HIDAMARI SKETCH <3

Hey sorry for getting back to you so late. I did end up finishing Hidamari the other week and have been quite occupied with PriPara and other things. I did have a moment to collect my thoughts. My overall thoughts on the series basically boil down to it being wonderful and everything I expected from the finale and what was building up to it. I could give a lot of thoughts on it but they're probably stuff you've heard 100 times. You were totally right about the OVA not being too grim about the passing of time and I think that was encapsulated best in one of the scenes near the end



I'd rather focus in on episodes 6 and 7 of Honeycomb rather because these two episodes resonated with me so much, it will remain my favorite season because of them. I'd say it barely edges over x 365.






I will consider reading the manga, but if I do I will start over because I always feel like I cheat by not starting from the beginning, even if I've seen the anime and this is the kind of series I wouldn't mind experiencing all over again + appreciating the art.

Oh and I forgot to share one of my favorite gags in Honeycomb so far, possibly in the entire series:

I definitely see the appeal of them. I wish I gave them more of a chance earlier, and not just a select few titles. You're totally right about being better than adult-oriented stuff lol, I think Doremi really pushed the envelope for a big chunk of the community that "kids shows are more than just kids stuff" but I think there was way more to show for that then just a singular show. Lot of my friends just refuse to check out more from that specific catalog.

Konaka is someone who I'm not too familiar with (directing wise), aside from Texh. Always nice to see work on something not known by the masses, as the usual Konaka praise comes from ABe and Digimon Tamers. Same with Kaizawa now that I look through his page, I didn't realize he also worked on Tamers with Konaka :o. Igarashi is all I'm really familiar with, I love all of his directorial work not just Doremi, but its the strongest parts of Bungou Stray Dogs and Soul Eater. Ashita no Nadja is also on my radar, all my friends love that one and I've seen some very lovely screenshots.

It's safe to say I already love the first few episodes of Honeycomb. Yuno continues to be more relatable trying to act as a senpai while Sai and Hiro are away. It's the most adorable and saddening thing at the same time, I feel for Yuno too much in this series. I definitely agree about the first episode of x365, if this old server I was in wasnt gone I could dig up an old message of me gushing how it was the best episode, and almost blew everything away that I saw in S1 (not to devalue season 1 or anything!). I look forward to the rest of the season. I was actually completely unaware it was an incomplete adaptation until I read your message, how much is left after the anime is finished?

I have been in a bit of an anime slump, if you will, most of this year so I think what really helped ease my way back in was try a lot of stuff outside my comfort zone a bit. I like to think I've seen a good variety of shows from different eras, but the idol/mahou shoujo side is one I haven't explored as much as others, so I'm enjoying it while it lasts. They're good shows to unwind to after a long day at Uni ^.^

Fun Fun Pharmacy was a nice surprise. I've only seen a few episodes, but the directing is absolutely amazing and I've seen screenshots from a few other directors, such as Igarashi and Kaizawa, and Konaka being on the script is pretty huge. Lots of love for him around these parts. I also adore the ED song.

I can see why Hidamari gets all the praise it does. I remember seeing all the pics of the wide faces over the years, but when actually watching its such a big strength when it uses those big expressions and backgrounds to really express a wide range of emotions. My favorite episodes have been in x365, such as the first episode with Yuno getting accepted and moving into Hidamari apartments, I knew thats when it would be a special season. I also love when Yuno's parents visit in S2 (The OVA I just watched had Yuno visiting her parents this time and it was lovely as well) but one of the most memorable ones to me is still Yuno's fever dream episode. Miya is my favorite character, but Yuno might be the best all around, I love how the show handles her anxiety and fear for the future, it's the most relatable aspect of the show.

Yeah I knew graduation would be a part of this story, living together in Hidamari and creating memories in school ;w; might not be ready
