Ofuu is a calm, gentle girl who works at a soba shop in a quiet village during the Edo period.
On the surface, she appears to be a kind and unassuming human — the "daughter" of the soba master — but it is later revealed that she is, in fact, a kijin, a type of demon who has chosen to live peacefully among humans.
She plays a pivotal role in one of the story's most emotionally resonant arcs, where a young samurai, Miura Naotsugu, arrives in search of his missing brother. Ofuu is deeply aware of the tension and pain Naotsugu carries. Despite being a demon, she shows kindness, restraint, and compassion, ultimately serving as a symbol of coexistence and inner peace.
Her presence forces both the samurai and the main protagonist, Jinta, to question their assumptions about vengeance, humanity, and morality. Her quiet strength and graceful acceptance challenge the cycle of hatred and violence, leaving a lasting emotional impact on those around her.
