The animation is fluid, the music decent, but the character design is not as striking. It has a large cast, but most of the characters don't get a narrative arc. The plot hints at a wider conflict, which might have some heavy emotional beats. The stakes in the story are not properly handled, and this makes the struggles of the characters not really immersive. The setting is generic, and the plot lacks direction and focus.
The opening arc shows some promise, but the arc transitions are not interesting. The comedy is too obvious which hurts the story. The story feels like it has the wrong tone. But it might just be because what we have had thus far is a set up. 5 episodes in, I have the impression this anime will just get worse. There are just too many similar stories, and the studio has not found a way to make this one unique or compelling.

Now the title does indicate things are "carefree" but there are indeed ways of making a story compelling without wild stakes. Conflict makes the story; and the conflicts here are underbaked.
