This one is on everyone's "must see" list, it seems. I gave it a shot to see what the fuzz was all about. It started out well, but would have benefited from from a more compressed format; perhaps 24 episodes or so.
Animation
Great graphics here! Cool special effects (and a lot of them, too, with all the alchemy blasting about) and nice fighting scenes. Character design is awsome, you get a genuine feeling about every person just by looking at them.
Sound
Not the best intro/outro music, but decent. The background music is above average, not too much "happy plonk plonk midi" stuff.
Voice acting is good, but Al's
...
constant "Nii-san..." gets a bit tedious, as does Ed's "I'm obviously a woman trying to sound like a cocky young man".
Story
You get caught by the interesting story from the very beginning. And it turns out to be a very complex one, with lots of twists and unfoldings. Most of the characters have a natural place in the story, which is nice.
Sadly, while the story moves on, the storywriters seem to constantly paint themselves into a corner; the main characters meet the villains way too often. In almost every episode there is some kind of showdown. But since both the Elric brothers and the Bad guys have to survive for the story yo move on, the fights always end in an anticlimax. You get used to these constant disappointments, but then you expect a huge ending! Well, let's just say Kenshin delivered better on this point.
So the fight scenes, while graphically cool, add nearly nothing to the story. The story itself is still great; you get to know the FMA world in an exciting way.
Character
As usual in shonen anime, the main characters are totally über when it comes to "might and magic". They are however still kids, and behave accordingly. During the episodes they get more mature. Their hunt for the philosopher's stone could be seen as a metaphor for the coming of age.
The Col Mustang crew is cool, representing the "good authority" in the series.
The Homunculi are an interesting bunch, but I never really understood exactly who was born out of what magical experiment.
Value
I probably won't watch this again. It's great but far too long.

This is almost like a parody of how many people think anime and manga looks; nudity and blood in abundance. If you don't have a problem with that (I sure as hell don't), you will notice that this anime is much more than offensive visuals. The story, characters and tragic drama are all great. Not perfect, though, there are many minor and some major flaws, but it doesn't stop me from liking Elfen Lied more than most animes.
Contrary to many people, I am very sparse with my 10's, and I don't think Elfen Lied is worthy of any. But an 8 or even 7 is
...
still good in my book. The enjoyment is all that matters, really, and this was one of the animes that I enjoyed the most.
Animation
Overall well done. The characters are very nicely designed (except for Kouta and Yuka, but they are supposed to be average joes on the other hand). There isn't very much actual combat, most of it is visualised as squirting blood and flying bodyparts. The actual severing looks great, though.
A big plus for the graphics during the intro theme. If there only was an anime that actually looked that way all the way...
Sound
The voice acting is not the best; Kouta and Yuka in particular are a bit dull, but it kind of fits their roles as the only "common people" in this anime. The other voice talents do a good job.
The intro tune is wonderful, and it's cool that it's also used in the plot. The latin "gothic" feel of it might not fit the theme entirelly, since there are no connections to christianity or heaven/hell. But what the heck, it's a good song regardless.
The ending song is something like "Avril Lavigne goes J-pop". It's nothing special but I like the way it fits with Nuy's personality. Happy and careless.
Story
There are lots of things going on simultaneously in Elfen Lied. Every character has their own agenda and mini-story, in addition to the larger metaplot. This is nice, I like advanced and intertwining storylines, but sadly there are many loose ends in the end.
The whole feel of the drama is one of an unavoidable doom, which makes the happy and innocent parts, like Nyu, seem very tragic. I think this is beautifully done.
My main complaint on the story is that it relies too much on unlikely randomnes. I had preferred it to be more waterproof.
There are a lot of things that are not explained in this anime. What are the dioclonus really? What happened to this and that character? And so on.
Character
Kouta, the main guy, has a rather complicated background that could excuse many kinds of behaviour. But I feel many of his actions are just a little bit too wierd. He just doesn't feel as human as I would like him to be. I would prefer him to be more like Seiji from SaiKano in some ways.
Yuka is a stereotype found in all animes. She can be a bit childish, but is likeable.
Nyu/Lucy has a split personality, but both sides of her is cool. I like how the innocent cuteness (yeah, well, sexyness too) contrasts against Lucy's cold, almost psychopathic facade. I would like the Lucy side to be even more cynical.
God, there are just too many characters.. let's just say that most of them are great, but a bit illogically acting. Sometimes it feels like the creators made the characters first, and then tried to make a story out of it.
Don't get me wrong, this is a great anime; I'm just trying to find things to pick on. =)
Value
This one really has it all; splatter, boobies, cool characters, complicated plot and nice visuals and sound. None of it is perfect, but still way above average. I'll definitely watch it again.
Hm, I might even have missed one episode. Everyone says there are 14, but I have only seen 13. If only the DVD was released in this cr!p country...

I thought this was going to be a comedy about a horny asshole of a main character, who dated too many girls at the same time, and eventually got into trouble for it. Well, it wasn't.
To put it short: This was a really bad anime. But with boobs...
Animation
Considering it was made in 1994 it looks ok, but compared to newer stuff it is very inferior. The characters look rather dull. All the girls are portrayed as doll angels and the main character looks just like someone that usually walks past in the background of other animes.
The sex scenes are better drawn than the rest, but
...
they are too long due to pointlessability IMO.
Sound
Decent intro track, decent voice acting (Wataru sounds very much like Onizuka, BTW) and the background music consists of a single pianist that, however skilled, gets a bit boring after a while.
Story
Story? No.
Character
Wataru is a pretty decent guy, which I hoped he would not be. It just happens that he is present when girls are sad and heartbroken, and need to f!ck the pain away. All the ladies are intellectually and dramaturgically questionable and do not give a proper picture of the opposite sex to the 14 year old boys for whom this anime was clearly made.

Think Star wars, then imagine Luke Skywalker being a immensely strong but retarded kid who only cares about food, big boobs and keeping promises. Imagine Darth Vader as a pervert in striped underwear. The stormtroopers are cute and optimistic cheerleader blobs of lard. And Princess Leia actually looks good...
Then add a couple of other stuff, and you get Photon! A hilariously funny and still epic story set in some kind of fantasy future.
Animation
Decent. The animation is not the best, but the character designs are great! Nice background details.
Sound
Great music, some kind of 80's rock anthems which I like. Dope voice acting.
...
Story
What seems like a down-to-earth story, albeit a science fiction one, at the beginning, soon turns out to be a great epic with several unexpected twists. Basically Photon accidently meets a girl out on a quest to find some kind of magical source. She is hunted by the galactic empire, and there you have the basis of it all.
Character
Photon himself is an odd character. He is not clever, but very strong and utterly reliable. Not every anime boasts a main character of this retarded kind.
The girls travelling with him are fun; they constantly squibble over who Photon likes the most which creates some hilarious moments. Plus, Kyne is nice naked, too =)
The villain, Papacha, is the best character in this OVA. His plans to conquer the universe is constantly hindered by his own vanity and hornyness. This is how all antagonists should be! Plus, his cheerleader blobs add to the fun.
The side characters all have their place and help the story go forward. A solid set of fun characters, all in their own way.
Value
This one has it all! Humour, epics, boobies... A must see if you ask me. Again and again...

It has been a while since I saw the first season of School rumble. I don't remember much of it, except it was a lot of fun. So I had to check this one out too.
Overall, it is a shallow but very fun comedy.
Animation
Actually, there are very few animes with an animation style I don't like. SR2 looks as good as most "school life" animes out there, nothing spectacular but the characters are very well designed and there are lots of awesome scenes (often dream sequences or surreal shots to show off an emotion) that mostly fit in.
Sound
I was quite surprised to notice that there
...
are no extremely annoying voice acting in this series. There are almost always at least one character (often female) that I find very irritating due to her voice. But not here (ok, Lala balances on the border).
The intro song is nice, but no top-ten material. I mostly skipped the ending songs, I found them boring. The background music fits the crazy theme, but some tunes get repetetive after a few dozen plays.
Story
Ok, X loves Y, Y loves Z, Z loves W who loves Y, yadda yadda. The whole series is all about love triangles, which of course opens up for lots of hilarious moments. Sadly, these hilarious moments get too many and get in the way for a decent story/character development.
Since no one ever ever dare to confess their feelings to their loved one, everything rolls on and on in the same way the whole series. A few confessions and breakups would have kept the series more interesting.
All this said, there are still lots and lots of humour and funny moments, and that is obviously what School rumble is about.
Character
Most of the characters are likeable, and there are a lot of them! Many of the secondary characters were a bit hard to tell apart, though. I suppose I should have watched the 1st season directly before this one.
Character development is almost non-existant. Towards the end you get to know the Tsukamoto sisters a bit better, but overall the characters are very flat. This is not entirelly bad, though, since their personalities often are interesting enough to keep you focussed for a while, but towars the end of the season it feels a bit monotonous.
Value
I'll probably watch this one together with the 1st season again in a couple of years, just to re-experience the hilarious atmosphere.

I have read about half of the GTO manga, but I thought I'd watch the anime instead for some reason. The GTO anime IS good; very funny and somewhat heartwarming, but after being introduced by the manga, I actually was a little disappointed here. I'll definately go back to read the manga from start to finish, because I feel something is missing in the anime. Mainly sufficient character development.
Animation
Not too bad, the opening #1 is especially impressively animated. The graphical quality of the actual episodes varies quite much, though. It's almost like they hired different animators for some episodes. The lips/voice synq wasn't that great
...
either.
Character design and facial expressions were great, though. Onizuka's face in hilarious!
I'm no hardcore ecchi fan, but I think there could have been a lot more of that in this anime. Since Onizuka is such a perverted guy, I think it would fit the theme well with more boobs and panty shots. =)
Sound
The opening and ending themes are ok. I especially liked the ending theme #2. Too bad it didn't last for more than a few episodes. Opening teme #1 is good, but I have a problem liking male japanese singers. Can't explain why.
I had no problems with the voice acting. Onizuka sounds a bit too old from time to time, but that wasn't that much of a problem. It fits him somehow. All the other voice actors were good too, as far as I'm concerned.
Story
Basically, most episodes are about Onizuka converting a student that previously was hostile towards him. Still, there are much variation betwen the episodes, and many great laughs to be had. Despite a few meaningless filler episodes, most drives the story forward.
I didn't get the ending at all though. Is that what you call an ending (happy or not)? I think this anime deserved one.
The abrupt ending also leaves lots of loose ends. The manga was more slow-paced, so I hope more will be explained there.
Character
Yay, lots and lots of interesting characters! Since this is a rather long anime, most of them get at least decently presented. I think it could have been even better, though. In 43 episodes, there could have been much more character development. There actually are quite a lot already, but I wasn't entirelly satisfied.
All in all, I loved most of the characters. The main reason I didn't give GTO a 10 here, is in fact Onizuka himself. He gets too much screen time, and always interferes when other characters are starting to develop. He flies in like a superhero in the end of every episode, and the other characters never get to solve their problems on their own. I still like him, it's just that he gets in the way of everyone else.

Overall
Evidently a quite common phenomenon in Japan (at least three manga I know of has this theme), the main character's right hand transforms into a sentinent entity. In this case a cute girl. Sounds wierd, and it is, but is it any good?
Animation
The animation is quite good, no masterpiece but it fits the theme well. Character design is the strong point here with memorably looking characters and many funny expressions.
Sound
The voice acting is good, but a bit over-the-top a little too often. You get used to this after a few years watching anime, though.
The outro song is really nice and groovy, and fits the japanese
...
language very well. The first bars of the intro song is catchy and all, but I lose interest when the verse starts. I mostly FFW:ed the intro of Midori no hibi.
Story
A quite interesting setting; Midori gets in a coma and somehow becomes attached to the right hand of the guy she always adored, Seiji. This Seiji happens to be a real fuckup. Midori becoming a part of his life changes him in many ways, which is where the main point of the story lies.
Sadly, there are some filler episodes that doesn't contribute to any of the storylines going on. This is a bit of a shame in such a short anime.
Character
Good characters, even though I have some problems with Midori herself. She is supposed to be an extremely shy girl, but once she becomes Seiji's right hand, she changes totally, turning into some kind of mommy. I had a hard time swallowing that.
The supporting cast brings the setting to life, but get too little attention. A little less Midori shouting at Seiji and a little more interaction with the world around them wouldn't have hurt.
Value
This was the second time I watched the series, and I had a few laughs again. All in all a fun, cute and somewhat heartwarming anime.

Phew, just finished watching all the episodes in a streak. Now, what's this anime all about, then? Basically, we get to follow a handful or two of girls through their high school years.
Animation
Well, nothing spectacular here. The character design is great, though. Even though there are no extreme hair colours and stuff to tell the girls apart, gentle but vital differences makes it possible anyway.
Sound
I just love the intro and outro songs! Especially "raspberry heaven" with it's awsome change of intensity between verse and chorus.
The background music is goofy, nice and fitting, but gets repeated and recycled very often.
...
Story
Except for the chronological reoccurance of annual phenomena, like cultural festivals, summer holidays and sports competitions, there is no story whatsoever to follow. It's just the everyday life of the girls. Which is hilariously funny to watch, I must add.
Many of the jokes are very "cultural", and for non-japanese can be hard to understand. A bit of a shame, but on the other hand, the setting feels more real with references to the actual context they are living in.
Character
Like the Spice girls, Azumanga Daioh has one lass for everyone. They are all likeable in different ways (with the possible exception of Sakaki whom I never understood the appeal of). The supporting cast is small but awesome, mainly the teachers... Kimura the pedophile is funny and used sparesly, while the two female teachers complement each other perfectly. I wish there was more room to expand their personalities and backgrounds though.
Value
Well, as I said, I spent the last 8,5 hours watching this anime. That says something about value, eh? This was the second time I watched it, and I had a great time again.

This is some kind of teaser for the actual TV series, and all the events in this "movie" is also found in the series. Thus, this one is more or less pointless in the sense that it doesn't add anything to the "story" of AD. It fulfills the role of teaser quite well, though; most of the characters get introduced rather properly, and you get a good taste of what the series is all about.
The animation is better than the real series, even though I think they focused a bit too much on making the girls beautiful or even sexy. That is not what Azumanga
...
Daioh is about, if you ask me.
The "happi hen" song in the end is gorgeous, but a better take exists on the soundtrack CD.
Since it is only five minutes long, you could as well watch this, you might actually like seeing the wierd girls look good for a change. Just don't expect anything new.

Overall
I'm not into cars or racing at all, but somehow I enjoyed this one a bit regardless. Basically it's about a couple of gangs competing for honour in reckless downhill street racing.
Animation
The ordinary animation looks dull, uninspired and generally ugly. Most of the characters are given a very unappealing look (and this includes the main character, who probably was supposed to be a good looking guy. Well he isn't.) and the whole feel to the visuals is basically "cheap and old".
The actual car races look a little better, made in 3D computer graphics. This gives a (somewhat) vivid life to the actual races, and fits
...
well together with the music. It's not the best 3D renderations I have seen, but it does what it's supposed to do.
Sound
Mixed feelings here. The voice actors are decent (but please kill that ADHD monkey dude that hangs out with the main guy). What I don't understand is why there is reverb put on the voices in all situations. I watched Initial D with headphones since my speakers were broken at the time, and the reverb might be less obvious without cans. But it's still there, and it annoyed me.
The music, on the other hand, is marvellous! All the races are accompanied by some kind of Hi-NRG euro techno and I just love that stuff! It also lends another dimension of intensity and speed to the races.
Story
I like how the races are very duel-like. It's almost as exciting as any Kenshin sword fight.
The story moves forward at a nice pace, throwing new bad guys and opponents in the mix. It is a shame that the main character is almost unbeatable, though. It takes away from the excitement somewhat.
Value
I probably won't watch this one again; it's not hard to figure out what will happen once you have already seen the show. The best part of this anime, the music, exists on soundtracks, and once you've found them I see no real reason to watch this again. It was, however exciting enough that I don't regret watching it once.
