I'm an idiot I completely forgot the series synopsis for this. The Marduk are controlling Zentradi through songs and they're a different species altogether but still has the same humanoid appearance. Or is it really just that superficial? This reeks of Protoculture again. Or maybe not. >_<

I find Hibiki and Ishtar's confrontation with Sylvie aboard the old Macross corny.
You see there's no need to wonder where your god is,
Coz he's right here! ...and he's fresh out of mercy.

Most of this has been corny if you ask me.
"Yes, I have been deprived of emotion. But not completely. Whoever did it, botched the job."

OK... I guess I can see the hommage to several Macross TV/movie 's scenes (ennemy trying to capture pilot/idol during a sortie, pilot/singer/military triangle although this doesn't seem really like a love triangle so far). I also sense good ideas to explore like the masses / media control by the military and interesting parallels to the original (here, the Marduk enslave through music while the humanity military now only relies on music) BUT:
- are they really trying to do something with all of this?
- this was the ugliest anniversary product I have ever seen. Only a few close-up shots were nicely drawn while every character at mid-range or far away was ranging from ugly to an horrible puppet/ant.

So Hibiki is trying to fulfill Kaifun's role now or what? Exposing the military, etc. The music during the festival felt badly mixed, it was hard to hear it properly.

The talk on the bridge was pretty cheesy, Sylvie was like "well I ain't gonna take Ishtar away now but I'll do it later, fine". What's her reasoning? Some pretentious compassion?
