Did you warm up to the Maki episode yet or do you still hate it? The latest episode was pretty good.

I stand with you against the JJK normiecattle

I don't agree with most of of your criticism to the latest JJK episode. I myself was unsatisfied with some parts because,as you said, they did overdo it with the action on the 2nd half but it's not really THAT much of a big deal. The fights themselves are almost exactly the same as the manga. The only bad parts were Jinichi calmly walking as if the situation is not urgent and the Kill Bill reference taking you out of the emotional moment with Maki's family and that's not because of the animation being a reference to Kill Bill but the soundtrack instead.

I don't think the soundtrack and those "changes" are enough to ignore how beautifully done the episode was. I think it was, without a doubt, one of the best episodes in the series. A perfect adaptation with the right soundtrack would be a 10,this was either a 7 or an 8. I think it was good enough. I'd be glad to know your thoughts.

yeah, fair enough. its been quite a while since I have read it. It is also fair to say that there is a lot of headcannon going on, but I often do try to look at things beyond the surface level, unfortunately many directors and creators don't just throw in that extra context to answer any stray questions the viewers may have, anime or otherwise in the entertainment medium. I appreciate you taking the time to talk through it, it has brought many things to light I hadn't thought of or explored, and ill definitely be reading through the manga again, and hopefully actually continuing past where I had stopped before.

well then yeah i guess maybe that was an instance where it just wasn't done very well but it didn't seem like a very massive deal, if anything it still somewhat seems like it can be the gravity distorting her face and not even really a smile, if anything the reason it does look that way is because one corner of her mouth stays relatively still, while the other corner is pushed up, and because her face was in a somewhat grimace form so that when one corner was pushed up it looked like she was smiling widely. Especially since the very next frame of her, she isnt making any face at all, so either she took control back of her own face, or she went back to being unamused after only a few moments if she really was just smiling. I guess it's up for interpretation, to each their own I suppose. Also, with the kill bill thing, I do think they tried to make her fighting a little flashy and unnecessary at times, but I also think there was a bit of a different approach. Rather than just having her be filled with grief over her sister and the resentment they faced from their own family and clan, I personally think there was more to it in the anime, like she was proving to herself that she was strong, so rather than just getting the job done, and as much sadness as she may have been feeling, there was a part of her that wanted to let loose and not be merciful to them and also toy with them in a playing-with-your-food kinda way, and almost more like it was a liberation from their rejection of her and mai. Unfortunately, I can't say much about what else happens, as I said I haven't been keeping up with the manga very much, but I can see where you are coming from.

yeah, looking at it from that perspective I can see where the music messed things up a bit. I also would have loved for the choir during Mai's scene to continue on after that as well. I also think the whole kill-bill reference was leaned into a little too much which made it stray away from the original pain filled sorrow. However, in some instances where she smiled or looked like she was doing it for fun, I personally saw those moments as maki being so stricken with grief and sadness that she was just losing her mind in that moment, not that she was necessarily enjoying it. Not to undermine what you said, to each their own of course, but I do believe the director may have just gotten a little ahead of himself in a few aspects of the second half.

I wanna know what you thought made jjk s3 ep4 worse in the second half? I dont see how it was misinterpreted exactly, I read the manga recently and I thought it was a great episode through and through based on what I had read up to the hakari stuff. Not to shit on any opinions, I just want to know more.

Spot on about your comment where the flashbacks were breaking up the flow of the movie. I was getting so hyped, characters would be aura farming, and then it would grind to a halt with flashbacks and shallow dialogue.

Nice review for the Demon Slayer movie, I also didn't like how the flashbacks are breaking the flow of the battles. Flashbacks are so overused in anime, imo the only anime that nailed flashbacks is Frieren.

That makes perfect sense. I prefer to look back and rate things as a whole. Endings can lower my scores (and often do) but I am usually able to still appreciate what the story has given me.
Melkybubbles Nov 15, 2024 3:06 PM
Your point is completely fair. I completely agree with you that the ending and the final arc were absolutely terrible and arguably ruined the series to a certain extent. However like you said, the rest of the story was great and you really enjoyed it.

To me, giving something a 1 means it has no redeeming qualities. Oshi no Ko does. It truly was amazing up until the final arc. Even if the ending completely ruins the story for you, there is no denying that you still enjoyed the series until then. It would make perfect sense for you to give it a 5, a 4, or even a 3. But a 1? That doesn't make any sense.

I won't try to change your mind on the ending or any of your opinions (I don't agree with doing that unless somebody doesn't have anything to back up their opinions). I just think that the score is harsh considering you loved the story.

If oshi no ko was a good read up until the final arc, then how is it a 1?
