Confused, would like some insight before I watch.

I want to watch this, but it's kind of difficult to understand for me. Does this take place after R2 and I've noticed in some of the PV's for Ep.2 and Ep.3 that we see a decked-out Lelouch/Zero. So, did he not die in the end of R2 or was he what most of us believe, the dude with the wagon?
