Nanatsu no Taizai Movie 1: Tenkuu no Torawarebito

Note: I had to watch the movie German-dubbed in the cinema after watching both seasons with German subs, so I wasn't able to fully enjoy the movie because the dub was not really nice in my opinion...

Story (6/10)
The movie looks to have been done so that also watchers who didn't watch the anime could enjoy it, but that makes it quite "flat" story-wise. There is nothing new and special for all who watched the two seasons, and there's no additional thrill or any unforeseeable plot twist. That's understandable but sad.

The story would definitely not fit for an OVA, but this movie has quite many ... lengths. Mostly in the first half, nothing really happens and only the characters and the setting get explained a bit. The second half was nice as soon as the fights started. The storyline is a little bit random, involving "Sky Winged ones" and a demon fight almost not related to the TV series at all.

Also, it's not clear at which point of the anime story the movie is placed. It has to be at least after the middle of season 2 because of the involvement of all sins, but the overall setting was too peaceful to be set somewhen during season 2?

Art (9/10)
The same as in the anime series. Quite many additional landscape shots that were visually stunning but unnecessary storywise, but that's fine for a cinema movie.

Sound (9/10)
Was also the same as in the anime series, I liked it very much. The ending song was also quite good.

Character (6/10)
The characters are the same main characters from the anime. There is no progress in characterization, and just some small explanations of the already known abilities of the Seven Deadly Sins. The only additional thing we get is a small hint at Elizabeth's abilities and strength (which has also somehow been teasered at the end of season 2 already). And a new special move for defeating enemies. That's okay, but nothing more.

Enjoyment (7/10)
The movie was fun, Hawk did very interesting and funny things and the fights were nice, too. Overall, the humor was the best thing of the movie aside from the visuals. The dialogues seemed fine as far as I could tell because of the problems I had with the dubbing. Sadly there was no additional fanservice.

I am not sure why this movie was made. For newbies to Seven Deadly Sins it gives more questions than answers (maybe they want to lure them into watching the rest?), and for all who have seen both seasons there is nothing new. It's fun, and the story was okay, nothing more. I gave the movie a 6,5/10 overall, which is a 7/10 here on MAL. (for better comparison: I gave season 1 a 9,5/10 and season 2 an 8,5/10)

If you like Seven Deadly Sins, you can watch the movie, but it's not really necessary. If you haven't seen the anime series yet, better watch it first.

-Intro-

As a fan of the Seven Deadly Sins (manga/anime), I had to watch this movie and the 6-month wait was worth it!

Timeline/Plot = 6/10
The movie takes place in between the 2nd season. It's after Meliodas has regained his powers but before Gloxinias and Dolores's competition. This is because, well, Meliodas is very strong and Diane still has her pretty weak golems. The timeline is definitely not made clear in the movie which made me pause the movie, look it up on Google to no avail and made me feel a bit confused in trying to figure it out during 30 to 45 minutes of ... the movie.

There are multiple interesting new characters in the movie, my favorite being the main villain, Berlion. I also liked the villain group the Six Knights of Black with their powers.
It was said that they were comparable to the 10 commandments, but they were not. That made the lore/story a bit flunky but it is a movie so it's understandable.

-Art- 10/10
The art was beautiful and just like the 1st and 2nd season. The fight sequences were sometimes pretty short but had awesome art and it made me smile. The art made the environment look stunning as well. They added in a bit of fan service so to say and made an emphasis on boob-shots every now and then when hovering the camera over characters like Merlin and Diane, which simply made me laugh cause it's added as a bit of a joke.

-Sound- 10/10
The sound was amazing as always and they made fighting scenes very immersive. They used music at the right time and of course, used a few songs we all know and love, which made the movie even better.

-Characters- 8/10
I already mentioned the villain characters. What was a shame though was them being pretty weak and almost instantly losing Don't get me wrong, they looked awesome and interesting, but they didn't have a lot of story or cool-ness behind them, except for their leader. Berlion. I liked how he looked, acted and his motivation, which was a bit flat but still kind of enjoyable, to me at least.

-Enjoyment- 10/10

Not once did I feel like I was bored or skipped anything. Not once were the fight scenes disappointing. Not once was the music badly timed or just bad. It all fitted and made me laugh countless times like the seasons. As someone who draws, the art style pleased me as always and the attention to detail was amazing. I rewatched the fighting scenes and they were made without flaws.

As already stated I rate the movie overall 9/10. This is because of the flunky timeline representation + sometimes flat story of the demon knights. Those flaws were still overshadowed by the rest of the movie, which is 1.5 hours of pure enjoyment to the Seven Deadly Sins fans.

To be honest, if I was not a fan of Nanatsu no Taizai franchise, then I wouldn’t even have possibly given this movie a try. As excited I was to watch it, deep down I knew something major is going to happen that’s going to excite me a lot. While the excitement did manage to stay at the same level, many disappointments also appeared.

Story [7/10]

The synopsis isn’t currently updated by MAL Rewrite but when it’ll be done, it’ll probably not sound much interesting as the story isn’t that fascinating. Surely, some interesting facts and major revelations were done but the impact that a movie can ... give wasn’t much. The plot was written in a fast-pace due to which powerful fights had to cut short and end quickly. The story shows each Sin to be way powerful than they actually are making this look like One Punch Series where one just can’t be defeatable. Well, that’s that.

But I have to say, this movie coming out is quite a head start for all our excitements to pile up till when Season 3 will be announced. Thankful to a certain someone, we finally uncover the mystery of its existence and why it is so powerful. But after watching this movie, we might come to ask ourselves, “Was it actually necessary for this movie to be created just to show that?”. Well, maybe yes, maybe no. But still, I totally recommend watching this movie after you have completed season 2 because, without this story, we can easily rest assure and continue with Season 3.

Art [9/10]

A1-Pictures surely knows its business. The character art-style, monsters, backgrounds and moreover the Island itself is drawn in such a way that looks really amazing. If this is the case, then why I am giving it 9 out of 10? This is because of the main antagonist’s character sketch. While he sure was powerful enough to cause much damage, he looked exactly like Ban.
It was also a bit hilarious to see him fight with Ban at the end and it looked like twins are fighting with each other. Nonetheless, the rest was amazing.

Sound [7/10]

Not really sure what I should say here but I guess due to its amazing soundtrack, I can give it a 7 out of 10. The Sound has good pacing and is well made for each moment in the movie.

Character [6/10]

This movie has doppelgangers of Meliodas and Elizabeth making it look like they are actually important to the story when they are not so much. It looks a bit idiotic to add them here but I guess the author tried to go with something easy. Trust me, the new characters introduced here aren’t that important at all and seem like a complete joke in front of the seven deadly sins.

Enjoyment [8/10]

This is The Seven Deadly Sins Movie so of course, I get quite tremendous enjoyment from it. Each battle (even if it was short) was entertaining.

Overall [7/10]

This movie is totally extended, fights are kept to a minimum, strongest beasts are played like toys but still, the stretched plot gives us at least an excitement to keep hype for the Season 3. That’s all.

The idea for this movie is an outstanding one indeed. I think it's a good idea to go to place that isn't cannon so that they can make up their own rules for the island. I like the fact that they are descendants of the goddess clan and think the earth is overflowing with demons that every so often come to their island in the sky. Overall the execution could be a bit better, but since it is a movie and movies tend to suck I give it a pass.

Art: 9 ...
It's clean and simple nothing against it but it's nothing spectacular so a 9 is fitting.

Sound: 9
Same as the art nothing spectacular but great.

Characters: 9
Not counting the Seven deadly sins themselves, since they are the main cast we know and love from the manga, the new characters are great. Their designs are great in my opinion expect Galla. Salaad is an interesting character, I like his typical 'I have different views on rules than my father so I shall rebel and run away' which is cliche but it's done well so It doesn't bother me. I love the granny that keeps shoving the legend of OSHIRO SAMA down our throats.

Overeall: 8
It's a movie and there are a lot of power scaling things that make no sense, but it's not just the movie it's the series as a whole that has those issues so idk.

Final thoughts:
If you're a for of Nanatsu no tiaizai you should watch it cause at the end of the day it's more content ad it's just a fun watch

I just watched this anime on netflix at its release in my country.I enjoyed the last seasons but this is a original story by Nakaba Suzuki but its far away from the original.(By the way sorry for my bad enghlish).

At the final i liked the ultimate move but what they said was in enghlish in anime sometimes charecters say ok or something else but they normaly say nanatsu no taizai becuse its in japanese but at the final its the seven deadly sins this dosen't realy matter with my opinion but i whve to say it.My overall opinion is fair from what is said.

So, as far as I know, this movie doesn't have anything to do with the TV Series directly, in other words completely skippable. But, to understand the Movie it is good to have watched both seasons because they introduce all of the main characters.

Well, the story to me was pretty much mediocre. While I feel super excited watching the TV Anime, I didn't felt anything while watching this movie. Way too many plot holes, and a pretty forced situation overall. To me, most of what happened in the Movie was like designed just to fit in that situation and nothing else.

Some examples:

- Both movie main ... characters don't make any sense at all and were pretty much designed just to push the story to move forward.

- The whole first 30~40 minutes of the movie with the confusion was completely lackluster. So, any of them on the island can't feel any power? Can't they easily see some of the difference in facial features, personality and etc, at all!? That really bothered me.

- The "resurrection/broken seal" happened from nowhere. No explanation whatsoever. Characters just show up after they already figured out important stuff, without explanation again. To many coincidences, and even some situations doesn't make sense.

Anyways, in the end, it feels like to me this movie was pretty much something made "whatever" and they slapped the title of "Nanatsu no Taizai" in it. All the villains felt recycled from first and second seasons, nothing new that made any impact at all, other than the last one, that wasn't so great either.

Story = 5 (completely mediocre.)
Art = 8 (It's very good, nothing amazing though.)
Sound = 8 (Pretty good because most of what was used here came from the TV Series.)
Character = 5 (Both main movie character doesn't make sense and recycled villains.)
Enjoyment = 6 (Decent enough, I guess.)

Overall score = 6.4 (It's a decent "fair" score for a not "good" movie).

PS: This is my first review. I know I'm lacking with experience, so I made it short, but, I think I was able to pass how I felt with the movie.

I liked it yay! \o/

The best part: it's what a 7 deadly sins movie should be! We get the characters we know and love, see them in high detail with fancy animation beating up some bad guys! We get to see Diane being somewhat useful, more Escanort never hurts, a bit of Merlin action, wonderful! Soundtrack is fine, it's pretty hype, it's everything it needs to be!

What it isn't...

It isn't super much new, the sins win fairly easily, there isn't very much tension, the story is fairly predictable (but they try to make it interesting here and there), and there's not much new to the ... soundtrack. But it doesn't need to be!

You'll have to get over the fact that there are two characters who, for some reason, vaguely look like Meliodas & Elizabeth, and for some reason that confuses everyone. :D

But it's good fun, it's pretty, it tides you over until the next season airs. ^_^

Even though this anime movie was rated low I thought it was good.

Story-It was interesting I thought the lot was well written basically about meliodas and Hog get stuck in a celestial world which the demon clan try to takeover.9/10

Art-I loved the art style not disappointed at all even the fights were perfect and the celestial world was nicely designed and had good graphics.10/10

Sound-Decent sound track nothing fancy but worth it 8/10

Characters-Found some of the characters from the celestial world a bit annoying but everything else was ok 7/10

Well, before I start this review, I think it's important to point out that it's not particularly necessary to have watched the anime or readed the manga to watch this movie and understand what's happening. It was clearly made with that in mind, but yeah, you probably would end it with a thousand of questions floating on your head. The main problem with this kind of movies is that neither the fans and people who's not familiar with Nanatsu no Taizai would fully enjoy it. And that's what I want to discuss here.

If you're from that people who never watched the anime or readed the ... manga, as I said, you will understand the main plot, but everything is gonna feel so ridiculously forced and fake you're not gonna like it. You don't even know who the eff those people are and what they do, why they are together, why there is a princess with them, why they have those amazing and outstanding powers, what those powers are, why they are known as "seven deadly sins", what are those sins and why they have one of each, why Meliodas is so overpowered, why he's with the good guys if he's a demon... So I thing you got the point as the list goes on and on. And no. You're not an idiot for having these questions. You can't make a movie about such a long and complex story, with a side quest and expect to be working for people who doesn't know a sh*t about it. Just for the record, I highly suggest you to read the manga or, at least, watch the anime. It's so damn good and this movie is fine, but doesn't even get close to the real thing. So there you go.

Now, for us, people who have watched the anime and/or readed the whole manga and still does it because we love it, this is some sort of disappointing joke. It's... fine, but just that. That's why I hate these kind of movies. They could have made a canon movie with a part of the main story as a longer chapter of something like it. For example, Fullmetal Alchemist, the oldest anime series, made that. You watched the whole thing and then the end of the story was in the movie. And it worked so perfectly. When you don't wanna do that, you have to make a side quest that doesn't affect at all to the main story, which turns out to be a huge meh. They don't do anything important or relevant, they don't learn nothing, they ended exactly on the same spot as they started. So what was the point? Entertain? Well, I was entertained because I love the characters, but after twenty times of them repeating their names and that they are the seven deadly sins and all that, I was kind of bored. And when they FINALLY started fighting, it felt so poorly articulated and artificial. Usually I love how they combine their powers on the anime/manga and everything moves on so smoothly, but here was the opposite. And again, it's not bad, it's just mediocre and unnecessary.

So, about the rating...


STORY [7]:

After what I have said above, the plot was interesting to say at least. It amused me the idea of goddess' descendant living on the sky and fighting against the demons as well as the other clans on earth. The lore of celestians has hooked me since the beginning. Maybe that's just another reason why I felt disappointed on how everything went on later. But again, it wasn't bad at all. It was so funny to me that there were alternative versions of Meliodas and Elizabeth that were engaged. But again, it was a little wink to the fans and as sympathic as it felt, I can't help it feeling grumpy because of the canon. But whatever, besides of that, I liked the idea. The celestians were very well settled and they worked on this plot.

I almost forgot to mention the six black knights, which I loved them, but they felt very weak. Bellion was such a badass villian and it was the only thing on the whole movie that I'd take it as canon and I'd be glad to see/read more about him and his relationship with Meliodas in the past.


ART & SOUND [10]:

Not much to say here. The art was very similar to the anime and it's stunningly amazing. Same goes for the soundtracks. Some of the songs are taking from the anime (Perfect Time is one of them) and I can't say enough how much I like it.


CHARACTER [7]:

I don't want to talk about the sins, because I already said a few things before, so let's just talk about the original characters of this movie. They were fine. The grandma was absolutely my favorite since she was so blind in her believes never seeing the real thing even if it was happening right in front of her nose. She was hilarious. Nothing more to add. The rest of the characters were just fine and simply crafted, so I can't say much.


ENJOYMENT [8]:

This is the point when I'm confused and don't know exactly how to confront it. The movie was mediocre, it have lots of plot holes, mistakes, contradictions compared to the canon story and etcetera, but... it's still entertaining. I mean I watched it entirely without feeling the pass of the time, so it must mean something, right?


OVERALL [7]:

In conclusion, it's not a great movie. I wouldn't recommend it as the best thing I've ever watched and of course I'd never recommend it to people that's new to Nanatsu no Taizai. Go ahead and watch the anime, read the manga or do both, you'll enjoy it. But this movie it's not worth it really, except if you're hungry for more and tired of waiting for the next season. I think maybe this movie would fill that hole, at least for a little time. Or if you like Nanatsu no Taizai and you're just bored as hell, you can kill some time with this one. But don't expect something mindblowing and of course don't take it as canon, because it isn't.

Spoilers ahead, not that this movie was enjoyable.

If you enjoy 7 deadly sins, I would not watch this movie. This entire movie felt like an insult to my intelligence. The plot only moves because deus ex machina!!! For the first half of this movie there was a misunderstanding, but the god's decedents are too incompetent to notice. In this entire movie not a single celestial being was shown to be able to use "ARK", yet at the end of the movie all of them (including children) were shown able to use ARK and help seal away a giant monster. The head warrior was a total ... brick, the lion guy was an on going meme, and the tin can guy was useless. For bad guys that are rumored to be able to rival the ten commandments, they were trashed on and killed off in a 30min fight sequence. I also understand this is a movie, so they have a time constriction. It was dreadful sitting through this movie, the entire time I was wondering when it would end.

Fans of The Seven Deadly Sins tv series should support this movie so the creators know we want a season 3. Nothing else has been confirmed at this point so who knows if we will get any more.

I think this is worth watching if you love the series, it's pretty similar to season 2 but instead of the Ten Commandments it's the Six Knights of Black. They said the Six Knights of Black are about equal to the Ten Commandments but they didn't put up anywhere near the challenge besides 1.

The scenery of the world they are in looks better than ever, the world ... setting is beautiful and so is the animation. The fight scenes are top notch especially towards the end I was impressed.

I don't see much wrong with this movie it's about what I expected it to be. Don't expect the best movie of all time but a solid addition to the series.

The movie has parallels with the original story of the series. For example: Solada escapes from her home in search of a being who could save his home from demons. Similar to Elizabeth escaping from her home in search of the 7 Deadly Sins to save her from the overthrow of her kingdom. Giving an impression of not being very original in the premise. With a very simplistic, vague designs of villains and with personalities of any typical villain. Also, stretching unnecessary situations, noting that the producers of the film did not know what to do, such as, when Zoria confuses Meliodas with his son ... Solada no matter that Meliodas mentions that he is not his son and both have differents appearances, except for the face. In sounds, it used the same OST in the previous seasons. And what most stand out the movie is the animation, being very detailed and fluid during the scenes of fights and, at the same, time with mostly stable drawings without noticeable deformations in the scenes more focused on dialogues.

I really, really enjoyed it. If I was rating it based on enjoyment alone, 9/10, but if I had to place aside my bias for the seven deadly sins and rate it objectively, it would be 6/10. The plot was mediocre, the characters' motivations were weak or even never explained, the villains were disposable, a few plot holes here and there. But damn do they know how to choreograph the fights and build up hype. Every moment I was giddy with excitement, wanting to see Meliodas and the sins bring out the big guns. I wanted to watch one and a half hour of my ... beloved sins demolish some baddies and I got that. I mean if they were able to improve the character development and plot, maybe even humanize the villains, explore the rift between traditional and new thinking in the celestial realm, hell yeah it would have been great, but you know sometimes you just want to see some good ol beat downs. So if that's what you're looking for, especially if you don't feel like you've had enough after season 2, yeah go for it. But to anyone else, it might end up feeling lackluster.


Side notes (don't have to read, just some thoughts):
This movie really regained my respect for the franchise, especially after that shitshow of a season 2. I don't know what the hell happened to the animation, character development, pacing and overall directing in the second half of that season but it was handled very poorly to me. I think they adapted the manga panel by panel, which basically robbed them of the freedom to improve on the pacing (which made sense for the manga but not for the anime) and to change any weaknesses (too many flashbacks, unnecessary characters, unorganized separation of the sins, weak training arc, etc). The manga itself is kind of decreasing in quality too, from what I've read. Maybe the mangaka is rushing things, because the chapters that were adapted into season one were great.

Anyways, this movie demonstrated that the studio is fully capable of balancing the essential elements in an anime. I have high hopes for season 3.

This is one of the most boring movies I've ever watched. The plot is the total opposite of creativity and the comedy is non-existent. Everything is incredibly predictable and the characters are brain dead clichés that act stupid because otherwise the story just won't go the way it's supposed to.

I thought I would get some enjoyment out of the action/fight scenes but even the animation on those is poor.

Obviously the movie still has a redeeming quality: the soundtrack on this film is awesome so at least my ears got something out of this 1 hour and 40 minutes of visual boredom.

Overall, this movie ... gets a 3/10.

Great, there is a movie.
I was waiting towards this movie since I saw the trailer. Well, did it deliver? No, it left a lot to be desired for.
Story: The Sins are doing the usual thing, then suddenly Meliodas gets transported into the heaven or something, then Meliodas döppelganger named Solada appears. Everyone is confused about Solada since he looks like Meliodas. Everyone in heaven is also confused since Meliodas looks like Solada. Some random boring stuff happens, until some high ranking demons appear. For some stupid reason the demons leader hates Meliodas. They starts fighting and every demon dies except the leader Berlion. Shit happens ... and a big fucking monster appears who is defeated by friendship. Also Hawks mom is some legendary beast or something.
Characters: If you have seen Seven Deadly Sins you should know the characters. Everyone in this movie is forgettable so i'm not even gonna mention anyone.
Music is still the usual
Animation is good
Do I recommend? Depends. If you have 2 hours then go ahead.

I want to start this review off by saying that I love Seven Deadly Sins as a series. This show got me into anime back when it released in 2014. It was a fun show with an overpowered mc that was very easy to enjoy. I was so into the series as a whole that I read the manga because I wanted to see more of my favorite blonde demon and his crew. When I found out they made a movie I was excited to see more of the cast and some new and interesting characters fight it out against a new enemy. What I ... got was a lazy story with boring characters and villains.

I am writing this review just after watching the show because I was so frustrated with how awful the movie was.

Story: 1

There is hardly any story to talk about. This is basically just a weaker and boring version of the show itself. The villains themselves are forgettable remakes of the 10 commandments. Honestly that's a huge stretch for how pathetic and boring they were. There is very little that actually happens I found every part of the movie that didn't have a sin in it to be completely unwatchable. Everything felt very lazy and gimmicky.

Art: 8

It is your regular Seven Deadly Sins art with slightly heightened quality. It looks good. Fights were dope. Nuff Said.

Sound: 8

The soundtrack makes use of the music from the show with slight alterations. I will always enjoy this music.

Characters: 2

Anyone on the screen that isn't one of the sins is not worth watching. Skip them. Honestly some of the sins felt weak, like their lines were just thrown together to fit them into the movie. They didn't feel at all like their characters in the show. The non-villain characters in the show were so irrelevant that they are not even worth mentioning. The villains were just Walmart brand 10 commandments with no personality. They never posed a threat to even the weakest member of the sins. Their strength came from the writers finding a gimmicky way to keep any of the sins from 1 shotting them while having a causal conversation with each other. The only reason that number is a 2 is because the sins are still in the movie. ignoring all past characters I would give a rating of lower than 1 if I could to the point where i think they should not exist.

Enjoyment: 2

It gets a 2 only because of the pretty fights. I found myself clicking through anything that wasn't a fight because it lacked any importance and had no real weight. It was just bland and boring. Even though many of the fights themselves held no weight, they still look good.

Overall: 2

The great art and music can't save this movie from being a complete waste of time to watch. It felt like a quick way to release more sins content to capitalize on the popularity of the series. As with many shounen movies, there is no point to watching the movie. I'm not sure if it is canon. I hope to god its not canon. The sins are cool but feel lackluster. Meliodas is Meliodas and will always be sick. If you are a fan of the series just look up a $uicideboy$ amv of the fights. I promise that you will enjoy those more than this garbage.

Still an A-1 production, Prisoners of the Sky is unironically awesome. I'm not saying this in the sense that it's surprisingly good for T7DS standards, because I'm aware this franchise doesn't have an absolutely stellar reputation. No, I'm saying that I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it.

There is some debate as to whether or not it is canon, but regardless, it's a genuinely good story with spectacular action sakuga that I actually went back to rewatch. I didn't find myself checking the remaining runtime once, which is fairly rare with me when it comes to anime films. Even during the first act, the set-up was ... interesting and kept me excited.

<Potential Spoilers>
This is one of the more bizarre entries in the seven deadly sins anime.

I found this film to be painfully mediocre, with a narrative that is poorly paced and forced. Combined mediocre characters and soundtrack that is saved by its brilliant animation.

The story itself I found to be average, the story introduces a new race of people called the celestials who believe they are the only race left. An idea that contrasts the celestials from other races. The home of the celestials being linked to the narrative, protecting Oshiro's seal I found to be an ok goal. My problems with the narrative stem from ... the fact that the celestials are never seen or mentioned in the later seasons, and the time the film takes place in the show is vague.

The animation and art style are amazing, the earlier seasons of the seven deadly sins animated fights in such a way that the characters feel powerful and their attacks feel deadly. Characters move in a way that feels realistic and they blend in with the environment. The art style of the series remains consistent and is effective at portraying the mood of the series.

The soundtrack was not memorable and I only remembered the more intense soundtracks that were played during the fight scenes that were effective at emphasizing the intensity of the scenes. The voice acting was decent but all other areas in sound design were not memorable, there is simply nothing to say about it.

The interactions between Solaad and Elatte are the only new character concepts presented in the film. Character interactions are enjoyable but these are the only redeeming features of the characters. Characters don't experience any changes or experiences that would deeply affect their character.

While the first few seasons of seven deadly sins are enjoyable, this pattern is not reflected in this movie. The average story, sound, and characters are saved by the film's brilliant animation.

Overall, I rank this 6/10.
