Hananoi-kun for me doesn't feel like a romance anime but instead a psychological thriller were Hananoi is gaslighting and keeping Hotaru hostage while she develops stockholm syndrome for him. Any romance or heartfelt moments falls flat because of this.
Those were exactly my thoughts! I wasn't sure if I'm watching a romcom or a horror loll. Great review. Hananoi is such a red flag that all his "wholesome" moments with Hotaru are meaningless.
