A more storytelling about Vash and his life. Honestly, this episode was important to know his home. Plus, there's Jessica, another important character with a role that involves getting Vash back on track.

Even though it still feels familiar, but the world fiction of this anime impresses me. The music of this season is also so underrated.

Wow, the 3DCG is impressive as usual. Japan does have the capability to produce a good 3DCG after all, yet why other anime that use 3DCG doesn't have a result as good as Trigun...

I love how Hoppered treat Vash as a replacement for his girlfriend. Vash is a good girlfriend material.

Regarding a change in Knives's voice actor, it's kinda miss opportunity that the casting director didn't use this chance to cast the original Knives voice actor from 1998 version, which is Toru Furusawa. Toru actually does voice for this remake, not as Knives, but as a radio DJ. But to be clear, I've no doubt that the new Knives voice actor, Ryuji Sato, will do a good job. It's actually his first major role in anime voice acting.

I had a real hard time understanding anything from this episode.
I got it when they showed Hoppered's flashbacks, but, up until that point, I didn't really care what was happening.
For me, that was basically the moment I met the character, so his death almost immediately afterwards didn't hit me emotionally as much as it should.
My only question about the plot is: Is Jessica someone we've met before in this adaptation? I don't think so...
At least Vash knows her, which does help a little in caring about her, yet I still couldn't help but think of both Hoppered and Jessica as background characters I know nothing about, in turn making the fight feel insignificant (until the flashbacks).
Btw, at first, I thought Hoppered was Rollo, which would've been an interesting twist... And then I remembered he died in the same episode we met him...
(They are very similar though, you can't deny...)

Poor Hoppered lost Eriks in the July incident and still found it in his heart to treat Vash. Hoppered was a good man RIP.

Now that Vash is back in action his old friend Jessica has started his new adventure of the mystery with Knives being alive.

It's hilarious how Meryl hit Wolfwood but hey the gang is getting back together for another adventure with Milly too.

It was an ok start, despite the retcons. I'm still trying to understand why they removed Lina from the story. Her appearing in the Stampede post-credits scene only to then pretend she never existed bothers me a lot. Vash also lost his prosthetic arm during his fight against Knives, deciding to keep it for the sake of the plot was incredibly lazy. I liked what they did with Hoppered, but I wish he had remained a legitimate member of the Gung-ho-Guns. He could have found Vash's whereabouts after Lost July and tried to get revenge on him by kidnapping Lina... but oh well, whatever.

What happened with the opening?
On Crunchyroll at least a lot of it is still frames now.
Was there like a seizure outbreak from it last week or something making them tone down the motion/any flashing lights etc?

Ehhhhh I really don't like the retconned Lina out of the story, I was hoping she'd reappear.

I'm guessing that they changed their original plans for the plot they had during Stampede, and she didn't fit there, but it's still bothering me a lot.

Tragic for the big guy but with that Vash is back. Continuing to live, cursed to live. Also someone's sure excited to meet him. Can't wait for Meryl and Vash to reunite. Nicholas is here as well.

I'm having a hard time recalling who Jessica is. This episode didn't help too.

That aside, I did feel bad for Hoppered, but if there was a way to bring Vash back.. it was this and this itself. At this point, everything has been quite interchanged, so I'm not sure where we'd end up going ahead, but hey, the gang is coming back again at least xD

Slightly better directing, nice tragic music, but still utter slop with no real plot, cheap with and no substance. "And not a single lesson was learned that day"

Also frigging removed Lina and he magically has his arm again..? Actually scratch that about the better directing this episode, because of said retcon, the story and directing is still utter shite. Still can't fathom how people say this garbage is closer to the original manga when they literally changed all the characters, style, tone and events to some emo zoomer shit, with half assed cgi to boot.

Well that was a heavy way to illustrate how much of a typhoon Vash truly is. At least the big guy doesn't have to struggle so much just to breathe anymore.

I also saw the few frames stopped during the opening. This and lack of animation quality that first season had, made me think if maybe the streaming services did not set the framerate right for this season? Who knows, maybe even the quality is the same as the first season, but we will only see it once the BD disc is released.
Anyway, I do not know who both Jessica and Hoppered (RIP) are, did they appear during first season?

A step up from the last episode. Depressed or not, Vash looks infinitely better without the shitty zoomer cut.

Beautiful episode in every aspect. It might be one of my favorite ones from the Trigun reboot.

So it was neither Meryl nor Jessica that led Vash to regain his memory. It was Hoppered. Very good and unexpected turn of events. I liked his last battle. It's a shame that he really wanted his existence to cease, no matter the reasons. :( Rest in peace, Hoppered. His life was truly tragic, although Vash having to keep on living with the sin of basically leading to wiping out the whole July city and its population? Well, it can be indeed even harsher reality to digest, indeed.

Oh, and I like Jessica. She seems to be a friendly kid that's willing to help those in need. Also, I thought she might have been someone from the space fleet who took a small ship in order to get to the person named Vash as fast as possible, lol. Jessica coming from No Man's Land planet sounds more logical, though. I can't see how, without the magic of extra rebooted content, that ship would have had Vash's precise location. Nice to know that she is actually someone who knows Vash.

Well, Meryl bumping into Wolfwood (like, literally) was kind of goofy, but not gonna lie, I smirked. ;p

@gorkthe134th I think Hoppered was handled okay but while I like Jessica's design...I'm asking the same thing. I know we didn't meet Milly she is just there. My main issue right now is that it is just introducing characters expecting you to know them.

@MasterHavik A good point. It would be nice if we could spend some time developing the characters a bit. I know who Millie is, but if you have not seen the original series, then it would seem jarring to get no introduction.

@RedMoonProject I mean I'm thankful I saw the OG series when it was on TV as a kid. I'm little mad the dub will be delayed as we don't get to hear Johnny Young Bosch as Vash. I hope they get Milly's old English VA like they did for Meryl. I will say this it is nice to see her have a new look. It is true to the original while not trying to do too much. She looks like a journalist more.

I'm starting to understand why the MAL score is so low. This installment doesn't vibe with me either. It starts with the OP, which is a good song but works with neither the original material nor the style the reboot established (ED is perfectly fine though). Narrative-wise this is a botched start into a season, even if the events are good and important, Millie's introduction was too handwavy, Jessica is a foreign body inserted to contaminate the original characters' dynamics and the events neither anchor in old viewers or Stampede viewers nor do they hook in potential new ones. Zazie is reintroduced in a scene that doesn't really make a lot of sense for the entire story and seems mostly inconsequential. Him and that wreck seem to have disappeared into a rift after the first episode and seem to no longer be talked about. Hopper was likeable and good and didn't overstay his welcome, even though it all feels a bit copy and pasty generic. His flashbacks serve to give us an idea what has happened in the meantime, which makes him one of the best decisions. Wolfwood is also back now, well we'll have to see if they manage to tie it together. I don't think a lot of people will stick through with it in such a stacked season and I'm only hanging on by a thread myself.

First thing I noticed is the size of Milly's "stun-gun" not sure how big it is in the manga.. I just watched the intro from the broadcast in '98 and her gun was about the same size as in Stargaze, in the final release of the OP they made her gun almost twice the size lol

This episode was REALLY hard to watch.
Why did they make Jessica act like a self insert /OC/ Y/N who doesn't fcking fit with the whole situation???
Also why did that whole hoppered's situation happen??? There was no reason for him to do that, and of course his death wouldn't cause any pity, we literally just met him! The whole episode's plot felt so forced, I ended up with gastritis because of stress. 0/10 πŸ‘ŽπŸ»

@phantomfandom This was a better directed episode that showed off the usual beauty we say in S1, but I still believe Jessica and the new Reporter(except Eriks and the Disabled dude) had bad CD. Ep 1 looked rough so for now it's been 50/50
