Sometimes you need a cute little manga with no specific plot and wholesome enough to make you want more. This is the one. There's absolutely no way you'll hate this.

The art is normal I'd say, not super good because it's a simple manga but enough to appreciate the content.

The mc is a smooth, chad, little man of culture. You won't find anybody else like him. The maid is cute and her reactions to mc's verbal attacks are even cuter. The interaction between them, the cluelessness and awkwardness that comes from it and the overall mood make it the perfect Sunday afternoon manga. So go and ... learn how to be the perfect gentleman chad.

At the time of writing this I've only read volume 1, and like most manga the first volume sets up the plot and introduces the characters and jokes, making them the slowest and worst volumes in my experience, so keep that in mind here. As I read more volumes I'll probably come back and update my review if my opinion changes.

So, Saikin Yatotta Maid ga Ayashii is a pretty standard slice of life comedy about a shota who "confronts" his cute maid with terrible social skills. Each chapter presents a new situation in which Yurri, the mc, gets suspicious of Lilith, confronts her, ... and gets teased only for him to take it seriously. This happens in EVERY. SINGLE. CHAPTER in the first volume, with the exception of the final chapter of volume one. The chapters creates an overarching story however, and some more variety gets introduced towards chapter 9.

Overall, it is very wholesome and cute, but relies heavily on the same joke for the first volume, and with the mc's terrible social skills and kid world view it can get a bit much.

Would I recommend it? Yeah, it's pretty entertaining, Lilith oozes with Ara Ara energy when she teases Yurri, and I could see the story becoming more mature and rich as it continues, which is something I personally think is important. Volume one however was very much episodic so to speak, fairly repetitive, and the mc can get a bit much. Read the first volume or two and see if you like what it's offering, but if you are looking for a deep story, full of cute romance and character development from the get go, this isn't it chief.

Finally, if you like good art, this manga has got some good art. It's nothing fantastic, but the mangaka has done a great job at creating clean looking art, with a amazingly cute facial expressions and a fantastic use of colour for Lilith's eyes, sound effects, and shading. Some simpler panels looks off when they're next to the more detailed ones, but overall the art is cohesive and a visual treat if you enjoy the simpler things in life.

Saikin Yatotta Maid ga Ayashii is yet another boring work from Wakame Konbu. It follows the main characters Yuuri and Lilith getting themselves into a near-copy of the same situation every chapter, creating a very boring experience. What’s this situation? Well:
1. Yuuri accuses Lilith of attempting to kill him
2. Lilith either teases him or plays along
3. Yuuri calls Lilith cute when trying to explain why she may be evil
4. She blushes.
It’s a pretty rigid formula, as each chapter is about four pages, the same number of steps listed above. While this formula may sound cute, it unfortunately, doesn’t change at all.

Something different about how this ... manga handles this formula is the reader being able to see the two grow closer slightly every chapter. I say slightly because it’s hardly noticeable unless you’re constantly comparing the most recent chapter to the one that was at least 15 chapters before. While yes, this subtleness in writing can be considered good writing and helps separate it from the other manga of the same archetype, it still doesn’t change how this is written. Outside of the words changing a small bit, I say this once again, the interactions don’t.

The manga also features some decent art. Everything about it is very simple and minimalistic, frequently using solid colours and focusing more on monochromaticity rather than shading. The characters are easy to tell apart from the background (sometimes lack thereof) and the use of purple on Lilith’s eyes is nice.

So overall, it’s not worth a read. It can get immensely boring through its repetitiveness, even if it sounds cute. If you are extremely into fluffy kinds of work, you may actually like this manga, but otherwise, I don’t think you would.
