I have my export file, trying to import it to anime planet or anilist is not working. It says something along the lines of “this file is not a valid my anime list export file”. This is the case with both compressed .gz and the unzipped file, so I basically can’t back up my list on another site. I checked multiple sites so I don’t think it’s an issue with the site I’m importing it on, but a problem with the export file somehow. I appreciate any help, TIA.

Yep.

The import/export feature is generally done through xml files, which contains infos from the database that the site will parse to know what to add/delete to your datas. However, every site has a different structure, so unless they go extra lengths to parse all files, the one you get from a site won't work on another one.

You can search for online convertors for the xml from MAL to the site you want, or just manually add your entries; you don't have that much entries in your lists, and the splitting of franchises are not necessarily the same on another site, anyway.

@Alexioos95 I ended up figuring it out. Yea for some reason exporting from MAL itself won’t work, gave up on that. I went to the MAL scraper website, and then I just had to compress the xml I got from there and it worked fine. I just didn’t feel like spending the next half hour to hour manually inputing my list I guess. Thanks for the help.
