A taciturn brown-haired uke who keeps his feelings close to his chest is slowly melting under the constant care and affection from his black-haired senpai in the workplace....
Yeah on paper this is basically Doushitemo Furetakunai for Gen Z.
But given that uncanny similarity, the story actually takes a VERY different direction to its narrative. And that's good.
The narrative doesn't concern itself with tropes and drama and instead centers the story around the two main characters. I like both of them; they feel real and nuanced, like the kind of people you can actually meet in your workplace. I particularly enjoy the seme who, despite not being
...
portrayed to be all dependable and dominant and whatnot, is nevertheless a very good senpai and a very steady presence in the uke's life.
Compared to the Webtoon CEOs, I feel like someone like the seme does and can exist in real life. That's dangerous for my fantasy goddammit.
The uke himself is also nicely written. Some people hates him for his unrelentless promiscuity, and I do think that important aspect of him doesn't get explored in the narrative beyond "it's bothersome", but for me his growth and evolution feels very natural and believable.
I'll also make the same case for the romance itself. Some people commented the seemingly rushed pacing and lack of buildup, and I -can- see it being interpreted that way, but for me it's not necessarily that. I see the relationship between them as one thatis not the kind that's ignited with grand romantic gestures and anguished self-reflection (see: the aforementioned Doushitemo Furetakunai).
Their relationship is quiet, ordinary, more fumbling in awkwardness than anything dramatic. It's like that before they go out and it's exactly like that after.
To me this is the main draw of the story; not a dramatic overture, but a simple, ordinary melody that keeps going and gliding.
I just wish the uke's FWB got his happy ending. Their breakup is well-written and I love that he's the one ending things, but yeah...he deserves a happy ending.
