I appreciate the friend requests but I prefer to keep my profile "quiet" - so please only add me if we have a lot of anime in common or were chatting on forums/ reddit, thanks :)
I was also thinking about how it must have been for day 1 anime viewers seeing this story play out
Nana was an insanely successful manga back in the day, like literally one of the best selling ones, so it really depends on whether the day1 viewers were familiar with the source, which for the time I assume they would've been. Anime was a lot more of a niche thing 10-15 years ago and the amount of shows coming out wasn't as overwhelming, so even the more casual viewers were somewhat aware of big titles being thrown around, even if they weren't in the genre they'd usually consume. Nowadays it seems like anime is a lot more global, but a lot of fans tend to stay in their own bubble when it comes to what they consider good/big hit.
Yeh I can get on board with that way of thinking, I liked that Nana was often complicated exploring complex emotions and given that a vague and open ended conclusion doesn't seem too out of place.
Yeah, it's my own way of viewing it, and I tend to find beauty in it. But I have heard some criticism here and there about the original anime ending and how it devalues the show in a way, rightfully so...a partial adaptation will always be a partial adaptation. But I can't in good faith say that's an issue that should prevent someone from giving the show a go, they'll be missing on such a gem of a show. I think the studio found a really decent stopping point.
manga but I do struggle when going from audiovisual format => book
I find it hard to read manga in general, but that's even worse for me too. I am still holding hope about some of my favorite shows getting a conclusion, even if it doesn't seem like they will.
Frieren it would take the anime committee to announce "there will never be more Frieren anime" before I would ever read the manga
Let's hope that never happens, lol. I am excited for season two next year, can't wait. It is one of my absolute favorites.
maybe Madhouse doing a season 2 before the voice actors are all retired lol.
I think at this point the show is old enough to justify a complete re-make, if necessary. Though, I would be happier with just a sequel/s2 done by Madhouse again. It is possible, we are getting some really unexpected sequels these days. I did just finish a show called Kimi ni Todoke, which had a 13year old gap between s2 and s3, so it's not a completely far-fetched idea. It makes me hopeful that at some point, some of my favorites my get continuation and much needed conclusion (looking at my baby Chihayafuru).
I never expected it to hit so hard either. Even while I was watching it, the show never felt that special to me, right up until after I finished the last episode and just stood there sobbing for a good 10 minutes, contemplating the fact that this was indeed a pretty unique experience.
A lot of the friendships and character dynamics remind me of my friend group and how we used to be in our early 20s. Anime shows sometimes tend to either sugarcoat or overexaggerate reality in numerous ways, so I was taken aback by how real Nana felt in a lot of ways.
Yeah, the manga's been on hiatus for a really long time, but I heard some rumors that Yazawa intends to finish it soon (not sure how accurate). Regardless, I say that every time, but I think there's beauty in how abruptly Nana ends, as it perfectly represents the show itself, in how life doesn't always go in the direction you were hoping for or expecting. Though I must say, I was a bit confused by the anime ending, so I had to look up some stuff and I spoiled myself on future events.
That ost is indeed pretty awesome, I love both Nana and Reira's voices and their respective voice actresses. The first ED is one of my absolute favorites and still hits like a truck every time I hear it.
Sorry for the splat but oh boy this show was just amazing
Yeah, no need for apologies, I know exactly how you feel. It took a good month or two for Nana to get out of my system and to not have it constantly on my mind. Glad you enjoyed it, ;]
Thank you so much,I've never seen this anime before, I'll definitely watch it sometime. It's nice to see someone who is a fan of Vivy. This anime is underrated.
Yes and no. The plot definitely gets moving... lots of emotional stuff, backstories, etc. But the humor never dies down. It's not that bad, but it was a bit too much at times, so I definitely get where you're coming from. I still recommend watching the series, though. My score is to my own standards, never pay too much attention to my scores.
I did like the show and had fun with it :) It was wholesome and visually stunning. I've seen a bunch of sports anime, so it wasn't the show's fault for following similar tropes I've seen a lot. But it might be perfect for you if you haven't seen many sports shows. Definitely check it out if the humor isn't a deal breaker, it does have some really good moments. I think my problems with the show would be negligible to most people.
I was hesitating between giving Angel Next Door 7 or 8, but leaned towards 7 because even as a diabetes anime it could've been more meaningful than just a plain blush fest. I found season 1 pretty conclusive so I'm not sure what season 2 will be about, but I will watch it either way
Yeah I agree I liked that I could imagine whatever happened afterwards and at least I knew that Yumemi changed his life for the better. Yeah I don't know why they cut that either it makes no sense.
Right! I really wish they did that instead of the movie that would have been a great slice of life to watch. Yeah her wandering off all the time was so funny. Her one coworker was like I took my eyes off her for 1 second lol I loved it though all she wanted was more people to come to the planetarium.
Yes I seen that was the source material I never played one before but after watching this I just might try to find it and play.
So going into the movie I didn't know it would include the ONA I thought it would be a direct sequel. I don't like to watch recap movies. As for the extra content I liked that he traveled the world telling people about the stars and when he died he was reunited with Yumemi. That being said I really didn't need to see it. I was hoping he would get her a similar model and they would travel the world together. I would of much rather have watched something like the prequel for 2 hours. I absolutely loved the OVA.

Okay I will respond back tomorrow with my thoughts after I watch both.
I probably would too. I loved the way she talked about them, it was beautiful.
Yes I seen that and a movie. I plan on watching both tomorrow.
