficult to understand for me (American and British accents are fine, I have trouble with Chinese and French accents >.<). On the other hand sometimes I make really basic mistakes while writing but I guess I'm skilled enough to write coherent sentences. That's right! And it doesn't even have to be a professor, just having someone who can point out your mistakes it's more than enough, especially if that person is a native speaker of the language you're trying to learn.
Over here, spring break starts on April 7th... I guess it should be close to yours!
Thank you so much! One of my professors just told me the date of my next exams and I'm already getting quite nervous. There are a lot of national days here in February and March and we will be having a lot of days off from college. That's why most classes are going by extremely fast.
Learning grammar and spelling isn't really difficult to me. I'm pretty good at memorizing stuff and practicing on paper, so that parts works just fine for me. Where I go completely blank is pronunciation. I usually don't feel really confident speaking in a language that isn't my mother tongue, so I usually forget how to form basic sentences and I start to stutter a lot. I mean, if that happens to me while speaking English, I don't even want to imagine what would happen if I tried speaking Japanese. ;_;
Oh so you have a Japanese teacher? That's so nice, I thought you were learning on your own! I personally prefer to have a teacher. It's good to know someone you can ask for help.
Thank youu!! I mean, I've gotten higher scores, but considering the fact that a lot of people couldn't really pass all their classes and have to take extra exams so that they can continue studying then I must say I can't really complain. :) A little bit of time to spend with your loved ones is better than nothing! At least we aren't that far from spring break... Do you have spring break in the States?
Languages are always interesting and really useful to study, too bad I don't have enough talent for those things. Are you still studying Japanese? Can you already read kanji? I'm asking because I've heard like 100 times that kanji is like the most difficult part of Japanese and that it takes a lot of time to learn.
And yup, I have already finished with my finals! I didn't sleep anything and stayed until really late at night to study, but somehow I managed to take every single exam without dying. I received my results last Monday, and to be honest I didn't do that bad! I'm pretty happy with my scores, actually. I was pretty scared because one of my teachers said that most of the students failed her exam, but fortunately I wasn't part of that group of people. So yeah, I can't really complain about anything. I just wish vacations were longer.
Sprains?! That sounds painful! I have never broken a bone either... well, I almost broke my hand while playing volleyball a few weeks ago, but it didn't go that far. I did have to bind up my hand and put some ice over it, though, since my hand looked purple. It's fine now, though :P
You have no idea of how many people I've seen that genuinely think that humans are some kind of superior creatures that "are too intelligent to be homosexual and that nature doesn't apply to us", but still they will continue saying that homosexuality is "bad" because it "isn't natural". Like, they can't even state their views without contradicting themselves. They just can go around in circles until you get tired of trying to talk to them.
Ah, formality varies too in Spanish! I've found the fact that in English there's only one "you" to be really silly. Like, in English you don't have to worry about being too formal or the other way around, because there's only one second-person pronoun: you. In Spanish we have two pronouns: "tú" (the most common one you use with pretty much everyone), and "usted" (the one you use to show special respect). Some times it's confusing because people don't really know if they are supposed to show special respect to someone else. In Japanese they have like a lot of more honorifics and stuff depending on the formality of the context, right? ;__; Ugh, languages are difficult. I'm too dumb for these things.
Ikr! I'm really happy to know that there are people out there in my country who actually care about these things. The amount of transphobic people I've seen among my classmates and family is really alarming. Some times it feels like it's impossible to convince people that being transgender shouldn't be a matter of hate, violence, and discrimination, but slow progress is still progress! :D
It's been okay, I've had my tough moments as well but I think I've done my best. :3 I'm having my finals in January, though, so I still need to study. Plus, I really want to get highest average score in my major this semester. Last year I came out first without even worrying about being 1st, but now I don't want to give my position to someone else. I hope I can do well D:
Ah, now I remember that I was obsessed with the song Fall Out Boy sung for that movie. Was it called "Immortals"? I guess that was its name lol. The protagonist seems really nice as well. It's quite surprising since most teenagers in kid's movies are pretty annoying.
That's cool, some times I really like those kinds of movies too. :) I guess that's why I liked Shrek so much. Every time I watch those movies nowadays I end up noticing the adult jokes that I couldn't understand when I was a child. It's hilarious, lol.
I hope you never have one, it's not a very pleasant experience. Have you ever broken a bone? o:
To be honest, no matter how much I think about it, I still can't understand why those people insist on being so hateful towards people who aren't cis and/or straight. This reminds me a lot of a teacher I had during high school. One day she told me that homosexuality didn't exist in nature and the like. I tried to prove her wrong by showing her this article. When she read the first two paragraphs she said "Ewwwwwwwww". I mean, I would have expected that kind of thing from a toddler, but she was in her forties. What kind of reaction was that? xD
I agree with you. In general, Asian languages are really difficult. I started learning Chinese a year ago and I'm still having trouble with the grammar and the symbols. You can read a single character in a lot of different ways depending on the context, it's really annoying. ;o; Plus, the pronunciation is extremely difficult. Actually, I'm better at identifying parts of speech in English than in my first language. I've been hearing the same things about adverbs, adjectives, nouns, etc. since elementary school, after all.
You can already assume that a "debate" (because they usually end up being fights instead of debates) is going to be a waste of time if the other person uses phrases like "special snowflake", "I identtify as an attack helicopter, my pronouns are I/am/stupid" or "shoving down everyone's throats" in their """""arguments""""". And ikr! They think they look funny saying those kinds of things, but they look ignorant instead.
Slow progress is still progress, after all. Actually, a couple of days ago they showed the information in that article in my country's national news! They took a couple of months to talk about it, but they finally did it. I thought they were just going to ignore it and keep talking about Trump. I still think that they are going to take way too much time on the declassification issue. I mean, they are going to start thinking about it in 2018? Why not now? But well, at least it's better than nothing. Trans people have still a long way to go, but their future is looking a little bit better thanks to that study!
Yeah, I was very happy when I read that the study was done in Mexico City! They say they are going to make the same study in a lot of other countries so the results can seem more reliable than before, though.
And yes! I even think that nowadays movies for kids are way better than the ones for adults. I just figured out that 90% of the new movies I've watched this year are for kids. Damn. xD
Never? Really? D: It was my second time having a nosebleed, though. They aren't painful or anything, but they really creep me out. The first time I had a nosebleed I was abroad, and it seems that my nose didn't like the weather that much. xD
It would be nice if they just stop saying that talking about sexuality is a sin or something, it only perpetuates the problem. Haha yeah, and I don't even understand the logic they are trying to follow with that statement. I mean, you know you're straight when you feel a primary attraction to the opporsite gender, right? You don't have to sleep with everybody to figure out your sexuality, seriously, who came up with this nonesense? xD Lol, that reminds me of a person on the forums who said that they wanted their children to grow up in a world in which only two genders existed, and I was pretty much like ?????? Yeah buddy, and I wanted to grow up in a world with pink unicorns and fairies, but that doesn't exist either, lmfao.
Yeah, it gives me the impression that they aren't even trying to understand the other person. This things are definitely rude, especially if they are misgendering some close to them on purpose, like a friend or a member of their family. I'm sure it must be really crappy that the people you care about keep referring to you as the gender they think you should embrace for youself.
Don't worry, not everyone has the same writing skills. I'm not really confident with my posts either, since I'm always checking they have the best grammar possible. Some times I think I'm not expressing myself correctly, and that I could have made a much better job explaining my point if I was able to post in my first language. English is pretty difficult. :(
That's true. When one or more of these topics are discussed on the forums, pretty much everyone agrees with the "Stop believing you're a special snowflake!!!" opinion. It's always a pleasure to talk to people who are on the accepting side. :D
Aw, I guess I took a while to find that article because I don't have any Facebook/Twitter account. I admit that after I saw that someone posted that article on Tumblr, I looked up on Google for similar articles to make sure it was true. It was just such an amazing thing that I really thought it was a joke or something. Yeah, I guess people like that only like reading articles that support their transphobic opinions. :/ But I think this is definitely a good reward for the people who have been fighting for a change all these years, and a big step forward for trans people to finally be accepted by society. I was especially happy because the study that proved that transgenderism isn't a mental illness was done in the city I live in. I'm glad to hear that my country actually cares about these people. ^^
Ehhh... I'm not really sure. As far as I know, I'm neurotypical, so I can't really relate to that kind of feelings, but I never thought about it as a mental illness. It just didn't make sense. When I started debating this topic with other people on MAL, they said that if transgenderism isn't really a mentall illness, then why most trans people suffer from depression, anxiety, or even from suicidal tendencies? And I thought, well, if you keep bullying, rejecting and killing them like you're doing right now, it's totally understandable that those people are going to end up feeling miserable and having problems when talking to other people. And that article just proved my point. I guess they just thought that depression, anxiety, etc. were symptoms that came hand by hand with their dysphoria, regardless of the close-minded society they are constantly forced to fit in.
Well, crazy adults who want to ban everything related to sex in the media are everywhere, not only in the US. Latin America is pretty known for being really, REALLY conservative, so that makes everything worse. I'm glad I never attended to religious schools, I guess sex education is very controlled in those places. Yeah, that would be the wisest decision to make, but hey, it seems that a lot of people are still offended when someone dares to say "penis", "vagina", or "sex" out loud. Goob job old generations, continue showing your kids classic Disney princesses movies, they are for sure better at giving proper education and life lessons lmao. Yup, when you're younger you're very likely to just automatically assume that you are straight, even if you don't feel any primary attraction to the opposite sex or to anyone at all (because you're going to feel that attraction later, right? it's just a phase, am I wrong? huh). Stupid people say that thanks to this "bullshit liberal media that is promoting other sexualities and genders", teenagers are "going" homosexual or transgender. The thing is that LGBT people are born like that, but a big part of them just ignores it because they don't know there's actually a term for what they are feeling and represents them way better than "cisgender" or "heterosexual".
Yup, I've always supported the idea that people deserve respect, but ideas/arguments don't. It's not the same to say "you're stupid" than to say "your argument is stupid". It's always better to include your reasons why certain idea or argument is stupid, though. xD And yeah, she was obviously just misgendering them just for the sake of being rude. I understand that a lot of people can accidentally misgender other person (especially because they are not used to speak to non-binary people, or they knew a trans person before they decided to start transitioning), but the difference is that a decent person would say "I'm sorry, I meant he/she/them/etc.", and try not to make the same mistake. That person on the forums was clearly just being rude, lol.
Yeah... it's quite weird. It makes me feel that this type of people are afraid about what others might reply to them because of what they have said in their post, so they just start editing their paragraphs until the post is literally saying a whole different thing.
I'm glad as well! I've been having a hard time finding people who share similar views in topics like sex and gender ; ^ ; And thank you for accepting my friend request!
By the way, I found this a few days ago, and it made me really, really happy. I'm surprised it wasn't featured in the news, though. I guess everyone is busy throwing shit at Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Anyways, what do you think?
http://www.sciencealert.com/the-un-is-finally-going-to-declassify-transgender-as-a-mental-illness
It's going to be fun to show this link to the people shouting "urrr durrr stupid radical feminazis should stop promoting f*cking mental illnesses!!!!!!!!". Oh yeah. I see it coming. :P
I watched the video you mentioned. It was so freaking hilarious because all the things that man mentioned are true. I thought sex education in the State was better than the sex ed we have here, because the US is a first world country and it's supposed to have better education. I was talking the other day to an American guy in here and he told me that there most people see sex as some kind of sin. It's funny, because here we have posters about STD's everywhere. We even have commercials to encourage teenagers to use condoms and be responsible (people here are still pretty stupid and don't take care of themselves anyways). But again, at least in my case, sex education is always limited to straight sex. Once in a while you'll hear the teacher mentioning homosexual people, but that's pretty much about it. And there's much more than just straight/homosexual/bisexual. For things like this I thought I was straight for a long time. Because I didn't know there were more sexualities than just those three, so I thought I was a straight girl who would eventually feel attracted to guys. That never happened. And I'm pretty sure a lot of people can't figure out what their sexuality and gender really is because they haven't heard about anything outside of being a female or a male, straight, gay, or bi.
Haha, the worst thing you can do during a discussion is to start attacking the person instead of their arguments. But I guess edgy teenagers who can't take that a person has a different opinion about a certain topic like using ad hominems, because they think they sound smart and revolutionary (free speech!!! those goddam SJW's want to censor my opinions!!!!!). What you did was really mature, though. Other users would have replied with more and more insults. And yeah, it seems that they can't decide what to write or not in their reply. I remember that in their last reply, they included a whole paragraph just about them shit talking about their old non-binary friend. To make things better, they reffered to their friend as a "female" or a "girl". I don't remember which one of those two, but there is it. Then they deleted the whole paragraph.
In my opinion, it depends on what things you're editing in your reply. Like, for example, if you find typos, grammar mistakes, etc, etc. that's understandable. I edit a lot of my posts after publishing them because I tend to type a little bit too fast and don't really notice if I wrote something incorrectly (and I'm kind of a perfectionist, so it bugs me a little bit if I just leave it like that). However, deleting and adding entire paragraphs... what the actual f*ck.
That's true, and unfortunately people still say they would be uncomfortable to share a bathroom with a trans person (which is silly, because most people can't really tell cis and trans people apart at first glance and without looking at their genitals). It baffles me when someone labels all trans people as "creepos with hairy legs who want to record cis men/women in the bathroom". I just can't understand why are people so disrepectful.
It's normal for teenagers to want attention. Of course playing with identities that aren't yours just so you can feel special is not fine and you only end up making other people to look at actual trans and nonbinary people as trendy as well (which is a stupid generalization, but that's what people do nowdays). If a person really feels comfortable with certain gender or sexuality they have the right to refer themselves as those. And there's no reason to bitch on them. Figuring out your sexuality and gender indentity is something that takes time, and isn't often an easy thing to accept. Because if you're anything else than cis and straight, someone out there is going to make fun of you. People are going to judge you.
And thank you~ you're a really nice person! (^▽^)
That's logical if you're posting on a forum, but that person attacked you personally instead of actually trying to have a serious discussion with you. I was quite shocked when I saw that the first thing that person did was to discredit your identity and to call your pronouns a "nonsense". Like, to be honest, I don't see why they should be so agressive and rude. It isn't worth it, so don't even bother reading it. xD I was pretty curious about it so I checked the thread a few times to see the new replies, and every time I checked that person edited their reply. None of the edits were any better, because they ended up being rude in one way or another. But yeah, don't even bother. You can't do anything against stubborn people.
I mean, you can have the same opinion as someone else, but you would at least try to express it in your own words, because every person is different and speaks different about their subjectivity. But all the times it's like they are just copy-pasting everyone else's opinions, using the exact same words and ignorant misconceptions. You can even predict what they are going to say next. It's like they do it by memory, lol.
You're so right! I yet have to see a school that talks about trans people to their students. All the sex education I received during my middle school / high school days were just about straight sex, masturbation, and puberty. That was pretty much it. Like, they never tell anyone about sexualities, sexes and genders. And this is why people think that trans people are trans because they are homosexual (what?). Unfortunately I don't see that happening anytime soon, since the people who are against these kinds of things are still the majority. To be honest I wasn't expecting that of a school in a third world country that is, in my opinion, really conservative. They even let him use the bathroom he wanted, regardless of him being trans. Cis boys always shit-talked about him everytime he was brave enough to use the males' bathroom, of course, but I was really happy to know that he was being supported by the teachers. Another school would have kicked him out for doing that. :/
I really dislike when people reduces a whole group into the few ones who are acting stupidly. Yeah, we know that it's possible that some people might be faking just for the sake of grabbing everyone's attention and having 15 minutes of fame, but you shouldn't put everyone in the same box. Every person is a whole different world, and not everything would apply to every person in the world. Plus, faking something is not same as being confused. I don't see what's so wrong about figuring out your identity. It doesn't make it less valid, or less real. People should stop acting like if they knew more about other people's identity than those people themselves.
Well, there are definitely cis men out there who understand and accept feminism, but there are not very common, especially in this generation. The only man I knew in real life who was interested a lot in feminism was my Literature teacher back in high school. I yet have to find a cis male of my same age who accepts feminism as what it is.The other femnists I've met in person are girls, so yeah I understand your point. But yeah, it's silly how some men (especially on this website) say "we suffer too!!!!!!" everytime anyone complains about how women are treated as objects even to these days, and yet they are the ones who keep perpetuating the same toxic stereotypes men are supposed to follow. I'm sick of those "alpha males vs beta males" and "big dicks vs small dicks" threads. Like gosh, how contradictory can they get?
Don't worry~ You didn't deserve to be treated that way. It's not the first time I see someone on this site reacting like that to someone who goes by different pronouns. As you said, they are just random people on the internet who aren't playing any important role in your life. Assholes are everywhere, and the best you can do for now is to ignore them and rely on the people who accept you for who you are. I've been told that my identity is "nonsense" as well, but meh.
This turned out to be longer that what I expected lmao.
I probably shouldn't have said that, since now you got pretty long replies to your post. Exactly! And I've figured out as well that they don't even know how to use most of the terms they constantly mention in their posts. Like, for example, they often refer to women who hate men as "feminazis", when the term was created to insult actual feminists who are fighting for equality and the right to make decisions concerning their own body. And to be honest I don't see why they should link a movement like feminism to something like the holocaust. It makes me think that they just heard the word from some uneducated youtuber and thought it was funny, so they started using the word as well. Seriously, and then they speak about people being brain-washed and ignorant.
Yeah, that's true. I usually come across with people like that, especially in real life. Half of them don't even know what's a trans person, a non-binary person and anything related. The other half are homophobes, transphobes, etc. I remember that in high school there was a trans boy in another class, and people in my class usually refered to him as "the tomboy", "the lesbian", etc. It was pretty disgusting to just sit there and listen to all that crap. I constantly tried to call them out (as I do here lol), but they wouldn't listen. The teachers were pretty open-minded and supported him as well, so he wasn't alone.
You ended up posting much more than anybody else did, lol. Yeah, they were pretty rude. Even if they disagree with it there is no reason to say they "are spreading cancer" or "are just pretending to be something they would never be". Also, I'm pretty sure you don't need to hear this, but don't let that kind of people get to you. There's nothing wrong in clarifying which are your pronouns. Plus, since it's your profile, you can do whatever you want it.
LOL That reminds me that some days ago I re-watched the speech that Emma Watson gave at the UN a couple of years ago. I saw this guy saying that her entire speech was "the same bullshit as always", and that "she just cares about women's problems". It's funny because she highlighted how men suffer a lot thanks to sexism as well. When someone asked him if he really did watch the video before saying anything, he said he only listened to the first five seconds. Like yeah, these people will just start spreading toxicity at the moment they see/hear/whatever the word "feminism". It's ridiculous.
"I can't always tell if they're cool like you". Ha, thank you! Don't sweat it, some times it can be difficult to find people to talk to. I usually don't care about those things and talk to anyone who sends a friend request or leaves a message. If the person has toxic opinions I start being more and more distant. I mean, most of the times you don't get to hear that kind of opinions from people until you talk enough to them.
Haha don't worry, I'm pretty picky as well. :b I've been having trouble finding good threads lately, but this is definitely a good one: http://xss.now.cc/forum/?topicid=1530190 Take a drink every time you see anyone quoting science the wrong way. Take two drinks for every user you see mentioning the words "tumblr" and "SJW".
