Ultrabaroque Deprogrammer is a series that takes a very complex topic for the plot and executes it brilliantly. The story was tight and constant with amazing insights into brainwashing and how human beings think. The use of symbolism is pretty much visible from the mention of the Tower of Babel and St. Augustine both of which play a great role in understanding a lot of things. The strong point of the manga would be how it depicted the complex working of minds and expands the lore of brainwashing better than the likes of Inception. The characters did need a bit of more seriousness and improved ... writing but they did serve well to the story nonetheless. Now let's talk about the thing that I avoided up until now "Art", it is the weakest part of the manga which might make a lot of people drop it after a few pages, especially the character art, it looks very weird at times almost like characters have some kind of genetic deformity like Down Syndrome, but also, at times the page spreads look magical too and it uses page spreads a lot which is understandable with such plot. I would say if you can look past the art initially then this series has a lot to offer from its lore about the human brain to how easy it is to get manipulated but above all it uses a few hard psychological evidences and theories to expand on it. Just to clarify what the reviewer above said the manga is most definitely completed but it does leave some space for a sequel.

Overall if I have to rate each aspect as below:
Plot/Concept = 9
Story = 8.5
Characters = 7.5
Art = 6 : Page spreads = 8, Character Art = 4

Final Rating = 8

Firstly, Ultrabaroque Deprogammer (I'll shorten it as UBDP) is an incomplete manga. It isn't a closed story. It seems more like someone adapted a part of some light novel to manga. The idea is good, it has a theoretical basis that is worth looking at, the problem is that it doesn’t end up developing well, or alternatively, it doesn’t develop enough. Now, despite that, the manga is recommended for people who like concepts such as: idea, dogma and the human mind ... itself. Come on, you'll see super-curious mental landscapes.

→ Art? 6.5.
UBDP has much American characteristics, although with the expressions we know that it is Japanese. In most of the story it uses a single type of drawing, nonetheless, there are some parts (first chapter) that have a very striking drawing like a videogame; something like the animated sequences of the first Assassin's Creed. The bad thing is that Torao uses this only 2 times in the whole manga.

I liked the idea and the concepts used, but it would have been better with longer and deeper narration in the place-events context.

→ Characters? 7.
Nothing out of the ordinary, at least there aren’t cliche characters. And the Nameless-Hideto faces were weird at times, haha.

Finally, my recommendation.
To make you more pleasant, read a little of the psychoanalysis of Jacques Lacan and about the tower of Babel (biblical).

Primeramente, Ultrabaroque Deprogammer (lo abreviaré como UBDP) es un manga incompleto. No es una historia cerrada. Parece más como que hubieran adaptado una parte de alguna novela ligera a manga. La idea es buena, tiene una base teórica que vale la pena mirar, el problema es que no termina desarrollándose bien, o alternativamente, no se desarrolla lo suficiente. Ahora bien, a pesar de eso, el manga es recomendable para personas que les gusten conceptos como: idea, religión, dogma y la mente humana en sí. Vamos que, verás unas paisajes mentales súper curiosos.

→ ¿Arte? 6.5.
UBDP tiene bastante características americanas, aunque con la mayoría de expresiones sabemos que es japonés, no obstante, aunque en la mayoría de la serie utiliza un solo tipo de dibujo, hay algunas partes (como el primer capítulo) que tiene un dibujo muy llamativo, aparentando ser un videojuego; algo así como las secuencias animadas del primer Assasin's Creed. Lo malo es que Torao utiliza esto sólo 2 veces en el manga, así que la mayoría de lo que verás es un dibujo... quizás algo "flojo" desde el punto de vista actual.

Me ha gustado. La idea y los conceptos usados eran buenos, pero me hubiera gustado un manga más largo y más profundo en el contexto lugar-sucesos.

Nada fuera de lo común. Rescato que no hay los típicos personajes cliché y la verdad no tengo quejas de ninguno. Aunque las caras de sin nombre-Hideto son medio raras a veces, haha.

Por último, mi recomendación.
Para que se les haga más placentero, leed un poco del psicoanálisis de Jacques Lacan y sobre la torre de babel (bíblico).
