Yo. I'm Merra. Welcome to my

~ About Me
- Hi. I'm a third year engineering student. Trying to juggle school and hobbies with very little free time lol.
- Lover of all things art, whether it's literature (including poetry and essays), music or artworks themselves.
- Huge procrastinator.
- I read way, WAY more manga than I watch anime. Though I don't think this is weird in the slightest, a lot of people I've met in real life find it so.
- All other important info about myself has mysteriously vanished from my memory.
My motto: A great soundtrack = A great show!
I'm a sucker for soundtracks. When I'm watching anime, I'm usually looking at how all its parts go hand in hand (the pacing, music playing at the time, character development etc). And hunting for songs to add to my anime OST playlist on Spotify. Even when a show has a mediocre plot, I'll be tempted to raise the score if its soundtrack is breathtaking.
Of course, there are exceptions; at times, whatever potential greatness a show's soundtrack could have had is lost on its bad writing, so much so that the music makes no difference.
Made in Abyss
Important!!! The notes on my lists may contain spoilers. I like leaving notes with my thoughts on a series in my list. They can be anything from rants to mini-reviews, and so on, based on what I've read so far. I usually indicate if there are any spoilers to be found within any of said notes.
Thought to give a heads-up on my profile too! (• - • ;)
My manga and anime ratings explained!
╰☆☆ ℳ𝓎 𝓂𝒶𝓃𝑔𝒶 𝓇𝒶𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑔𝓈 𝑒𝓍𝓅𝓁𝒶𝒾𝓃𝑒𝒹 ☆☆╮ 10: A probable masterpiece. Something I had an amazing time reading, and believe deserves all the love it can get. In some cases I just look past any of its faults and give it a 10 if I enjoyed it that much. I've probably only done this once or twice, but at times I give short stories a 10 too, as they're mostly too short to find any issue.
9: Really good. Almost perfect in fact. Close to becoming a favorite, if itisn't.
8: Had one or two things standing in the way of my enjoyment, such as under-refined art, poor writing choices, etc.
7: Just there actually. This is my average score.
6: Readable. Also my default score for anything with ecchi or gore as the main plot.
5,4,3: Descending levels of bad. Atrocious in their own way
2: Why do you exist?
Anime ratings
A bunch of the anime I watch are simply because I've read the manga, so my rating is of how good an adaptation I think it is, and not how good the anime itself is. I generally give anime higher scores and 8/10 is pretty much the average score here
But know this: any show that scores below 5 on my list is the devil's spawn itself.
- All Yuki Midorikawa works --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2/6
- All finished Hiromu Arakawa works ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1/9
- 75% of CLAMP works ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ?/?
- All works from Superstring Universe ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3/?
Over half-way through the year and I haven't gone so far with this huh...
THE YEAR IS LITERALLY ENDING SEND HELP!!!
My other favorite characters that don't show on my profile because I'm too stingy for MAL Supporter
1. Kugisaki Nobara ~ Jujutsu Kaisen
2. Every dude from Arslan's sect in The Heroic Legend of Arslan: Daryun, Narsusˋ(✿◡‿◡) , Gieve, and Arslan himself
3. Edward Elric ~ Fullmetal Alchemist
4. Guy Christophe-Rech ~ Karakuri Circus
5. Asami ~ High School Debut
6. Tomo ~ Azumanga Daioh
7. Ouran Nakagawa ~ Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction
I don't understand a word of Japanese but I LOVE this song. Played it a lot after watching the anime (it was at the top of my Spotify stats for months). I basically stopped associating it with the show, and listened to it an unhealthy amount of times. It has an atmospheric, chill feeling (not the best description I've ever made). Can't place the genre though... It also has a music video with real humans in it
Shoukei to Shikabane no Michi - Linked Horizon//name of love - cinema staff (Atttack on Titan 5th OP & ED. From Season 3 Part 2)
Best AOT opening in my opinion. It portrays the feeling and plot of AOT more than any of the other openings, and brings all the previous arcs together through the lyrics. Has one of my favorite lines from an anime OP: "What is it that awaits us beyond these walls?" which is quite literally the entire plot of AOT. Nuff said. Full song here btw
First song I ever saved. Has a special spot in my h.
1. 22194 (Norman's theme) ~ Takahiro Obata (The Promised Neverland).
2. No Hesitation A godly piece of music that doesn't play once throughout the series;Prepare Yourself ~ Yoshimasa Terui (Jujutsu Kaisen S2)
3. Your Battle Is My Battle ~ Chica, Hiroaki Tsutsumi (Jujutsu Kaisen). What I actually like is the bliss that takes place between 3:05 and 3:40.
4. Quite literally EVERYTHING from AOT. Hiroyuki Sawano is just that guy. If I had to make myself choose one, it would be E.M.A. Its usage in episode 13 of Attack On Titan is something I believe everybody should watch at least once in their lives. Other favorites from the series include: ERENthe標; T-KT; 2Volt; (and of course) You See BIGGIRL
Though I make it a personal rule to avoid listening to OSTs and songs from anime I haven't watched, I still accidentally end up hearing a bunch, and having them come up in my queue while studying. These are my favorites, which have even inspired me to watch the shows themselves.
1. Kansas (Rise of the Shield Hero) [technically my favorite]; Irregular God (Tower of God) ~ Kevin Penkin
2. Old Stories ~ Kevin Penkin (Made in Abyss S2). [I watched Made in Abyss because of this song!!!! My disappointment that it doesn't play once in the first season isn't even as much as my disappointment towards the show itself That's right!! I HATED it! Bite Meeeee
3. escalon ~ Shiro Sagisu (Bleach S3). [I'm abysmal with long shows so I doubt I'll ever be watching this...as much as I'd like to :]
Heya heyo, no worries, that's great to hear and I agree :)!
I was scrolling through your manga list and it was fun to read your scribbles (as do I with my experiences haha).
As for the term, it officially is "poeta doctus" in Latin, meaning a skilled and learned poet or scholar, who wove diverse information into their stories for the readers to learn from (poeta, male, poet, via Greek; doctus, past participle = adjective (in male form) out of the verb docere, to teach/show). This can be extrapolated from originally Roman writers to writers of any medium, as long as they don't intentionally create false info, and bring various concepts into their work even if only slightly touching it. I have studied 6 years in high school with Latin texts and culture and I'll be forever looking back to it with a majority of happy and satisfied memories.
I didn't want to correct you in a rude manner. I did think it'd be a disservice to knowingly let you memorize the wrong term 🫡.
Hi Merra! I don't know what language to write this in, but I assume you speak English.
I really appreciate your recommendations! From the two manga you recommended I was able to read “All you need is kill”. I honestly didn't know this manga although I really like Obata's works, my favorite is Bakuman! I recommend it in case you haven't read it (in fact I had no idea about the movie either hahaha).
I found the concept of the manga quite fascinating, about reliving the same thing and learning from mistakes and the ease with which they apply it in the plot despite having very few chapters. The ending I didn't expect, but it was a great closure, even though I was sad about what happened.
Thanks again and I hope you have a great year! Best regards
