Berserk treats darker themes such as trauma, grief, nihilism, revenge. Having such a dark setting makes the hopeful undertones that usually concludes the shady arcs have much more weight and sends a valuable message that resonates with the reader in the so evil and depressing reality we live in.
I have much more to say abt berserk than sbr, but sbr is also a masterpiece of it's own, the characters and specially the villains are masterfully crafted, their ideals, morals and actions all coexist in synchrony making for realistic and logical characters that feel humane. A much less "evil vs good" kind of story, it's more a clash of values in which the less determined will fall.
