I would definitely recommend this absolute Cinema. Not only is the music for this anime really, really good, but the plot and satisfaction with the ending is really good, too. Unlike the original folk tale where Princess Kaguya gets sent back to the moon, which is indeed quite a dissatisfying or "bad" ending (Well, I mean, how disappointed can you get with a folk tale that an literally be said in three sentences? But to each their own.) This anime focuses on getting a "good" ending where all loose ends are tied up and everyone is happy in the end.
Normally, this kind of
...
movie would be uninteresting because so many plot points are being stuffed into a 1-2 hour film, but I think this turned out great. Sure, there are some plot points that are mentioned once and completely ignored (the studio probably really did forget about it) like the currency of the virtual world, which is mentioned once as Kaguya's login bonus and drawn again as part of the animation Yachiyo displays when she announces the results to the Yachiyo Cup Tournament, but the ending is so satisfying that it makes the movie so much worth watching. Every time you think the anime is going to give you an ending that says "Shut up, deal with it. Not everyone can be happy in the end," the main character says "To hell with that!" or "It's not over yet" and, well, we end up with a great ending where everyone is happy. Kaguya regains her physical body and her original temperament, Iroha, Kaguya, and Yachiyo hold a concert together, and there's no moon people trying to take Kaguya back for not doing her work.
Also, the music is really important in this anime. The lyrics actually spoil the ending to the movie if you think hard enough (Ex-Fairtale has Yachiyo saying "It's me" and talking about her loneliness of the 8,000 years, Starry Sea's main theme is meeting a loved one after thousands of years, Remember actually gives away the half-finished track in the first two lines and a lot more, World is Mine is just there, and Reply is just peak and it's about how Yuchiyo / Kaguya will remember Iroha and their time together for the next 8,000 years) The references make it so that you want to rewatch it (which I did,) and it is still peak. You can understand all the references when you rewatch it (When Iroha whishes for money, she get's Kaguya, who becomes a famous streamer, and when Kaguya leaves, Kaguya gives Iroha all the money she earned (a lot of money,) fulfilling Iroha's wish).
Also, the animation style and the graphics are simply amazing. I have never seen an anime with such detailed, smooth, and beautiful graphics as this one. The flying blue-sky-worm things look amazing from the cityscape shots, and the concert's are simply peak. Speaking of the music that I already talked about, I'm right now listening to a playlist made from all the songs in the anime. Wait how did Black OnyX's music get on here?
