By the 20s, AAA sakuga mundane shows had almost disappeared?

I recently decided to watch some anime from the 2000s and 2010s that I'd missed, like ToraDora and Chunnibyo, and I was suddenly struck by some idea. Have you noticed that at some point, AAA realistic SoL anime without any action, fantasy, or affiliation with an entertaining multimedia franchise disappeared for a very long time? Do you agree, and if so, why? Last year, they seemed to have made a comeback with shows like Losing Heroines and Russian Alya, but it seems there are still almost no of them left compared to their peak 15 or 20 years ago. At one point, I also wanted to remember AAA CGDCTs like Yuru Camp or NNB, but if we're talking specifically about expensive sakuga shows with a budget on the level of KyoAni, their number has also decreased until 2025 with auteur shows like CITY. Is it really true that in this day and age only iconic action/fantasy or multimedia shows with music and moe can get AAA production?

It's understandable, the number of animators is limited and even less so when it comes to good animators and the best ones are always scooped up the biggest studios.

I'm not even sure what this post is exactly trying to say. first you are talking about sakuga, then you are talking about production costs, then you are talking about realistic artstyles... none of those things are inherently related.

I can only assume that what you are actually trying to say is "there are no more well-animated shows with a realistic style that aren't fantasy and/or action", and that I cannot agree with.

there absolutely are shows that are realistic and well-animated: Oshi no Ko being one example. there was this one shot in season 2 of Akane sitting down next to Aqua, and people were half-joking how that entire 1.5-second sequence had more frames than the entirety of Blue Lock Season 2. there is also Sono Bisque, Bunny Girl Senpai and Kaoru Hana. I haven't watched the latter yet, but at least the promo material makes it look high quality.

in regards to the "budget" thing, I think that one is less relevant than you might think. what's important are the right people in the right positions and then giving those people the time to do their job.
