in what context do you get most of your work done?, where do you have to be? what hour of the day? are you snacking on something? aside for being in the mood for it of course.

in about 14 months, i will be a NEET, which means i wont be going to school or having to work to live, so ill have alllll the time in the world to do whatever i want, when i want. i might even try this sleep cycle where im awake for 32 hours and sleep for 16. so i wont have any trouble finding the time to do things.

i will also be taking ritalin at this time, so i dont think i should be having trouble focusing.

Its not a magic pill. You still need discipline, which you don't seem to have. Fix that shit, or else all you're doing is giving it a bad stigma, which makes it harder for people who actually need it to have it prescribed.

Being productive especially in the longer run is about discipline and consistency. If I want something done I do it even if I am not motivated at that moment, that is part of what being disciplined is about; you do things even if you don't want to because you understand it is important and is better for you in the long run. So don't fall into the trap of only completing/starting a task when you are motivated. Do it because it has been done.

In terms of timing. I would start the most important tasks in the morning. Postponing it later in the day tends (at least for me) to open up the problem of procrastinating. If I don't do the important thing then it is likely I get distracted with this or that and before I know it the day is done and I have nothing to show for myself. Getting important tasks out the way early avoids such problems from developing.

To put this to life if my thing was coding I would get out of bed, sort myself out, and immediately start working on coding. I would allocate a specific time of day and say this is my golden coding window and stick to this. If friends call I will say I have work do and suggest meeting up later. It doesn't have to be all day maybe it is only an hour or two but the point is you block a part of the day and focus on that activity.

Over time that one or two hour period will make a big difference and you will be significantly more proficient in that task if you do this for six months +. Sure it is not easy and life has a way of interfering with such plans but the thing is you have a plan, you execute it. Don't think and think about what is best. Just do it! If there are any issues when you start a project you can adjust accordingly but the point is you make a start.

If there is some event that forces you to deviant from the normal plan you either anticipate such events so you adjust the normal pattern for that event or you compensate by pushing that work period into a later part of the day.
