Do you see episode or season length changing?

Even though the dominant release for seasons is 11-13 episodes and 23-24m each, do you see this changing at all? Frieren having 10 episodes and medalist having 9 episodes definitely a bit disappointing, but I am sure they did it for good reasons. The first season of frieren having 28 episodes was a surprise, with how good it was. They seemed to be given a lot of freedom and time to finish and adapt a lot, without the burden other studios face. It now seems so rare to see a show have more then 13 episodes, as the pace of releases needs to be faster to compete in the market as popularity has increased.

We hear a lot about how poor work conditions are for the teams, and how little they are paid for work. I could see a future, where shows are even more rushed and given so little time to finish they can do even less. It kind of feels like we might be close to a tipping point, where shows will cut too much content or the quality will decrease too much.

I sure hope quality doesn't drop more than it already is.

it all depends on how much money there is in a project, frieren has a lot of yen so it makes sense that the anime will turn out great

the more that streaming platforms take over the industry, the more likely this is to occur... no longer needs to fit into a broadcasting schedule

This. They can now pitch and order exactly as much footage as they can afford and/or as much as the story needs.

It's much harder to tell if the majority of anime watchers want shorter or longer seasons/episodes. I don't really see much complaining about an anime being too short or too long, but I haven't been looking that closely...

I don't think the format of the season will affect the working conditions that much. Regardless of how long a season is, somebody at the studio will still be planning who works on what when, and they'll still cram the schedule to the absolute maximum capacity (and beyond). Basically the same as right now.

I doubt it because broadcasting seasons and time slots are standardized, much to the detriment of artistic flexibility.

Episode/Season length will always be random, as it dictates what is adapted. While anime is usually 11-13 like u said, the content of the source material is what determines that. Most series aim to stop at good moments so that they can test their audience to see if they want more.

It won't be changing, but will simply "depend" on the series. Sum like Takopi's Original Sin was only 6. WHY? Bc its a short series. Like I said it depends on the series. Tho, the anime industry is struggling so you'll never know what it looks like in the next 50 years.

All we can hope is that they stick with this current release schedule and fix their overworking conditions and the terrible planning by production committee's to just aim to adapt series without being able to bring it's maximum capacity out of a adaptation.

As long as anime will be broadcast on TV, most of them will keep having the standard amount of episodes (1-2 cours, each cour made of 11-13 episodes). ONAs don't have the same constraints, they can have different amounts of episodes and also longer ones (like 28-30 mins).

When you see an irregulal amount of episodes in a TV anime, it's usually a sign that the people working on it care about making a good adaptation of the source material, instead of either rushing it or slowing it down too much. You mentioned Frieren and Medalist, but there's also the currently airing Gnosia which should have 21 episodes.
