A numeric value is assigned to people, deciding their career path and options, often disregarding their own choices - this is the obvious similarity between the shows, yet not the only one.
We see a society fully subscribed to a system that, despite being very candy-colored in one of the shows is no less dystopic. People dragged out of their lives' path dictated by the system. Corporate corruption exploiting it for their own goals. A big conspiracy.
And a single ominous guy playing the game without submitting to the rules entirely, trying to fight for self-determination.
