Well, at least we know she didn't learn about emotions, and even then, that's only ever a point for the romance aspect of the series, other than that she's pretty cracked in all her stats :')
It's stated that she finds the drama in palace life because she's just THAT bored (or, something...I kinda forgot the reason they gave, but she does actively seek gossip from Xiaolan for a reason) which is what led her to her first murder solving thingy. And, for the government conspiracy theories, it's smoothly led into by the author but it's pretty much because her lineage is royal (and she has the attention of two extremely high ranked people) that she gets kidnapped, and probably more, idk, I haven't read that far, nor have I watched the anime in a long time. She just comes up on a whim about the government stuff through everything she had learned before like how you can interpret Ah-duo's words differently to how similiar Jinshi and Ah-duo look to Jinshi's birth getting switched (very convenient, ik) and says "nah, on second thought, lemme not think TOO much abt it" (which ties in to your 'little to no clues, yet immediate correct answers' point, which I unfortunately cannot defend myself as I do not see myself how it correlates at all to what she's supposed to learn as an apothecary, human nature, plants etc.)
Yeah, no probs, tho after this I'll either answer pretty late or just no answer at all, since, like you said, to each their own.
Also, like I said in my first comment, it's an anime site so there's no point in me wasting my energy in berating someone who doesn't share the same thoughts as me LOL XD
for the bandit thing, the anime heavily censored a lot of things but according to the light novel, her injuries were much worse, also, it wasn't her who did the talk no jutsu, it was Lakan who came to save her last moment (which, iirc is another point u made that characters come to save her when she cant or smth along those lines, which is a valid point, deus ex machinas are annoying, and maomao doesn't really learn much through the novels except for when she's with her adoptive father so i totally get why you'd think she's boring) but I can forgive her being the very BEST at what she does, because she's been trained ever since she was young all about poison and how to observe people to properly diagnose them, technically that would mean she has been training under her father for years (Maybe around 10 years), so I'm not surprised that she is really skilled at her craft
Plus, she is able to understand more about general society more than others because she was taught how to survive and read people and their usual motives and how to keep safe from them thanks to her sisters and dad (which is another thing I had forgotten to point out, it's stated in the LN and anime if I remember correctly that her sisters teach her for hours on end how to practice sex techniques, again, the anime doesn't just throw these out your face, they give the environment and then expects you to solve the reasons behind why she knows xyz.
But it IS true Maomao is rarely proven wrong, (though so is every detective MC in their own anime), its traditional they're the perspective you cannot doubt, after all. srsly tho, it is a little ridiculous how she can solve governmental conspiracies despite her character traits being ~actively avoids politics. but I assume it'd tie in with her knowledge of poisons and inherent human nature which then turns into "guessing" how the events of the murder turned out but not rlly knowing WHY the people did what they did, she has a bit of basic knowledge abt human emotions like jealousy and knows people would kill out of envy, but she doesn't think any deeper than that.
As for the name one thing, when she returns home for the first time and makes the mistake of telling them to get water for her, this shows there are people who are smarter than her and she can make mistakes, it's not groundbreaking nor solid but I'll take what I can.
sorry if I was rambling or didn't make sense, I tried my best to be as respectful as possible while also comprehending your points. I can practically feel my English slipping away and used a copious amount of autocorrect on this so if I don't make sense feel free toa sk me to elaborate on a point or maybe I missed something ^^
this is an anime site so who cares but ur review of the apothecary diaries was pretty confusing imo, and no, maomao isnt a mary sue.
at least, no more so than other detective type characters. She is simply very good in some specific areas such as medicine, poisons and forensic analysis which are what she will need most in her work.
If you put Mao Mao against a basic bandit, most of the time she will lose.
A Mary Sue is a character who is the best at everything the plot requires from her sometimes even for no good reason.
Sometimes when maomao is good at smth maybe a bit beyond her knowledge, the plot will excuse it with "she was bored when she was young and learned this from her childhood" which is...pretty understandable but obviously trying to make up for the fact that the audience may question, "wait, how does she know this anyways?", but again, FOR NO GOOD REASON.
Just wanted to sayyour review of The apothecary diaries is unfathomably based. Currently on episode 20 and it was driving me up a wall how mary sue-ish maomao is. Not only that but anytime a situation comes up she cant solve, some high ranked person always seems to show up and wave their hand so she immediately has her way. I actually despise this character with every fiber of my being and I want to thank you for articulating my feelings on the matter.
Hey Ryan, just wanted to say I’ve had almost the exact same experience with WhiteGarterBelt: same insults, same ragebait, same deleting replies. Ignore him, he isn’t worth the conversation.
Damn, looks like someone had a bad day lol. Relax a bit. Just so we're clear, I never took your opinion seriously to begin with. My response was only to your comment to Ionliosite2, which, funnily enough, was clearly about me. You got so caught up in a conversation that had nothing to do with you in the first place, and now you're out here trying to make it personal.
If you reread our exchange, you'll notice I never once called out your bias or whatever, only Ion's. I simply said you had moronic takes. But if you feel targeted, that's really on you, man. I didn’t give a damn about your vapid opinion or your petty feelings. So do us both a favor and keep that rage to yourself. I’ve wasted enough time on this already.
The amount of hate you get here says more than you ever could. You’ve made a reputation off shallow takes and an even shallower personality. You're about as transparent as your arguments—empty and easy to dissect. Doesn’t take a genius to see right through your ignorant persona. Your media taste is as vapid as your personality; all bark, no brain.
Why so passive-aggressive all of a sudden? Weren't you seething just a comment ago? You’re projecting so hard it’s almost art. I didn’t pretend not to care, I literally called you out and then laughed while taking your cringe tantrum off my page. Stay mad tho.
I did not read all that, and I am not gonna read three long paragraphs of you embarrassing yourself. Too depressing. I even saved you the shame and deleted it for you lol. The only person here you should be pissed at is yourself, honestly. People don't dislike you because you're "different," but because you're insufferably shallow.
The amount of hate you receive on this site is not surprising, and honestly, it's deserved. It's not "you against the world," you're just simply the type of shallow-minded, insecure loser that everyone dislikes and I understand them for wanting to put you in your little place. I get why you like Shinji so much, but even he's less pathetic than you are lol.
Big dawg, I have an English degree. Your reviews are hotdog water. You just insert your own insecurities into review bombing shows people enjoy more than you. That immediately turns anything you write on here as a review into mere uneducated opinion. The two reasons they appear on the front page is because the caretakers of this site enjoy discord and chaos. The second one is they realize they can stack ad revenue in multiple ways - one being brain washing people like you into committing a ton of time into a site that's absolutely pointless.
You're a miserable person and they got you hook, line and sinker.
Dude your Apothecary Diaries review was so funny and it made me realize why I was putting off watching it every time I had free time. Watching the next episode started feeling a bit like a chore and I wasn't sure why I wasn't invested anymore even though a friend recommended it to me and it's got such good ratings.
It really is as you say: she knows how to do everything, isn't fazed by anything, she intimidates everyone. She's OP in every aspect and it wouldn't be a problem if she wasn't OP in such an unfun way.
OPM -> despite OP he cares about the simple things, + the show's hilarious has amazing animation, has some interesting side characters,
Overlord -> OP but relatable: he acts being a king even though he's just winging it and writes notes and practices lines, he's struggling to keep all his NPCs happy and barely by luck and in hilarious turn of events manages to meet all their expectations.
When the MC is really capable there are ways in which you can still make their journey interesting be it through the production value (animation, art, soundtrack, voice acting), comedy, other characters or through making the character human and lacking in other aspects. This anime is just super bland.
I have to say, it's pretty funny reading how mad people in your comments are. I haven't read other reviews from you but this one seemed sincere and funny.
Alright you shallow, emotionally braindead little pussy, I'll explain myself then for you.
["So, on one hand, I can't form an opinion on how Simon's grief was portrayed (because I've never experienced it, you'd know that), but it also wasn't supposed to be "some deep think piece" portrayal of "grief" anyway? Which is it, and why can only you have an opinion on it?
"Also in regards to Gurren's portrayal of grief, you do not get to decide how a person appreciates a piece of work portraying grief. You know who does? People who have experienced grief."
Then, like, a paragraph later...
"The way Simon's grief is portrayed is not supposed to be some deep think piece."
Help me reconcile that.
"It's depth lies in the lack there of, something you seem to be incapable of grasping."]
I understand it's hard for you to reconcile with your extremely low emotional intelligence so I'll help you out.
The impact and portrayal of any emotional topic, grief included, does not need to be some "deep think piece" to have emotional impact. People are impacted and can feel the weight of those themes, even if the purpose in it's execution is not to be extremely thought provoking, that has NOTHING to do with how much it impacts a person. And once again, since you admitted to not experiencing grief, I have, so I get to choose if and or how much a piece of work or art portraying that theme impacts me, as does anyone else who has experienced any emotional topic that is being explored in any piece, whether it's execution was deep and thought provoking or not. And sometimes, not exploring the depth of a topic, and in your words, allowing for more interpretation from the audience, makes those topics more special and carry more weight. I absolutely do not have a monopoly on suffering, nor am I the only one who can have an opinion on how grief is portrayed, but I have experienced grief like I said, so I get to decide how portrayals of that topic impact me personally. You've already admitted to having no experience on the topic, so if you'd like to stay ignorant and spew whatever idiotic opinions on the topic you like, go for it! You can have whatever opinion you want little guy, and I can have the opinion that yours are utterly idiotic, ignorant, and have no basis whatsoever.
"What-the-fuck-ever, man. Yeah, because we have differing opinions on a Japanese children's cartoon, I just must be some horrible, joyless drag. So much so, apparently, that you couldn't be bothered to properly read and comprehend my review, and felt absolutely compelled to come and insult me about it. Kind of like what you're accusing me of doing with the show..."
Interesting how upset you've become when called out for having such little emotional intelligence, it definitely has no weight though surely. :)
I very clearly understood your review, I just think it's the most braindead review and opinion on the show that a human could possibly have, which is why I haven't mentioned Gurren once in this comment and am only responding to things you've said towards me, hope this helps.
"Cool, man. Do that. I feel different and I was content to not make sweeping, baseless assumptions on your life and character because of it."
"So much so, apparently, that you couldn't be bothered to properly read and comprehend my review, and felt absolutely compelled to come and insult me about it."
You literally invited people to give you the middle finger in your review, so stop crying about it like a pussy. Other than it being clear you have the emotional intelligence of a grape, I'm not assuming too much. Also, if me pointing out your low EQ is so much of an insult to you(considering that's the only thing in my initial comment that could have possibly been taken as an insult), maybe consider some self reflection on that topic. <3
And I only OCCASIONALLY incite arguments on MAL... For someone so obsessed with being correct and logical I'd expect you to be more accurate with that statement. Personally, I'd prefer having an intelligent conversation where both parties can explain their viewpoints and come to a mutual understanding rather than argue, as I have plenty of friends with differing opinions than me. You are absolutely 100% incapable of that as you have proven so I have simply reciprocated your energy.
However, if you truly feel insulted, then I apologize, I should have never said you struggle with your emotional intelligence. You calling me a "fucking loser" on the other hand is a direct and confrontational insult and I'd like an apology at once!
Also yes your comment crying like a little bitch is perfect for my profile! Thank you very much! But you never addressed the class... Still have a discord channel waiting to hear if this is masterclass level trolling or if you're the closest thing to an AI in human form the world has ever seen. Regardless this has been a nice chat, looking forward to your next response.
