Yes, Lelouch's death was truly iconic. It was incredibly heartbreaking to witness him falling next to his sister. Seeing Nunnally holding his hand and expressing her love for him was so powerful. It's definitely one of the best endings I've ever seen. I haven't watched the movies yet but now that you've mentioned it, i got really excited!

It has great animation, but story-wise is pretty simple. Also, ugly bastard, which isn't my thing.
