| Uhm....how is this any different from any other period of anime history? When the Big 3 was popular, that was largely what most casual fans talked about, the Toonami generation had their series they only talked about too. fallout45 said: While true, those niche shows literally wouldn't exist, if they didn't make any profit. Niche works still get made...popular shows still dominate..again that's observable in every era. |

Is the industry headed this way? no, it's not. it's somewhat ironic when you talk about "fans with tunnelvision" and "brains the size of peas" yet you don't see what is actually going on in the industry or take 5 seconds to really think about what it is you are saying. |
| No. Just because one type of anime is arguably more popular does not mean it will be the only type of anime created. There are different demographics of anime consumers, with different interests and different requirements. There will always be demand for those different types of show. Now, get into the creative side of things, and ask yourself would every anime writer or artist restrict themselves to that type of anime? What if they personally didn't care for it? If something's popular, we might see a few more attempts at those successful formulas in the marketplace, but not to the extent that you'd suggest. This season, we got like 60-70 new titles and how many of them were honestly Battle Shounen? Just because pop music is the most accessible, mainstream and popular genre of music, doesn't mean that every music listener is after the same thing, nor that it's the only type of music that musicians are creating. |
