They should incorporate some of the other characters from the original series by now tbh. It's not as dramatic as it has been so far.

Loving how this series seems to have a strong message behind smartly put together ''mundane'' events so far. I think this episode was a prime example of that, with it being more about learning to let go of the people (or pets who walk on their hind legs) you love and letting them have their space without constricting them with always having to be with you.

To anyone who may be watching this in the future, if you could explain to me what happened in this episode, and why there was a random scene where they were tripping on acid, it would be much appreciated.

I know it's been a while but I just finished that episode and my conclusion was essentially that girls had a fight with each other in the past, one has drowned (hence the scene with cellphone in the water), other one (who probably was responsible in some way) couldn't bear it and ended herself ("vanished from the city") and whole episode is Rentarou's memory of it, with acid trip scene being attempt to suppress and escape those bad memories because he can't let it go.

That's just my interpretation, though.

@Jetter_Mars That doesn't exactly make sense, since the girls could also see and communicate with Mai.

@BlueMoonTornado what exactly makes sense on the show? I felt like narrative structure was pretty non-sequitur. Like there's never 100% chance that certain story events were actually established as real, but rather presented as a memory from somebody else's perspective. They just took that "fever dream" idea to next level in this episode, I guess.
