Q: How do you rate anime?
A: I rate anime mainly on story and characters. Animation only impacts my score if it’s so bad that it ruins the experience. Otherwise, animation doesn’t affect my ratings, keeping things fair across all eras of anime, from the 1980s to today.
Q: What anime do you tend to watch?
A: I watch anime that interests me. I prefer a varied list, not just for the sake of variety, but because I want to experience a wide range of stories and genres, which helps keep things fresh and exciting.
Q: Why do you have so many anime in your plan-to-watch list?
A: Whenever I find an anime that looks interesting, I add it to my plan-to-watch list. This helps me narrow down options when I want to watch something but can’t decide. I can browse my planned list and easily pick something that fits my mood or current interest.
Q: Why are there so few 10s in your ratings?
A: A 10 is a rare gem for me. It’s my definition of perfection—something I wouldn’t change a thing about. I’m very picky with my 10s, and while many anime are incredible, they don’t hit that level of emotional attachment for me, so they get a 9 instead.
Q: Where do you discuss anime?
A: I don’t really chat or post in forums on MAL, though I love it for its convenience when it comes to tracking, listing, and ranking animes. But when it comes to discussions, discord is my go-to place. I discuss anime with friends from all over the world here:
https://discord.gg/JgRH3jHu8C. It’s not a fanbase of any specific franchise—we talk about all types of anime and are open to any opinions. We’re pretty chill and just enjoy the conversations. Oh, and we have a waifu gacha bot and even a custom bot that ranks us based on how much we’ve watched and compares our scores for fun.
Q: Why is there nothing in your dropped list?
A: I try to finish everything. Sometimes watching gets boring because the story or pacing doesn’t work for me, but instead of dropping it, I just take a break and put it on hold.
Q: Do you rate anime before finishing them?
A: No, I wait until I’ve finished the anime to give it a rating. I see anime as dynamic, so I feel a preliminary score wouldn’t be fair. I prefer to judge once I’ve experienced the entire story.
Q: What about OVAs and specials?
A: I usually don’t score them. They’re more for fun since they rarely have much story.
Q: How do you list your favorite characters?
A: Most of my favorites are waifus, but I mean this in a normal, grounded way. It’s not just looks—they’re characters with great depth or personalities that connect with me on a personal level.
Q: What was your first anime?
A: I grew up on Naruto, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Digimon, but the first anime I actually finished was Hunter x Hunter. I couldn’t have asked for a better start—it’s the show that made me fall in love with anime.
