What the heck ToT I just stumbled in from this post to check if you're French, when i saw all the hate comments. What did you do?? lmfao. Your reviews aren't even that bad lmao. Don't let it get to you! :)
I've just read it. It's a really good one! You truly capture the heart of what makes Saint Seiya feel so much bigger than just a typical shounen. It's always great to see this kind of writing about Saint Seiya, I mean well-written, using the right vocabulary for the themes being explored, yet still rooted in the spirit of the series itself.
The symbolic layers you pulled out—especially the mythological and Christian parallels were powerful and made a lot of sense, even if they sometimes went beyond what was directly shown in the story, or perhaps beyond what the author explicitly intended when he had been working on Saint Seiya all those decades ago. But that kind of interpretative approach is only possible with truly polished works of art; stories that touch on universal themes and present them in a way that satisfies both those looking for pure entertainment and those who want to dive deeper into the lore, philosophy, and meaning behind it all.
Saint Seiya blends so many ideas that it can resonate with people from all kinds of cultural backgrounds. Kurumada-sensei clearly combined Greek, Buddhist, and even some Christian elements to create a kind of syncretic cosmology... which only makes this already inspirational tale even more rewarding to experience. :)
I also saw that you wrote a review for Centuria! I read it right after finishing the Saint Seiya one. It’s definitely a harsh take, but not in a bad way, lol. Honestly, I agree with most of your points about Centuria's quality - both in terms of the writing and the art.
I remember you posting a few weeks ago on Centuria’s subforum on MAL, mentioning that the current arc might be a turning point for the series, revealing the direction it’s likely to take going forward. I agree with that, but it’s starting to look like the path has already been chosen: a pretty standard "mediocre battle shounen" route. Still fun to read, but nothing all that special or groundbreaking. I hope that "old Centuria" will return once this arc's over, but I doubt it will... :/ Well, at least it's a fun and light story to read, heh.
The mangaka himself is aware of it. For example, in this interview, when answering a question about heliocentrism persecution at the time: https://media.comicspace.jp/archives/18037
"We're under the impression that heliocentrists were oppressed but looking at history, it doesn't seem that they were persecuted that much. However, nowadays many people think they were. This misunderstanding felt interesting to me so it's one of the reasons I decided to use it as the topic of this manga."
