One day will mainstream or hyped anime be the only anime available? Is the industry headed this way?

Will battle Shonen and other hyped series be the only anime available in the near future? Is the industry going to shift to catering only to the fans with tunnel vision? In other words newer anime fans who view anime through a peephole. All the see is Demon Slayer, JJK, Solo Leveling, or whatever shows are popular and hyped while overlooking the larger catalogue of diverse shows available to enjoy. Thus the anime industry caters only to these fans because that is where the money is. Everything that's popular gets all the attention and support while other good (niche) anime series fall by the wayside.

I just wonder about some fans these days because it's silly how newer anime fans disregard other anime series and don't even consider them anime even though they are. Like everyone without a brain will be talking nonstop about One Piece and Demon Slayer, then you mention (just random examples) Anohana, Parasyte, or Noragami and they think you're weird. It's like some of these people have brains the size of peas. Why do they easily shoot down series that aren't at the forefront of popularity?

How would you feel about all new shows one day just being hyped up mainstream stuff? Even if that were the case there would still be plenty of older shows from the vast sea of anime to enjoy.

Uhm....how is this any different from any other period of anime history? When the Big 3 was popular, that was largely what most casual fans talked about, the Toonami generation had their series they only talked about too.

While true, those niche shows literally wouldn't exist, if they didn't make any profit. If anything, I think anime fans today watch a more varied amount of shows than they used to, or at least willing to, the biggest hurdle, is more the recency bias, and need for socialization that a lot of fans have.

One Piece came out 28 years ago......how can you use it as an example of a new trend, frankly most OP fans, are older fans like me, who have been watching/reading the series for a long time. Your average OP fan is either quite well watched/read or literally only cares about OP and maybe a few select battle shonen, and doesn't care about anime beyond that anyway.

Parasyte is #43 in popularity, on this site, it's not a niche show in the slightest. If you are just talking about casual convos with people IRL, sure a lot of them largely care about popular action shonen, however, works like Frieren and SxF don't fit neatly into that category too, and are extremely popular, and I have had casual convos with people in my other hobbies, and they have brought up shows like Ergo Proxy as one of their favourites....it's not unusual.

Niche works still get made...popular shows still dominate..again that's observable in every era.

No. If anything we're probably gonna see more passion projects like Bâan in the future and also new studios that gets formed by people who don't want to work on the popular mainstream shows

Besides that, there are series which are popular or mainstream without being battle shōnen (Frieren, Makeine, Takopi's original sin etc.) not all people like one genre, so there will always be an audience for other genres. Also, popularity generates the most discussion, so it makes sense why you see so many people talking about it. It's not that different from the big 3 back then.

While I agree that disregarding something without watching it's not good, sometimes it's easy to tell if you will like something or not. For example, I skip most romance anime because I find them boring. If someone wants to go beyond the popular stuff, it is up to them. Mainstream anime alone don't offer enough content anyway, unless you care for like three or four genres or if you are casual. Also, Parasyte was never niche and one piece has been airing for almost 30 years. It had more than enough time to attract viewers and maintain popularity.

no, it's not. it's somewhat ironic when you talk about "fans with tunnelvision" and "brains the size of peas" yet you don't see what is actually going on in the industry or take 5 seconds to really think about what it is you are saying.

No.

Just because one type of anime is arguably more popular does not mean it will be the only type of anime created. There are different demographics of anime consumers, with different interests and different requirements. There will always be demand for those different types of show. Now, get into the creative side of things, and ask yourself would every anime writer or artist restrict themselves to that type of anime? What if they personally didn't care for it?

If something's popular, we might see a few more attempts at those successful formulas in the marketplace, but not to the extent that you'd suggest. This season, we got like 60-70 new titles and how many of them were honestly Battle Shounen?

Just because pop music is the most accessible, mainstream and popular genre of music, doesn't mean that every music listener is after the same thing, nor that it's the only type of music that musicians are creating.
