i recently watched this as i'm getting into the .hack series atm and i gotta say i was absolutely stunned by how beautiful and emotionally resonant this show was
the characters were really well-written imo, the story was really interesting and intriguing, the music was out of this world (seriously, it's one of the best anime osts i've ever heard), and the ending, albeit a little anti-climactic at the end, had me in tears seeing the characters i've grown to love come to their emotional conclusions
absolutely a beautiful show, one of my favorite character dramas ever

great show, and .hack//Infection is great so far as well!

I thought it was a solid psychological drama, but it's definitely not for everyone. The pacing could put many viewers off, although I did like most of the characters, the ost, and the visuals. It's a very atmospheric series, which I enjoyed. Has a "dream-like" feel to it. I feel that maybe if the series was shorter or was a movie, it would have been more well-received.

It's way better than .Hack//Roots. Holy shit, that show was like watching paint dry.

.hack does have decent visuals but story wise its just another battle shonen isekai.

.Hack//Sign isn't a battle shounen whatsoever. In fact, it has very few action scenes. .Hack//Signs was much more of a mystery/psychological drama than an action series.

It is for everyone that watches. I Bear with it because it is very well written but I totally understand you. I watch it 2x speed. I notice the ending song of Hack/Signs sounds like EYEWITNESS opening them LOL YAY remind us of school after a slow pace episode.

watched the anime like years ago so might give it a rewatch now that i've changed quite a bit. although it probably won't be high on my priorities, i might come back and give an update in the future.

yeah, I think this show is extremely underrated because most people are impatient and don't like massive amounts of dialogue.

It's got some characters better written than a lot of literature. I'm giving it a rewatch (I first saw it dubbed roughly 20 years ago) and it's infinitely better than I remembered, although maybe that's because this time I'm watching it subtitled. I like the shots emphasizing facial expression and how the show focuses on interaction and makes the characters feel real. I know a lot of people in life who I saw reflected in these characters. I know a lot of Bears, some Mimirus, I've met some BTs and even some Soras. It's a signifier of good art when you can see a convincing portrayal of life in a work.

And the intelligence and thought going into the conversations about psychology, society and philosophy really are great. It reminds me of conversations I used to have with people before social media got big. People today are living too fast to think too deeply about a lot of these issues, in my experience at least. It's a nice throwback to a slower, more thoughtful time.

I agree exactly with what OP said.

As for the pacing, it is actually good if you know what you are watching it for. I realized that, what felt like every scene (surely not every frame) had something important in it. Granted, not every scene was truly important, but while I watched it you could sense the gradual changing of a character's development.

It is a really good isekai, in the broad sense of isekai I mean ("another world"), because the show managed to get me interested in literally "The World" (the game) and I could understand how those mmorpg players were so immersed into it.

I remember reading a comment recently and it basically described the show as being about the players who play mmorpgs, and I think that is a spot on comment. It isn't primarily about the game itself or the "isekai" part of it, but instead it's primarily about the types of players who play 'The World" and for what reasons. The lightly touched side stories were I think almost just as interesting as the main story.
