I do not accept friend requests unless we've interacted before or without an adhered message.
Favorites are anime or manga rated a 9 or 10 and the best entry on their respective franchises.
I also use a rating system apart from the main one that MAL offers, which is based on low, medium, solid and high scores. This applies on every score except for 1s and 10s, which are absolute scores.
Oh yeah I played DBH and know exactly what you mean, overly preachy and with a sort of forced idea that pacifism will fix all problems..with DBH in particular what infuriates me the most is how it portrays the media. Irl media doesn't care if something is pacifist they will portray it as being not regardless
Yeah I felt the same way. The show felt shallow, with rushed exploration of its themes in a way that is irresponsible given the topic it chose.
It reminds me of how modern day propaganda in america likes to whitewash people such as MLK Jr in order to create some faux idea of what fighting for equality is like as a distraction. then, at the same time trying to undermine the ideals MLK Jr dedicated his life to
I agree with your review wholeheartedly. I think even the examples where 86 did try and address propaganda in scenes such as that classroom scene it always was butchered though. The Mary Sue MC is able to preach a contradictory message in the room while a MP officer is present and nothing happens to her.... If this were depicting a real life authoritarian regime she would have been executed. The result makes the viewer feel safe and comfortable.
Because of that I just couldn't take it seriously at all. It was a slog as you said, very hard to watch because of how awfuly it handled topics.
And yeah that CGI looked awful as well. The mechs stuck out like a sore thumb... I really get annoyed when studios will use CGI on something in the forefront of the scene because since it attracts the eyes to it it just becomes so much more noticeable.
82.7% affinity is actually insane this is the highest affinity I've ever had with a person
But considering we see eye to eye on monogatari, evangelion, lain, bocchi, frieren, one piece and ttgl (you are also a hxh and steins;gate enjoyer) i guess i'm not too surprised
Although i wonder why you have Homura on your fav characters list on anilist despite not watching her series yet, but I guess that is not too crazy. There are some characters I like in anime despite not watching their series yet (Maka from Soul Eater and Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho come to mind)
At first, when reading that Gurren review before watching, I was simply laughing at how hate filled the review was but I actually understand now. I actually dislike Kamina and also the way the female characters are represented. I also dislike the oddly juvenile/corny humor. The "believe in the me who believes in you who believes in me" thing is so ridiculous I can't take it serious.
Really like it so far, though given its subject matter, it's not something I'd recommend before watching it in full. I think one unique thing it does is to add a motive for the bully, so you kinda empathise with her. And the good guys, despite being good at heart, are also cowards who are too scared to intervene, so that's intriguing as well.
thx! And yeah, kinda pointless to discuss gender identity with a TERF. I'll have to check out your Gurren Lagann review, tho I'll have to put aside time for it seeing how colossal it is lmao.
He did hehe. But more importantly, the show brought in a lot of great characters. So I guess I became less concerned about Manji's pseudo-overpoweredness.
Back to your gurren lagann interview, what really irritates me is that the fans (as well as EVA and Code Geass fans) praise the show to high heavens, while unfairly maligning other shows of the same genre (mecha). They don’t even give them a chance, they just say they’re bad and boring and icky, on top of not respecting the shows that these series took inspiration from.

That show is indeed, absolutely dogshit

I remember reading your Lagann review a while ago, and it was based. Btw, I guess you might like Kasane: https://xss.now.cc/manga/55377/Kasane
