Since no one have yet to made a review on "Wanna Skip School in the Infirmary?", I'll do it first.
About the story:
It’s nothing too out of the ordinary — a lighthearted slice-of-life with a few funny moments and not much drama. We follow a high school girl who’s always forced herself to smile to please others, slowly starting to understand herself better and do things for her own sake. At the same time, she starts interacting with — and falling for — the school nurse, who ends up being the main catalyst for her growth.
About the art:
To put it simple, its gorgeous. Not only
...
are the characters super cute, but Hibiki-sensei’s way of drawing their expressions never fails to get the emotions across. It made me laugh, and sometimes even feel excited, cheering for the characters.
About the characters:
The cast isn’t very big, and the story always keeps its focus on the main couple, without paying much attention to side stories or secondary characters. Even so, I felt like things moved a bit too fast. Sure, the protagonist, Miyake, is extremely likable, but the school nurse wasn’t very well developed — she stayed apathetic and “mysterious” for too long and then suddenly changed in a way that felt rushed and even forced in the final chapters. That’s also where the story as a whole started to fall apart, which brings us to the next point.
The elephant in the room:
In the last two chapters, 15 and 16, anyone can tell how rushed everything got. I’m not new to Hibiki-sensei’s works — quite the opposite, I’ve read most of them — and I know she’s not the type to end a story so abruptly. My guess is that the series was canceled and she was given a deadline to wrap it up. The fact that those final chapters weren’t even compiled into a volume kind of supports that. The consequences for the plot are obvious: a rushed, unsatisfying, forced ending that leaves a bitter taste after what could’ve been a perfectly sweet and fun story.
My Personal Rating: 5/10 (6 or even a 7 without that rushed ending)
